This is a rant I *sorta* copied from my post in the HaloPlanet forums. Apparently they are dead, so I'm reposting it here to get a little more publicity.

---------------------------------------------------------------

[TITLE] a rant about the worst problem in halo multiplayer, EVER.

It's not the physics. (which are perfect...)

It's not the netcode. (which is good)

It's not even the banshees. (which suck)

It's a player. How can a single player be the worst problem ever? Simple.

He goes on, and starts shooting teammates. When they shoot back, he throws a nade, jumps on it, and dies, which the game reads as a betrayal against the other innocent player. He does this multiple times, and has gotten literally DOZENS of innocent players banned.

He lives in the bungie public servers, which are never admin'd, and lives there for a LONG time, (I've seen him, on the same day, in a server at 10:00am, 2:00pm, 6:00pm, and 12:00midnight. Those were only the times i checked, supposively he was in there continuously...).

His name has inspired others to create fake, mocking names in his honor, not that he goes by a one name all the time, but there IS one name he prefers, (i will reveal the name in due time, calm down...)

Sometimes, he even joins servers named AS good, honorable players, I've seen him as foxroar, ALASKAMIKE, (#1)Valgina, and many others. I know it was him becuase at the end of everything he says, he repeats the last letter to the max say length, filling up every player's screen with his text.

Amazingly, this is not all on his list of amazing talents. He knows about the banlimits, and he abuses it. He will tk a couple guys, exit, and rejoin after a few seconds. This resets the ban count on him, and he resumes tking.

His name, ladies and gentlemen... okay just gentlemen... is ME THE KING, or (ME)=KING, or some other variation of the same name.

So, to recap, he:
1.) Tk's FAR beyond the tk autoban limit.
2.) Gets other innocent players banned.
3.) Joins named as honerable players to hurt their reputation.
4.) Spams the screen making it difficult for others to see.

And he does this ALL THE TIME.

Now maybe you're saying, "why dont you just join a different server?" A large problem with that way of thinking is that it, in effect, lets him win. He WANTS to ruin players' playing experiences, he WANTS players to get sick and leave, and WANTS players to get banned.
Secondly, I live 10 miles from bungie HQ, so I get like 33 ping on those servers.

Now I rather like bungie's no-admin servers, but this kid takes it to another level. Someone NEEDS to step in, becuase I don't like relying on karma to deal out justice, (hopefully by some very deadly, painful disease.) He may have paid $50 for the game, but he does NOT deserve it. You don't get the right to ruin other players' fun just by owning the game. Tking is a problem in halo, granted, but by FAR he has abused the code and taken the problem of tking to another level. Some sort of justice needs to be done here, because his non-stop flagrant abuse of team combat is not just a nuisance, it will ruin a game entirely. Changing to a different bungie public server won't help either, becuase he moves around periodically.

But what can you do? No more halo updates, so the serious gameplay issues here will never be fixed, (as in the tk count resetting if a player leaves then rejoins...) And there will never be admins in the bungie public servers, even to ban this one individual forever.

I love halo, I think it's the funnest game that has come around in a long, long time. It's sad that some individuals like ruining others' fun...

But as I said, what can you do?
Sorry for the long ass post, I just needed to say that.

~[DA] Smo

---------------------------------------------------------------

I figure that I can get hopefully a little more exposure here, and in effect bring together some individuals in an effort to get this kid permanently BANNED for his flagrant abuse of all that is holy and good.

I myself completely Despise TKer's they should all go and burn the occansional Accident is ok but I got a few stories of my own about Tkers...

There was this guy Tig Bitties think about it for a while you will get it. Well anyway I go into a game and start of doing pretty dang well 25 kills in a short period of time when he comes in. He instantly declares himself the Halo God and everyone else is a noob. So to shut him up I killed him a good few times. He was on the other team BTW, so everytime I killed him he called me a noob and made an excuse on how I killed him. My screen then read: Tig Bitties died. I mocked him and then I was suddenly TKed, He had switched teams and hit me while I was typing.

He said Haha Noobzer! I then fired back but I am very avid at the PC version so I just fired until I hurt him a little like half health left and he killed me again. Two TK's I then proceeded to get into his way of fire and grenades and he was dealt with quite quickly.

I guess all I am saying is to get rid of a TKer have them TK you and get in their line of fire as much as you can and run into there nades.

The worst Tk'er I ever saw was when they want to fly the Banshee, tank or whatever. But then 1942 also has Tk'er too when they want to hog the vehicles instead of waiting for their turn, but then there are some people who contribute to the Tk'er like hoggers taking the vehicles all the time.

