Subject: Reach needs to be the end... Bungie.... To the lifeboats!

So, Ive always seen the halo franchise as the titanic... An amazing ship, vast, open to exploration, with many features, and a good multipassenger experience...

Halo 1 was the launch of the ship, when all of its luxuries were put on board.
Halo 2 was the passenger boarding the ship and experience its social cabin and swimming pool (xbl)
and Halo 3 was the luxurious trip full of amenities (forge, theater) and luxury.

I think we all knew what happened to the titanic next.... It SANK.

Halo wars was the Iceberg....

Because of it bungie is in a tight spot.
It either lets microsoft let other game developers do a half-baked version of halo and make a mockery of Bungie's hard earned franchise, Or it forces itself to pick up the slack.

Right now, Bungie is the band onboard the titanic, cranking out songs to calm the passengers down, These songs may be masterpieces named ODST and REACH. But they cant help keep the boat affloat.... eventually the Halo bubble will pop. And Bungie needs to find plan B.... NOW.

Many feel that microsoft is beating a dead horse with the halo franchise, sure halo isnt dead... yet....

But wasnt halo 3 advertised as the end of the franchise / trilogy.... Why must microsoft beat out The phantom menace of Halo? ( i mean seriously.... a halo anime, really?)

Eventually Bungie will find itself in a position where they are defined by halo, this must not happen as it will ruin them... they need to branch out and try something different.

Bungie employees seem to have an affinity for fighters, why not make a fighting game? or better yet remake ONI, a mix between a third person shooter and a fighter?

Bungie as a band needs to find the lifeboat or else they will forever be seen as "those guys who made halo" not "that awesome game company whose accomplishments INCLUDE halo among other things"

REACH needs to be the last hurra for bungie halo.... or at least there needs to be another game to help bungie maintain a varied repertoire, You cant just play Bethovens fifth all day and expect tips!

Don't get me wrong, I'm very enthused about the upcoming Bungie titles, i just want something different, an ONI remake?, a third person shooter? a fighter? a racer? Tetris combat evolved?
I dont care what it is, i just hope as a fan of bungie, that it doesn't go down with the titanic, that this great chamber ensemble of a game dev. manages to find that lifeboat and get off the sinking ship to live another day and make great games.

As always i expect nothing but the best, and I'm sure ill get it. But i fear that halo as a franchise is doomed no matter how well bungie makes the next game.

Please don't ever post on forums again if your going to say somthing like that

too bad he's absolutely -blam!-in right. Bungie needs to move on after Halo Reach. enough is enough. if Bungie is so awesome and wants to prove they are one of, if not the best game developer, they HAVE to do something absolutely amazing that ISN'T Halo related. period. end of discussion.

if they can't move on, well, then i don't know what to say, other than they made a few great games, but can't move forward.

  • 07.29.2009 2:00 AM PDT

MC dosent need guns bungie needs to put more knifes in. Nothing like a good ol knife fight

Do not be fooled by my account registration date...

i can see where your coming from, we dont want bungie to end up like rockstar, not being taken seriously any more and release 9 games after san andreas it just begun to suck i mean come on CHINA TOWN WARS?

  • 07.29.2009 2:55 AM PDT

I like burgers. Mmmmmhmmmm..... Jucy ones, none of that garden crap

So that settles it then, bungie should make a game where you do nothing but eat burgers.
(And there would be a forge of course.)

I approve this message.

I just dont want it to turn out like star wars.
plz no LEGO-Halo
One thing I am confused about is microsoft's ownership of halo....
Is the franchise just the story about the rings or dose it cover the whole universe?
Because in halo wars the actual story about the halo rings hardly get's a mentsion.

I comprise a metaphor as well:

I consider Halo as an acclaimed, cohort pet (typically a dog, ferret or cat), who I cherished, constantly since I adopted him/her. However, the instance transpires when this individual cohort you treasured, desires to be euthanized; either if it's initiated by kidney malfunction or cancer, your cherished one is obliged to be positioned to a serene rest. Halo will have its eleven or so years of prospering, prior to it's time to put this beloved pet to an eternal slumber. The Halo franchise is reminiscent of an elderly dog. It's a fine video game companion; however, its existence is approaching a conclusion. Would you preferably oblige the franchise to endure the infirmity and slowly succumb to its departure, or would you desire the franchise to boast the benefit of its grandeur days, prior to its instance to be put to rest. Precluding the franchise from departing for such an extensive period is akin to thwarting an anguished animal from being euthanized, and permitting it to endure agony, until he/she perishes.

I appreciated Halo Wars. I by no means said it was a -blam!- game. I'm solely articulating that the instance will approach when the supremacy of Halo will ultimately draw closer to a conclusion and an infant will surface in its position, merely akin to receiving a novel puppy, ferret, bird, kitten, reptile, or etc.

Uhh halo wars wasn't its sink, Halo Wars was for RTS'ers and apparently you're an FPS person, thats the reason it was horrible because you think different, I prefer FPS over RTS anyday BUT it's for the smart ones, not the shooters.

I see your point, but Halo Wars really does not require a lot of strategy, usually because you'll be screwed because the little kid on your team makes only one unit that the other teams counters because it's so predictable.

For everyone who says Halo Wars was bad, if you have a reason to hate it like you don't like the gameplay and you gave it a far chance, and treat your opinion like it's an opinion and not a fact, good go ahead hate it
BUT
If your one of the people that hate Halo Wars for no reason and not even giving it a chance, and saying your opinion is a FACT, then just shut up.

For everyone that despised Halo Legends from a 2 minute trailer, because of a Samurai Elite(This was before Halo, long before it)and spartan 1337(This is satire poking fun at Halo, and it's non-canon), actually read up on the shorts on the Halopedia or something, I mean some of them sound good only about 2 of them sound bad, but judging it when you don't even know the storyline, and saying it's going to be bad because it's an anime when the only anime most of you have seen was the English dubbed Naruto, you really have no right to say anything bad about it, but if you do AT LEAST make sure your informed.

Thats another way of looking at it

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I think Halo will be fine. Remember Megaman? It lasted 8 games before it started to suck.

w00t w00t

Check out my Gaming Rig on EVGA Mod Rigs.

haha, I'm going to agree with this one but the great thing about Halo is there is so much back story that is not covered in the games. I hope that Reach will provide a great intro to the halo games and hopefully provide some more insight to the MC saga.

and how!

Seeing as you're clever enough to create such colorful metaphors, I would think you'd know that Microsoft has owned the rights to Halo since several months after Halo 3's release. In the contract that sold Halo's IP it gave the rights to creating 2 more Halo games to Bungie Studios, and after that it was all up to Microsoft.

Next, Halo Wars was neither a bad game nor a "mockery" of the Halo franchise. It most certainly did not put Bungie "in a tight spot".
