Subject: Check this out: Did Bungie let the end of ODST slip on a Podcast???

So, I just recently downloaded all the Bungie Podcasts, and have been listening to them in reverse order, when I found this:
During the episode from Oct 31/2008, at about 22 minutes in, Brian, Luke, and Shishka are talking about games they are currently playing. They get on to the topic of Deadspace, and who would win in a fight: the deadspace necro-morphs or the Flood. Brian then starts talking about how it would depend on what type of Flood was in the fight. Brian then says:

"don't forget the Gravemind, too. I don't want to spoil anything, but, (there) could be a boss battle there, Gravemind versus..."

at this point Luke kind of cuts Brian off with a very akward sounding "oooookaaay! whoa! We're treading in dangerouse ground" and then changes the subject.
Thoughts?

BTW, dead space came out way after halo 3 so no.

J-H

Or maybe they didn't want to start an e-war between Halo fans and Dead Space fans? Imagine the endless comments of "No! Halo is better!" "Nuh-uh! Dead Space! Necromorphs would PwN!" "Flood would whipe the floor with necros, you noob" and so on, and so on.

You don't mess with the best,
and the best don't mess with the rest.

I think it might be about Reach, or a joke.

They may have done it on purpose, or maybe it was a genuine slip of the tongue. But, regardless, it can't be too terribly large of a spoiler or else they would have edited it out. These aren't live obviously.

I don't think that relates to ODST in the least bit.

  • 07.27.2009 9:36 PM PDT

It is DEFINITLY long after Halo 3, and I would have thought nothing of the comment other than the fact that Brian says "I don't want to spoil anything..." I couldn't believe it either, but I don't know what else it could be in reference to. I don't have a link to a clip, but the time mark I gave is accurate. I have the podcast on my IPod in front of me. The topic starts about 22 minutes in. The quote i mentioned above comes at 22 minutes, 50 seconds. Like I said, it is the episode dated Oct 31, 2008 (not the 'Lost Episode" that was recorded earlier, but the actual episode from that date)

well still if it was important they would have just edited it out.

An Infection form could just infect a Necromorph. Then you would have a goopy ugly monster. The Hive Mind is a lot bigger than the Gravemind though... I think. Anyway, I would not mind a Gravemind fight, just not in ODST.

The other thing that occured to me is that it might have nothing to do with the ODST Campaign, but could there be some kind of "boss round" in Firefight mode?

I am the Prophet of Tree's
fear me.

they are just messing with you. apparently it worked

Sort of.
There are certain Rounds with 3, yes 3, Brute Chieftains wielding their trusty gravity hammers.

I would not mind a boss round actually. Imagine being swarmed by the Heretic Leader, Tartarus, the Prophet of Regret, and the Gravemind all at the same time... You would die so fast.

It could be. But I have gone back and listened to every single podcast in the past 2 weeks, and not once did they ever "mess" with the listeners in a way that wasn't completely obviouse. The only other moment with the same kind of akward pause was way back before Halo 3 came out, when one of them accidently mentions something about 'playing a campaign level with 3 other guys in the office' before 4-player co-op had been announced. They vaguley let that slip, and didn't edit it out either.

Yes, IT DID HAPPEN. Bungie has a link to the Podcast right here on their website. Go click it yourself. It takes about a minute to download the entire episode, and fastforward to the time I listed. I alread scanned throught the entire episode to find the quote and give you the time mark. I'm not busting out my music software to edit a clip for you because you're too lazy to check it out yourself.

"Bam said the Lay-day!" - Nathan Fillion

I think I can vaguely remember that podcast, i don't know, too long ago, but I do believe you. Well the quote but not the leak to the ending part.

Mythical Group

There is no greater catharsis than arguing on the Flood.

Maybe Brian was referring to whatever the Gravemind would fight. I didn't play Deadspace, but I'm sure there's bosses in there that are creepy monster things.

  • 07.27.2009 10:04 PM PDT

That's possible too, but they've never been shy about discussing things that happen in other, previously released games before.

Or some crazy joke that they started around the office, who knows, this is bungie we are talking about!

They were talking about the Gravemind like final boss in Dead Space. They were cut off because they didn't want to spoil that.