Hehe, Cool_Cow, that's actually an awesome idea. If you can't beat em, join em. I like the thought of going suicidal to ban a TKer. :D It's just giving them a taste of their own medicine and it's better than getting yourself banned by TKing them back. That's a valuable strategy I'll keep in mind if I ever run across another one. Of course, I imagine it would be fairly difficult to pull off, seeing as how you would have to catch the rat before they quit and rejoined, but it would be something to try at least. Then there's the consideration of how Bungie servers actually ban people. Does it ban by name only? Cd Key? By five minutes? A day? Forever? Anyway, Thanks for the suggestion.

DM Smo, you're wrong about one thing. There is actually hope for a new patch. It's called Halo Custom Edition. I'm sure you've heard of it. It has been said that if the peak players reach 1000 on a regular basis that a new patch will be released. Halo Custom Edition is the only future Halo multiplayer has. Please consider checking it out if you haven't already. :)

problem with your solution is that KING will immediately quit and rejoin after he tks you a couple times. he is VERY aware of the banlimit, and j...u...s...t avoids it to make it so he is NEVER banned. but if you ever shoot him back, he'll throw a nade, jump on it, and bang, the game sees that as you tk'ed him. so in effect, aside from a permanent ban, there is NO SOLUTION TO GET RID OF HIM.

Really, all this is about this one individual, he's the poster-child of tk'ers, far above and beyond anything else i've ever seen.

btw im currently gathering video with FRAPS to capture his actions...

it bans by cd-key, so THATS good, but it's only a 24 hour ban.

also, about halo ce, i have one big problem with it.

on the bungie public servers i get AMAZING ping, (living right next to microsoft hq, redmond, washington.) But on HaloCE there are no massive, excellent ping servers. If bungie put up a public CE server, im there.

Hey, if you live right next to MS, you could walk up and submit a formal complaint in person. You could set up a picket... a protest... a.... nevermind ;)

I hate to say it, but if ping is everything to you, then I guess you're going to have to continue dealing with TKers. :) Have you checked out the server list in CE recently? It's grown appreciably since its inception. I have no way of checking for you, seeing as how I live on the oposite side of the country. If you need further incentive, New Mombasa is going to be released in the coming day or two. :D Have you played any of the new maps? There are some professional-grade maps that have been released recently.

In support of your post here, I've seen numerous postings about this specific "player" on these boards just in the short time that I've been here. Sounds like a serious problem that even Bungie shouldn't be ignoring, no matter how busy they are. It would take all of one minute to ban this guy. Someone could IM one of the employees when KING is causing trouble. I wonder if one of the Mods could pass on a message for you, seeing as how emailing Bungie directly would probably yield nothing at the moment. Goweb, you listening? ;)

well ping isn't EVERYTHING... but if i have the choice between a 10-man server on CE with a ping of 135, or a 16 man on regular halo with a ping of 35, the choice is fairly obvious.

and if bungie, or a mod, whatever, wants to see proof about KING, i got movies, just need to compress and encode them.

And i thought about that with microsoft, the problem is that i wouldn't be able to get close without being "escorted" to the nearest exit, (think, college campus size.) The amount of cameras they have there is amazing. (I did however get to go on a tour with a friend of mine that works there, MSNBC newsroom, datacenter, the works, it was pretty damn cool.)

Your comment about ping makes sense. I can respect that. However, except for Halo CE's infancy, I've never had trouble finding a dedicated server where my ping is at a steady 60-63ms. Heck, on occasion I've even run across a few where I get that nice 33ms ping, although admittedly that is rare. There must be some pretty decent servers out there somewhere for ya. Maybe you should check in every once in a while, seeing as how that's the only way we're ever going to get patched up. :) (hint-hint, nudge-nudge, wink-wink, beg-beg)

As for the MS idea, there's gotta be a visitor's checkin place somewhere. :D That's awesome that you have a connection there in Redmond. Maybe you could use that connection wisely. ;) Oy... it's 1:30. Must sleep before further off-topicness occurs.

You know, I also have problems with TKs. One problem I see so often it's sickening is this. Right before some of the guys/(girls?) are done playing what they will do is go and stick a plasma grenade or in some other way kill their teammate. And you can't retaliate because they leave immediately. Now to be perfectly honest, a couple of times when I was playing with a bunch of complete a$$hole$, I did that myself. I hate being a hypocrite, but there should be some way of putting a stop to this. I never do this anymore, although I've only done it 2 times right when I first got Halo PC, over 4 months ago.

guys i HATE tk'ers but there is one simple solution, join the other team and then whoop his a$$ just get in a bansh or a tank and kill him, besides if he joins the other team wit you, just keep switching teams, eventually he'll get tired of switching and he will just leave (hopefully) oh and cool_cow i think iv met that guy, i HATE him

an update... King is now also going by "Mr Roberto", unless it's another person imitiating him...

nevertheless, i got tons of video on him now, all in one night, including him getting at least ten innocent players banned.

