Subject: Cracking the Postgame Carnage Report

Posted by: DeadliestCarpet
Sorry, I can't hear them over the sounds of Modern Warfare 3 on my Turtle Beaches.

As you may all know, a picture of a Firefight Postgame Carnage Report has surfaced.

I've spent a few minutes analyzing the enemy system and this is how I think how enemies are categorized.

Each Covenant enemy holds either one spot or two spots on the columns.

Brutes are categorized by ranks. In the first row, these are how many Brute Minors you've killed. Next row, is how many Brute Captains you've killed. Next, is how many Chieftains you've killed. If the Gravity Hammer Chieftains and War Chieftains are counted together is unknown but possible. Then comes Jump Pack Brutes.

Enemies are categorized by rank (except for Grunts and Hunters). There are five types of Brutes, three I mentioned earlier but Stalker and Bodyguard are missing. Stalker may fill one of the blank columns but Bodyguard may either be categorized with Captains or not appear.

Jackals are categorized by their position in battle, (shield carrier or sniper). Grunts and Hunters have no special ranking, which may indicate that Heavy Grunts and SpecOps Grunts aren't separate or classified as a typical low-ranking Grunt and Hunters don't have any rank.

Drones - interesting, I have to say, as they have two separate ranks, possibly determined by weapons used? Regular Drones (green) would probably only use Pistols and Needlers. The "New Drone" (red) must use different weaponry, probably the Needler and oddly enough, the Brute Plasma Rifle.

If the report goes like this (from left to right: Brute Minors, Brute Captains, Brute Chieftains, Jump Pack Brutes, Brute Stalkers, Shield Jackals, Jackal Snipers, Grunts, Hunters, Green Drone, and Red Drone), then that will leave one space left.

What goes in here could possibly be Elites, Total Kills, or Brute Bodyguards. Elites at this time generally wear Combat Armor and are classified by armor color. Ranger Elites wouldn't have a high chance of an appearance but Stealth Elties may appear.

Now, I say Elites because of the recent thread concerning the appearance of Elites but their inclusion is unknown. A Total Kill of all enemies could fit nicely and see who did the best, worst, etc.

Post your thoughts below.

As I said earlier, one blank space is a Brute Stalker for sure. The second blank spot is what I'm unsure what it could be.

New Drones sound interesting. But what about Gold Hunters? Remember from the E3 trailer?

And I do hope they bring Elites back.. The more enemy variety the better.

they are gold because of the sunlight

What he is saying is that instead of Stalkers having their own column, they would be put into the same column as Jet Pack Brutes to be "specialized" Brutes. That is how the current Halo 3 Campaign carnage report is.

Bodyguard Brutes are Brutes that protect Chieftains and Prophets, replacement of the Brute Honor Guards from Halo 2.

A full read on what they is right here:

Hope it helps!

I actually have to agree with you on that! But if that's the case, why would the "specialized" Brutes be represented by a Jump Pack Brute's head, why not a different Brute head or something?

That would then leave two blank columns and looking at Halo 3's Campaign Carnage report, one spot could be filled with "specialized" Grunts which don't appear on the picture. The other, as I said earlier is unknown and up to speculation. Could be Elites, who knows?

Another specialized brute could be the one that drive vehicles. And it probably shows as the Jet packs head cus they are the most common.

I do believe that it just goes like this:

Brute Infantry (Minor/Major/Ultra)
Brute Leader (Captain/Captain Major/Captain Ultra)
Brute Chieftain
Brute Specialist (Jumppack/Stalker/Bodyguard)
Jackal Minor (Blue shield)
Jackal Major (Purple shield)
Grunt (It seems they didn't bother splitting the grunts up into minors/majors/specialists)
Hunter
Drone Minor
Drone Major

This is the same way it is broken up in Halo 3, so it makes sense. You can check this here.

Exactly what a drone major is, I'm not sure, but apparently it IS in Halo 3.

As for the blank columns, it does make sense that if they only had 10 enemies, they would only make a table with 10 columns, so there's probably two other kinds - likely vehicles (wraiths, maybe others) and specialist grunts (Fuel Rod grunts, for example). Those are the two most obvious missing entries.

A rampage in FireFight will be 40 kills in a row with no deaths. 20 more than Halo 3 multilayer.

1. nice analysis

2. i have a hard time believing bungie kept elites secret all this time, but you never know

3. i wonder if vehicles will be counted or just the drivers? (oh wait the title says infantry kills, there must be a page of vehicle kills too)

4. halopedia says drones are only capable of holding plasma pistols and needlers, the needler ones are believed to be a higher rank of drones. but it seems odd that grunt ranks are not included, there are minor and major grunts that wield different weapons, also jackals have two (besides sniper) ranks as well (blue, and purple shields)

5. stalkers would fill in one space, and I'm pretty sure war chieftains would be separate from chieftains as their tactics are very different. (although they made it to set 2, you'd expect to run into a war chieftain sometime)

6. maybe the page scrolls over further once you kill more types (some maps may have more than others), you never know

7. man that's a lot of chieftains you need to fight

Unlikely. The three "specialized" Brutes are Stalkers, Jump Pack, and Bodyguard. Also, upon learning how to hijack AA-Wraiths, the pilots appear to be Brute Minors. There's no special pilots in Brute, Grunt, and Elite ranks. For starfighters, there was the Flight Elites, though and possibly specialized Brutes for starfighters, but that's about it.

there is a rank of grunt called a gunner grunt, they are the ones that drive ghosts, and they are a different color (i think green)

yep, they are heavies actually, they use turrets in phantoms ,shade turrets, and sometimes drive ghosts.

One of the columns has to be light vehicles and one of them heavy vehicles.

Or vehicles get just one column.

Yes, those a Heavy Grunts, those are the ones that also use Fuel Rod Guns. Hope those are in there!

Drones are using Brute Plasma Rifles in this video. At 8:14, one is firing red rounds at the player, and at 8:25, player walks over a dead Drone and it says, "Hold RB to Pick Up Plasma Rifle."

This could be our new Drone.

MA5C 7RUTH, I think vehicles would have its own separate page from infantry.

no, vehicles wouldn't be on that page

notice at the top it says "Infantry Kills"

that must mean there is a "Vehicle Kills" page, like they have in campaign already

hm... that's weird...

oh well, i guess that's pretty cool (and scary, don't they shoot fast enough already?)

  • 07.28.2009 2:23 PM PDT

There's also ultra grunts (white grunts). These have even more armor than the heavies.
