Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Tribes 2 could do 256 people on DSL.

If they actually tried they could pull it off.

Clearly because the desktop uses a 3 prong plug and a laptop uses a 2 prong plug, the microwave will fill your car with tostitos better

Throwing larger numbers at something doesn't make it better.

Don't like a playlist? MOAR PLAYERS IN A GAME
Don't like the current weapons? ADD MOAR WEAPONS

The funny thing is, playlist data supports this. Read here to see about how SBTB and Squad Battle are middle of the road when it comes to playlist population. Squad Battle has the lowest population out of any ranked playlist. Compared together with all ranked and social playlists, they do average at best.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

No.

We wouldn't be able to have this as something fun.

MAG is for the Playstation 3, not Xbox 360

Actually MAG won't lag as much as you think... Every game is hosted by the developer or publisher(i don't know which one) on their servers. The main reason for lag as we know it is because games have a connection host. (halo does, COD does, pretty much every fps does). Mag eliminates the connection host by making every game hosted on their own servers(open NAT most likely that way no one has trouble joining.)

So lag is basically a problem with connecting to someone else's connection...

I for one think a halo game with a massive amount of players or AI's on each team would be pretty badass.

I wanted a gumball so I said "Yo devil you got change for a soul?"Satan appeared and said "Yeah, yeah mosuckra! I got yo change right here just sign this contract and I'll give you your quarters!" So I signed it, lost my soul, and got 4 quarters. I have never regretted this decision.

I make coups, they are fun to make. Want me to make you one? Just ask I'll see what I can do.

Hear hear! Sure 16 player matches are fun, but the more the merrier as they say.

The 360 needs to be upgraded in terms of hardware in order to run that amount of players efficiently. Not only that, but the server infrastructure would probably take more time to perfect than the actual game itself. ARMA 2 has 2000 player AI matches (not online, people) and its tough to even push out efficient 30 FPS without lagging your pants off.

The server infrastructure right now IS the Xbox. That is why it can't handle more than 16 people. It is running off of just one CPU. If you use actual servers to do the calculations, then the game could handle it. However, the lag is mostly due to slow internet connections when playing online. You would have to fix both problems. Having a real server host AND upgrading internet across the entire world. Good luck with that. MAG is an ambitious game that will result in failure. The internet framework would need to be almost entirely Fiber-Optic in order for a game of that magnitude to work.

MAG

MAG is not 256 vs 256.

It's just 256. Maybe 128 vs 128.

Here, we're talking about MSFT's competition big time.
Played MAG at e3 due to the ammount of people there was no organization and it failed, if you times that # by 2 it will be even more of a horrible cluster -blam!-. It wont work.

I'm more than okay with that.

How about this. Halo: Reach, remains a Halo game.

A wild Snorlax appears. The ultraballs. Do you throw them?

Man, I can't believe I missed this thread in its prime. So DUST 514 is a console MMOFPS for the 360 and PS3.

So oh well, I will just have to leave you with this and this

and I lol at this

and there's a game called Planetside, which is a 6 year old FPS that supports 133v133v133 (100% PvP) battles with no lag. MAG is being made by some of the people who originally made Planetside.

Dedicated servers all right, you would think bungie would have them seeing as weve given them a huge community for years, its the most popular XBL multiplayer game and they could obviously afford it.

  • 10.16.2009 3:43 PM PDT

Maybe in another 50 years and 4 more xbox permutations, we might see something like 500 people in a single game. It would take alot of processing power, and a more advanced network of internet connections than is widely availible.

I do see it happening, but by then we might also be playing Halo with someone on the moon lol.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

I do not enjoy lag.

Iam enjoying Halo Reach and revisiting some past Bungie games, iam a big fan of Bungie and their online community.

It would be cool but there would have to be some pretty solid servers.
