Difficulty: Legendary + 6 of the easier skulls.
Role: Covering fire.
In Legendary, I believe the only roles there should be is covering fire, heavy weapons, rapid fire and save. Let me explain each.
Covering fire is the person who distracts an enemy away from someone who is taking heavy damage, so another person can hide. I think that this is a very good strategy, as you can shot a few times, go back into cover, you get an enemy low health and rush a little, but you get hurt a lot, then your cover distracts them and you run into cover. Heavy weapons is the person who gathers all of the powerful weapons and hordes them so when you get into a situation with hard enemies such as hunters and chieftans, you can rely on this guy to take them out. Then there's a save, this is normally only used for campaign. Rapid fire is the guy who gets all weapons that fire fast and hordes them, so when you get enemies such as drones and lots of grunts, this is the person to fall back on. Save is the person who stays back, doesn't usually shoot, and is simply a respawn location for the other plays.
In a Firefight match, you should have 2 people working together covering fire, one rapid fire and one heavy. In 4 player campaign, you should have 2 on covering fire, one save, and one heavy weapons. The less skilled player should be a save, or rapid fire, while the more advanced players should be covering fire. Rapid fire and heavy weapons can be anyone normally, as long as they have a decent aim. I use covering fire as it's what I always do in Halo 3 legendary campaign.
