Thanks for posting those videos, Cryptic.

IMO, Legends is going to kill the Halo franchise. I thought it was an April Fool's Joke at first and then I realized...oh -blam!- it's July...

Even if it does flop, which I doubt it will, it won't affect the games or book sales IMO. They are just too well established.

Agreed. I just hope they don't kill "Halo" by making Halo trading cards.... Oh wait....

NOOO! -blam!-

Hi. My name is Sean. I've been a Bungie fan since Halo launched. Some of my interests include games, exercising, laser tag, martial arts, movies, music, sports, and technology. Feel free to contact me at any time.

I'm not trying to blog or violate the forum rules, so there's no need for conflict. I just want to share my experience with those who couldn't make it. Comic-Con this year was much more packed then last year. The line to get in seemed like a few miles; they kept sending us in circles. While waiting to enter the convention center, I saw a huge MNU truck with an agent patrolling the street. This is to advertise the movie District 9, which will be in theaters on August 14th.

"Halo 3: ODST" Gameplay Demo - Crater, Interview with SketchFactor, Security Zone

After waiting a little over one hour, I was able to make my way over to the Xbox booth, #5225. Microsoft representatives as well as Bungie employees were monitoring the huge crowd of people. Major Nelson stopped by quite a few times. The Halo 3: ODST Demo was available to the public from 9:00 AM until 3:30 PM. There was a line until other booths started to complain. So, fans just gathered around and eventually got a chance to play a ten minute game of the co-op mode, also known as Firefight.

There was a mini stage on the left side, which had a table, two chairs, and a television with speakers. On the table were some goodies, including Bungie hacky sacks and Halo 3: ODST pins. They were given out at random to those who were in line when they shut down the demo. The Xbox ladies were also giving out Xbox LIVE key chains, Halo 3: ODST control scheme cards,"48 Hour" gold subscriptions, and Halo Encyclopedia cards.

Created in full collaboration with Microsoft, the Halo Encyclopedia (coming soon) is paced with hundreds of images, illustrations, and technical drawings that highlight all the information fans and newcomers to the Halo universe need to know. A comprehensive guide to one of the most successful video game franchises in history, the Halo Encyclopedia details the origins of the game along with the key characters, weapons, vehicles, equipment and locations from Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo Wars.

There were six televisions mounted against the wall on the right side, where you can see people wearing headsets (participants). The four nearest to the front were one Firefight game. The two farther back were part of another Firefight game with the bigger television on stage, which was split-screen. While in line, the middle of the booth, you could watch any of the screens. The split screen from the TV on stage was also displayed on two other televisions.

The two levels played for the duration were called Crater and Security Zone. The Battle Rifle is not included. Dual wielding is not an option. You do have two new weapons though... a silenced M7 Submachine Gun and M6C/SOCOM Automag Pistol. Players had unlimited lives. In the final game, however, your team will share seven lives with no time limitation. Obviously, there will be more information regarding ODST when it becomes closer to launch.

Nice highlights, Cryptic. I wish I could've gone, but lack of care called me to my gaming chair.

Deserved bump.

Thank you.

Wassup?

In the first Halo Legends pic that PsychoTEX posted, you can see that they effed up the Mark VI shoulder. I'm sorry, I just had to point that out.

A 48 minute video? Wow, I just wish it wasn't so blurry.

Charge...BACKWARDS!

Neat.

And, to be honest, I am not excited or looking forward to Halo: Legends.

Your team gets a total of 7 lives from each person. But these lives are spread around your entire team. So if you have 3 players, your team has a total of 21 lives to use. Once any player dies, the total number of lives left drops by one on everyone's screen. So despite each player only bringing 7 lives to the table, a player can die more than 7 times, theoretically. Once all 21 lives have been expended, the game ends.

Additional lives are added after each set I believe (or round, cant remember which one precisely).

So to recap
1 player: 7 lives
2 players: share 14 lives
3 players: share 21 lives
4 players: share 28 lives

Sweet.

Sounds (and looks) like it was a lot of fun.

I was expecting your Post Carnage Report picture to be of you pointing a gun at the Bungie employees and demanding a copy of ODST.

Damn.

Looks like I made it in the background of a couple of your fan pics. Way against the wall with the blue hat, waiting in line to play on stage.

Im pretty sure Alex isn't a producer. He's a Microsoft guy, and most likely just does a PR kinda thing. He was nice though, and knew his ODST.

I wish I had gotten an ODST pin, thats really the only thing I missed out on. I didnt even see them! Oh well, I did get some cool goodies.

I also made an appearance in yesterday's Weekly Update on stage with Paul. Pretty cool stuff. I was honored.

That's awesome man. I wish I knew who you were so I could have gotten a picture with a fellow member. I talked to Alex and he told me he was, in fact, the producer of Halo 3: ODST. He said has been at Bungie and Microsoft Gaming Studios for some time now, working on various projects. I was lucky to get the ODST pins; they didn't have that many to give out. We both made it into the weekly update and I agree, pretty cool stuff.

:-)

Thanks, Cryptic.

EDIT: Dang it, I want a Bungie hackysack!

NP. Paul Bertone was going to give me a Bungie hacky sack, but I asked if I could have the Halo 3: ODST pins instead. There were a lot more hacky sacks and I'm sure they'll be giving them out at the Penny Arcade Expo in September.

There's no link to the Q&A anymore?

The Q&A is a part of the Halo: Legends video, which can be seen here. Unfortunately, I had to create another topic for the panel in the Universe forum.

Has it already passed?

I'm not quite sure what you're referring to, but the San Diego Comic-Con event is over. I'm pretty sure Halo: Legends and Halo 3: ODST will be shown at PAX this year.

thought we got 7 lives owell

In the final version, your team will share 7 lives multiplied by the number of players. So for example, if you went into a Firefight game with three players, your team would share a total of twenty-one lives. There are five waves of covenant and unlimited time. So, if your team survives, a new round starts and you get your lives back. Of course, as the game progresses, more skulls are activated and it becomes much more challenging.

The video quality is much better on the original file. I think the compression, when uploading to Vimeo, made it a lot worse. :-/

I don't think I'll be needing the polar bear, but I do appreciate everyone's kind remarks. I updated the thread and added a paragraph that was on the Halo: Encyclopedia cards they were giving out.