Also, I found something out thats interesting... On Assault, he'll join a server, grab the flag, and either 1.) get in a hog, and sit in a corner of the map, so someone HAS to tk him to be able to score... or 2.) get in a hog, request gunner and passenger, then attempt to drive off a bridge/cliff in order to kill everyone.

And I also found out he also likes to drive at teammates, then jump out of the hog/ghost at the last second so it registers as, "*Innocent player* got killed by a vehicle."

Of course, I have video of all of this... I just want peace in teh public servers!!!

I hear you Smo, I just got done with a few games of CTF where a player named CAN-I-BUST
was tking a player named edge. He must of tked him at least 20 times over the course of three maps!(note:this was on a bungie public server). I only witness this kind of tking on bungie servers. As a matter of fact earlier on that server I dealt with a noob that shot me several times(while we were not in battle, just walking around the base) so I gave him a few warning shots back to stop. He gets the idea that I am trying to tk him or just gets pissed off. So when he wouldn't stop shooting I tked him to protect myself, I explained after that not to shoot me. However he tried it again and I tked him again, this is where I draw the line though even with an -blam!-, if he wants to continue fine by me I will let him tk me at this point untill he is banned.

My stance is if you tk someone by accident just type "sry" and that is what I do everytime i accidently tk someone.

I HATE TKERS I WILL POSITIVILY NOT BUY HALO 2 FOR PC IF IT HAS PROBLEMS WITH TKING

It's not the physics. (which are perfect...)

Yep, Bungie did an outstanding job on physics in Halo

It's not the netcode. (which is good)
I'd say you're wrong here - the multiplayer code is not very goo at all IMO; Vehicles lag, even with a ping of 66 or something very low. Heck I've even seen warthogs disappear halfway through their animations on a LAN server of mine! Gearbox probably could have made it far better and optimised (though CE does improve it somewhat)

It's not even the banshees. (which suck)
Agreed

I agree with your post completely, and wish you good luck in getting this person banned. Blowing yourself up with grenades is a new one to me, but it highlights just how poor the kill-tracker is (I've seen someone fall off a ledge 10 seconds after I hit him with a bullet, (I had dies by then btw), and still had the kill attributed to me).

This highlights the growing need for an admin on the server, or atleast people who can be trusted who have the power to kick and ban players such as ME=KING.

Sadly, your post will not have any effect whatsoever, a shame that Bungie has isolated themselves from the community, except for the occasional post here and there. Ever tried contacting them? I did, only to have the email ignored (it was confirmed as being recieved by the automailer).

Anyway, try spamming halopc@bungie.org (I think that's the address, look it up on the Halo PC section if it doesn't work) until they finally take notice.

Also, here are some things that could be better done to combat teamkillers (which will be ignored by Gearbox because they make sense):

**Make it so that quiting and rejoining does not reset the number of teamkills
**Allow games to be logged, including chat, kills etc, which can be of use in getting someone banned - if every game X goes in, people are verbally attacking him/her for being a TKer, something is going on there
**Allow people to be reported to Bungie (for Bungie's servers obviously)
**Improve the way kills are given to players to make them far more accurate, such as by reducing the time between dying and being attacked so that people can't "be killed" by players, 10 seconds later, so that grenades and explosives will register a self-kill; it's not really the other player that causes a crap grenade throw, and also to tweak it for various types of death.

Also while playing a CTF game I belive I saw on my "team" where he proptly TKed me. Well I don't take that well, and for the rest of the game I TKed and TKed him.

Ive seen ME=KING before.... bad experiences...

And one time, i forget his name, kept on TKing us for no real reason. It was 3 vs 3 , CTF, and he didnt make thngs better. When the host and I , best friends, went to get da flag from the enemy, Mr TKer comes up and attacks us with a Banshee! While we are getting the flag! But I shot him down and we eventually scored. All this while, he was attacking us.

He even went so far as to proclaim his loyalty to the Blue team (the enemy) WHILE ON OUR TEAM!!! but, ''Chickan'', on the blue team, a good follower to honour and loyalty, kept on killing the Betraying Bastard while we scored.

Now THATS a goood friend (Chickan).

and , that guy who's namer i cant remember, kept on calling both of us (Shade and Cortana) a ''hoe''. I dont know why, maybe he couldnt spell, maybe he meant that we were acting like a gardening tool used for digging.

When I explained to him what a 'hoe' was, he said, ''yeah thats right hoe.'' It got annoying , then amusing, then stupid and boring.

Then, after that round of bloodshed and betrayal, he explained that he was letting off some steam. Then he was a good little player.

Hang on.... Steam=Valve.... HE WAS WORKING FOR HALF LIFE 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was trying to turn us Halo players against each other !
Or he just meant he was angry....

He he, good one, dude, switching teams as soon as ME=KING comes in... he cant TK, neither can you. Best for everyone...
