Chunky_Lover's Average Joe Interview

Bungie All Star Contest Winner Weeks 6,8 and 12

Through the evolution between Halo 2 and Halo 3, Elites slowly began to slunch over and become less like brutal aliens and more like cute little dinos.

I think for Halo: Reach, Bungie should make Elites stand upright more to give the appearance of menacing enemies, kind of like in Halo: Combat Evolved.

Elite (Halo Combat Evolved)

Elite (Halo 3)

Not to say the both aren't scary looking in their own way, its just that the hunched over style of Halo 3's Elite doesen't look admirable enough to be a truly scary and menacing foe.

Elite (Halo Wars)

In the CG Cutscenes for Halo Wars, they did a wonderful job of capturing the Elites raw indimidatory presence, that I would love to see become a reality in Halo Reach.

Halo 2 was unbalnced because of the Elite's larger bodies.
Halo 3 fixed that making them Hunched.

I am aware of this, I am talking about in Campaign, being a different MP model shouldn't have a direct effect with how they look in the Single Player.

I agree, Elites should look like their Halo wars or Halo CE versions.

There's nothing wrong with ten feet!

I agree. Stand straight up in SP, and hunched over in MP (or even just scaled down like RAAM and Skorge in GoW's MP, so they don't look all silly and hunched)

I am flatterd that you botherd to look at my signature.

maybe elites decided to haunch more so they would be smaller targets..watch halo3's cenimatics they will stand tall like they used to

I know, but that isn't the point either, I mean during playable gameplay.

I dislike how the Elites are becoming too hunch-backed. They should be like they looked in Halo 2 with better graphics. I know that they had added armor in Halo 3 so that they were forced to be more hunched, but I think that making them look more upright makes theme look more intelligent and less underdeveloped.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

Sure. I can see this, but I also want to emphasize how much I want the multiplayer models balanced.

There are those who said this day would never come, what a day to say now.

i agree.

and by doing that all the ''elite hate'' would be gone because all the AR-hating ''BR-pro's''
cant hit the elites from behind.
(i do love the weapon but only because its @#¿!-$ overpowered)

the only problem that that would bring is that they are a lot taller.
or how about making them squat a little and shrinking them down 5% =3

and talking about elites (and AR's)

i can never forget my favourite halo moment.

rushing towards a mighty zealot who shouted; wort! wort! wort! and pulled out his sword right when I unleashed hell with my mighty 60-round assault rifle.

---- reach xD.
just take halo:CE and put it online

Multiplayer, would stay the same, because it would be difficult to compensate the hieght of the non-slouched Elite without making it look smaller in stature.

I was talking about strictly campaign, as of right now, we don't even know if Elites are playable in Multiplayer, but if they are, then in multiplayer they would be balanced.

Wow I never really realized how bad elites looked in Halo 3. I hope the elites look like the one's in Halo wars for Reach as well. OP: Good thread.

I hope the lean H1 Elites come back, or even the H2 style ones. They just looked more like strong agile warriors, not overweight bulky meatheads like in H3 and not the weird disproportioned top heavy weirdos in Halo Wars.

Actually, one of the most memorable moments I had encountered in Halo 2, is when the Elites rebel against the Covenant, and how amazing and bad ass they looked killing the Brutes.

I still remember the dread of seeing the Gold Zealots on H1 Legendary and thinking "Oh boy". Such good tough smart enemies. One of my most favourite Halo memories of all time is a Gold Sword Zealot jumping of a bridge on Two Betrayals to swipe at me in my Banshee, killing me and then falling to its death. That wasn't so smart I suppose.

The H2 Elites were pretty cool though, still quite lean.

"Were it so easy...."

-Thel'Vadam aka. the Arbiter-

I agree that elites should be different, more agile-like. I understand if brutes are heavy and very muscular but it doesnt fit elites.
And now that I think of it, they do look like pretty bulky in halo 3... :(

In Halo CE, elites looked great when they held their heads up high, however, that made their heads an easy target to snipe, never the less, they looked proud.

Halo 2 Was actually a bit of the same, a little hunched I guess, but they still retain their proud battle posture, but they don't hold their heads up high as they used to.

Halo 3 They can fight well in multiplayer, and thats all they have that's positive in halo 3 IMO.

Anyway, i'd prefer the halo ce or halo 2 elite posture anyday for campaign, for multiplayer, just them down so they don't have to be so hunch backed.

Voilà!In view,a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity,is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin van-guarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition.

Actually they weren't, that was mere speculation. They were hunched in halo 2 as well if you don't remember. But indeed, the hunching was to make the hitboxes the same for multiplayer, if they didn't hunch we'd have another oddjob and jaws issue like in goldeneye. If they'd stand up tall, it'd only work in SP - maybe in LAN games when recording for machinema.

$.50 in store credit.

I dont like the HW elites. they look too bulky. The CE ones would be better for campaign because they are more intimidating, and for MP i think it would be cooler if they were scaled down a bit.

  • 08.06.2009 9:35 AM PDT

I used to have 30s in Halo 2 untill they reset the ranks :(

Maybe they should go see a Chiropractor.

I don't see how raising their shoulders and getting rid of the hunch slightly would make them prone to Snipers. Brutes stand upright and have larger heads/headress' , So I don't see this being a huge issue in terms of single player experience.

  • 08.06.2009 10:29 AM PDT

Signatures are for squares.

Oh hey Chunky.

I do agree, the Elites in Halo CE and even Halo 2, was much more fearsome, it seems that in Halo 3 they decided that they all wanted to make the hunchback of notre dame their idol since Truth was gone.
