I have some problems with this -blam!- theory.

1) Bungie isn't being run by crackheads.

2) Limited draw distance so what, your still going to have huge maps. Imagine taking The original Sidewinder and multiplying that by 8. Then you'll probably be looking at the bare minimum amount of space needed for a 256v256 game.

3) How old are you, 10? Bigger doesn't mean better and THIS IS NOT A WORTHWHILE EXPERIMENT. Doing something as stupid as that could quite possibly RUIN BUNGIE. The amount of time work and money to do something like that would have little impact on the industry and bankrupt Bungie

4) That still wouldn't work because you'll still need a host to sort it all out and there's no way in hell a 360 will be able to handle all of that data.

5) The MAG idea could work, but your still going to have problems with lag. Why? Some people aren't going to be able to output/input the data fast enough. In one hour of H3 you'll use ~100MB of bandwidth. That's assuming your doing 4v4s. Now imagine that your doing 256v256. That's one hell of a difference. Too be generic and stupid i'm going to just go about it the logical route. According to my calculations you'll transmit at a rate of 1.7MBPs. That 1,700 KiloBytes Per Second. Not too many people have a connection with a download speed above that so not too many people will be able to play.

6) Graphical limitations means NO -blam!- CHANCE IN HELL UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE LOOKING AT 8 BIT GRAPHICS.

At this present time this sort of thing won't be happening. Ten year olds and ass hats need to stop dreaming and face the facts.

IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN ANY TIME SOON WITHOUT SOME MAJOR CHANGES.

In fact I'm 18. And my brain is not limited to think games will stay teh same always. I think on how to revolutionize games. That's not immature.

Fallout 3 has a huge area but the 360 can't handle it as well as a PC or PS3 can.
Actually the 360 runs Fallout better than the PS3.

And the 360 can also handle FUEL. You know, the game with an area of 5,000 square miles, AKA the biggest game in to date.

Yeah, I think he big battlefields are bot such as a concern.

Halo Reach if anything should be 32 and stop right there but with deticated servers. Its bungies last Halo game why not make it the best it can be, they created file shares, file forums, stat tracking, then video rendering i dont see why D-servers are so "out of the question"

Bungie said they were out of question? They made millions with the halo trilogy and they dont wanna give Reach the approppiate multiplyaer it deserves?

That sucks.

But however I wonder if dedicated servers would be enough to support 512 players.

I'd pay a monthly or annual fee to play this.

16 player online FTW. Seriously, individual skill still matters but the battles are a decent size. -blam!- anything more and -blam!- anything less.

I am a penguin. Every day I boogie on down to the water, and eat fish. Once, while fishing in the deepest depths, I saw great Cthulhu... And he said to me "Shine, to thine own self be true. They can't tell you what to do once you've gone guru." Also, I should tell you, "slide".

What about this for a Multiplayer mode in Halo Reach.

Isn't it a dream for everyone playing with A LOT of players in a LOTR-sized battlefield.

I mean, like a real war.

I don't know if you've ever played a Halo game... But they don't do that sort of thing... and they don't exactly shoot for realism, which makes sense, seeing as it's a sci-fi game that centers mire around the player, and less around military tactics.

Not to mention, consider how long it takes to find a match of 5v5 or 8v8.

Now try to find a match of 256v256.

Exactly, also it would be red bar for everyone. Good idea but won't work.

MAG only has such a large pvp multiplayer because it is only a multiplayer game and the PS3 can handle having that big of an area.

Fallout 3 has a huge area but the 360 can't handle it as well as a PC or PS3 can.

I doubt that we will get anything bigger than the usual 8v8.

It could at least go as high as maybe 12 vs 12.

  • 07.29.2009 10:36 PM PDT

(sigh)

Nobody seems to understand the difference between the ps3 graphics and the xbox 360 graphics. Xbox 360 has 512 RAM, and the ps3 has 252 for system and 252 for gaming or something (512 total). With the cell processors it gets a little complicated, but they are both very similar in capabilities. I bet the 360 could probably play MAG and play it pretty damn well.

It is really the servers, and the connections of the players that matter. Since there is always at least one dirty lagger, the game will lag like hell if there is more than like 20v20, which would actually be very satisfying.

Also the average player on xbox live is a complete idiot who fails miserable to work with with his teammates. The multiplayer should not get to the point where I cant ditch my uncooperative team and go pwn.

The maps would also have to be designed to not degenerate into total mayhem by the 40 players shooting each other in the face.

Ohai, I'm Loscocco (pronounced Loss-cocoa). I'm a college student (computer science major), 3D animator, and long-time Halo player.

Honestly- anything bigger than 20v20 would probably lag games- or the graphics and weapons couldnt be detailed or there couldnt be many weapons because it would overload everything.

I would be happy with a 12v12 though
