Subject: Reach needs to be the end... Bungie.... To the lifeboats!

You know, if they were handing of the ip to someone like activision, yea, it'd be over.

But really, you've got a team with some highly skilled employees over at 343. They can potentially make a very good game.

And you know, halo wars wasn't bad, it was actually pretty good, just not bungie quality.

yeah, I actually really liked halo wars! it offered a deeper look into the whole halo plot!

  • 07.28.2009 6:00 PM PDT

It is my latest cultural research project! By randomly saying LOLWIN to semi-funny replies on the Halo 3 forum, I hypothesize that a temperary self-esteem boost will be present.

And once they read this, they will be a little worse off than before.

Yeah, I believe most think Halo Wars is a good game.

Not many people really hate Halo Wars. It is a really good RTS game IMHO, and it actually requires strategy to win.
(And it had awesome cutscenes)

I think reach should be the end of the (Halo) franchise, but the universe should keep being expanded.

I agree, Halo Wars wasn't a bad game, it wasn't like Halo 3 or Halo CE but it's not a bad game at all. Halo Franchise is the best and even when they have their ups and downs, still the Halo Franchise is too strong now to sink just like that.

Check out my Gaming Rig on EVGA Mod Rigs.

There are many points here that I can agree with. But I for one think that Bungie has a good chance to hold their place as the best game developer on the planet with the release of Halo: Reach. I have been playing Halo since the Xbox 1 shipped with the Halo: Combat Evolved. Halo 2 was definitely a stumble for them because they simply did not have enough time to complete the master piece it should have been.

Enter Halo 3 - many new weapons / armor / vehicles / Forge / and the list goes on. But here Bungie got it right, sure the story was short but still arguably the best title for Xbox 360.
Seeing how they regained so much ground after the H2 stumble in H3, I am completely excited to play another new Halo game from Bungie.

I have never played ONI (because I don't play games for Playstation) so I can not comment on this but I would gladly pay for it and play it if it came out for xbox 360 / natal / PC for one reason only - BUNGIE

As for the titanic metaphor, I do not feel that it is right to compare Halo Wars to any of the Halo games made by Bungie. I will not personally buy or play Halo Wars because even though Bungie had a part in the game, it's not their game and I would rather not have the same opinion as the OP in this matter.

It seems entirely likely that they will continue making great games, but they have already said that without M$ they will be able to produce a new IP (or possibly bring one back i.e. Marathon / ONI) so I would not consider their fate so predetermined.

And to sgtpickle777-

I rather hope that M$ doesn't drag Halo down the -blam-er but I'm not sure I agree with your CoD4 statement, WWII games are so played out after countless no name games (Including Call of Duty) that tried to capitalize on the genre at the time. CoD4 was the breath of fresh air the series needed to become a giant near (or larger) than the Halo monster. WaW was a mediocre game at best and only looked that good because it was built off the MW engine.

Yes, as soon as Bungie stops with Halo games Halo will go down the drain.
Sad, because that is two of my favorite series that I am losing interest in.
After Reach, I don't expect myself to buy another Halo title.
Modern Warfare ruined CoD for me. I was glad about WaW, but it doesn't match up to CoD 3.

The Anime has NOTHING, to do with Bungie making another halo game. there just trying to expand the halo universe, let them do what they want to do, sure halo wars suked, but that doesnt mean we have to close up the universe. there can be T.V. shows/books/movies/games/toys about the same thing, no one cares about Lucas arts and Star Wars, there not beating a dead horse, there just reviving it.

I think the Halo anime will be freakin awesome! Screw live action I'd much rather see this done in killer anime / 3d animation. I love the Halo books and this is just another great way for us to see the game come to life in different ways

And for the Halo Wars discussion - Maybe if others did what I did and thought twice about buying a "Halo" game done by another game dev they wouldn't have been disappointed in the series.

halo wars was bad

Halo wars wasn't a bad game but it wasnt the best RTS ever made either. It was a step in the right direction for console RTS. It made the controls easy for everyone. Halo Wars has alot of potential.

It HAD alot of potential, but it failed. they sacraficed game play, storyline, and music for control scheme and that is why they failed.

The Halo franchise started going downhill (in terms of gameplay and story only) in Halo 2 and 3. Hopefully REACH will be closer to the original in its gameplay formula and meaningful story.

what like a roller coaster? it goes down then up then falls off the rails, crashes and burns then the only survivor is mugged and killed?

  • 07.28.2009 7:01 PM PDT

and then the survivors tell about it, movies are made, souvenirs, museums.
Halo becomes a name everyone would know. Becoming the most famous vessel known to man

Yes, I think this game should be the final voyage, at least for now.

Is it just me or did Bungie not say that they would be done with Halo after the trilogy was complete?

And thats what leads me to doubt That REACH will be the last bungie halo game....

...Love, love is a blind man's game, you have to look around to know where you are...

actually Halo Reach is the end of Halo Bungie may be doing a new IP now or maybe later, but Reach is gonna be the last.

BOOM Headshot!

this was very off topic, I love Halo and would hate to see it sink. I know halo is running low on options, but halo is everlasting. i want it to be like mario (continuing for almost 30 years now). But if they do make a non halo related game, it better be sweet!

(ps: love your metaphors)

halo wars wasnt even approved by bungie ensamble studios created microsoft techniqly owns al game franchises like halo bungie just makes halo and its awesome features so techniqly your metaphore as the titanic being bungie is completely incorrect and thus your statement is the opposite bungie is still going strong as long as it has the name bungie and halo its bound to be a good game if it dosent have bungie on a halo title its crud and it isnt worth its wheight in dirt

This was a rant against MICROSOFT not bungie, I am aware that ensemble made halo wars... and i was simply stating that if microsoft keeps oversaturating the Halo franchise bungie will be left in a tight spot.

And IN THE VERY FIRST LINE i state that i view HALO, not bungie, but HALO as the titanic....

I totally agree with you 2. Except srgnt pickle777 cause i had no care for Cod at all. I think of Cod being a jetpack trying to fly higher than halo. It didnt do 2 good at first but modwar was like there missing engine that immetiately made it sour into the sky. WaW was like the nitro fuel that kept it going. And now CoD6 is an advanced engine that might take out halo (MIGHT...)

  • 07.28.2009 9:09 PM PDT

Were it so easy.

Halo Wars' cinematics were awesome. But the gameplay sucks.

  • 07.28.2009 9:38 PM PDT

Halo is going to die after Reach since it is the last Halo game by Bungie so I expect Bungie to put all they can into making Reach the best Halo game ever to be released thus making any game Microsoft makes in the Halo universe a complete joke.

You know technically, technically means nothing in this context. And techniqly doesn't mean anything under any circumstances.

But to address the topic I don't think Bungie will suffer too much from Microsoft's inevitable infatuation of the Halo franchise. And I don't believe they'll continue making Halo games. If I were Bungie, I wouldn't even touch it after Reach. Microsoft's already made an anime, next it'll be Halo -blam!-. I'm actually quite excited to see what's next for Bungie Halo is amazing but they've been on it for ten years now I want to see a whole new universe crafted by those geniuses.
