Yeah, orginization weeks ahead of time is vital for a LAN of that magnitude to work. Had a LAN party for the original Halo with my friends, and it took us at least a month to get all of the people together that were going, and to sort out major teams. There was only 10 of us too. Takes quite an effort, even when there's only 10 of you.

The pinnacle of the night was a 4 hour CTF match...some of the most fun I've had in my entire life.

I played a team slayer game where two people on the other team kept commiting suicide and after a while everyone on that team quit except one guy. After he said he was going to report us for cheating, what an -blam!-!

I've just come back from a LAN party actually. It was fantastic. Playing on live is good and all, but it doesn't compare to being able to physically pummle the person in the next room for being a camping -blam!-... Hehe

Yup I am a NOOB to the this forum, but a VET on XBOX live,,, so onto the LAN party,, they are very cool to do and loads of fun. I have had a few people over for a small LAN party just a few times. We also come up to my work "NORFOLKWIRE & ELECTRONICS" and play on the 84" lcd projector (x2vga+ adapter) upstairs along with some friends and their XBOX gear. I play on a 19" lcd at home. I would like to shed some light on the cabling used for LAN parties. Hence the name of my employeer<<<<. For a long time the industry standard was CAT5, well there is a cable out now called CAT6 it is a much better cable with a lot better specs to it, rated passed 350mhz. Also instead of the normal 4 port router, go with a 8-16 port ethernet switch it will handle the network traffic much better, less lag and latency and allow for way more XBOXes. For the A/V cables I would use whatever you need to host the party ect, composite, component, or whatever your guest bring with them. I have the X2VGA+ and a NEOVO 19" lcd, I can pack up and go where ever the party is. You guys should check into the CAT6 cable. I use it in my house and everyone who has played there had mentioned the smooth game play and load times are great with no lag. At work our network is all CAT6 and I have had 6 XBOXes hooked up to our 24 port switch. I just wanted to add my $.02. Have fun killin and c-ya online

You know, you've helped me figure out what's wrong with xbox Live Halo 2 contests (as opposed to LAN parties). When I manage to kill someone in a LAN party I can hear their cry of desperation across the room and we can engage in some, er, friendly spoken rivalry.
On Live this does not happen; even if they happened to be pressing "white" when they died it still cuts out. I miss the social aspect that the involuntary screams of my opponents bring. Think about Gotham. It's fun to hear the other guy curse when they clip a corner - they'd never voluntarily press "white" at that point.
Don't get me wrong, I think that pressing "white" is great; and the proximity voice thing where you can hear people near you is really really cool (actually, is it mapped to surround - I can never tell - don't think so). But I feel that you should ALWAYS be able to hear EVERYONE (OK - you *can* make it an option if you like) UNLESS you press "white" when only your team will be able to hear UNLESS (like always) you are close to another player when they will be able to hear you too.
I don't think that this changes the real meaningful use of "white" but it really brings back the sense of being there in the room with the other people.
What say you?

lans are fun... but, god forbid i would ever host one... you could spend thousands of dolars ( half of that on food alone) if you wanted to have a really big (a.k.a.- good) lan party.

oh hell ya, hang em high, by far is the coolest level, but bungie was saying that they did try to put hang em high in halo 2. but they said with all the changes with weapons etc. it just wasnt fun, and was unbalanced. and im thinking WOA, bungie actually tests these kinds of things, then how did they come up with slayer battle rifles, there is no way bungie could have tested that game type and said "hay this is fun!"
i hate battle rifle slayer

i have played a LAN game only once and it was fun!!! me, a expert friend of mine, and a novice player played against a team of 4( hard odds, you ask?) actually, no. the team of 4 was a team of complete novices so me and my gaming expert friend owned the other team. we never died except the novice on our team, who got a few good kills from time to time, but died maybe 7 times.) we owned so much that i had to go to the other team while one of their novices had to go to the winning team. the team i played on sucked. we lost by 10 points(about that much) well, that was because i helped in racking up kills before switching to other team, that was reason why i lost.)
