right, think of halo ce
think of the two betrayels
think of that final battle, the one with loads of grunts, jackles, elites, flood, 2 hunters, 2 wraiths, 2 invis elites, a few ultra elites, a few turrets, and a pretty big stockpile of weapons just beforehand.
wasnt that amazing?
now think of attack on the control room
you emerge from a cliff wall, to see an overturned warthog and a few marines fending off a wraith and several enemies. you hook up with the marines and take out all the opposition.
then round the corner theres a tank, more marines, 2 wraiths, ghosts, grunts and elites, you pick up these marines and wipe out the enemies, procede through a tunnel or around a clif face to get into battle with a wraith, a ton of ghosts, hunters and elites.
after a bit more of the level you reach a section after 2 hunters at the bottom of a cliff with a curved path up it. there are rockets and an invis next to the wall, and an invis elite with a sword just ahead. you assasinate the elite, then with all your 10 marines behined you, run up a path to see a bunch of grunts and 2 elites, you snipe one of the elites before your invis runs out and then all hell breaks loose. your marines run up the cliff screaming, 2 covenant turrets start pumping out the plasma, 2 ghosts start trying to nail you to the floor while a banshee rains fire from above. this is as well as the 4 elites and more grunts that are dispersed across the area.
it was amazing, these were my favourite 2 sections of any video game ever.
to replicate these i think we need to beef up the marines, in CE they could hold their own with a little supervision, in halo 2 they were weak as -blam!- but if all givin carbines and snipers could help cover your back. halo 3 was like watching the russians charge the german lines in ww2 :/
so in halo reach i would love stronger marines, soldiers worth risking your life to save, worth spending that extra 2 minutes looking for an extra warthog for them, worth giving them a half decent weapon. imo it made me care more about the battle and what was going on.
the second thing is that although i loved the mongoose attack in 'the storm' i didnt particularly like the big vehicle battles. i wanted more battles like the 2 betrayels where your on foot, with a gun, dodging enemy fire, not getting pissed off with the 20 ghosts swarming you.
so those are my requests bungie, odst should be pretty good at this with firefight, but i think you could make them grander than some survial mode level.
thanks for reading :)
