Subject: A way to balance the Hornet.

Now, there has been alot of debate on a way to balance the Hornet. People have suggested that the Hornet either;

A: Lose the missles
B:Only shoot one weaker missle.
C:Make it like the transport hornet.

Now, I've got a better Idea, that will keep the hornet the way it is, while also balancing it. The current power of everything on the standard hornet would remain the same, while leaving the visual look of the Hornet the same as well.

The Hornet is a transport vehicle, but it's also powerful. The Hornet in it's current state is not fit for MatchMaking, but what the Hornet had an ammo limit?

Like a detached chaingun, the hornet could have 400 bullets in it's chainguns. This would cause you to think about what you target, while leaving the power the same, if you stayed alive long enough, then it would become a mini pelican(not literally) and it would be transport-only.

In addition to machineguns with limited ammo, the missiles would also be limited. You would get 30 missles, 15 shots. (2 missiles fire each time you pull the trigger) This would make you think about what you want to use your missiles on, a standard soldier now, for an easy kill? Or save them for when a scorpion shows up.

I think that by using this sort of method the Hornet can be balanced, without making any major changes to it.

What do you think about this idea?

IMO The machine guns should be put in between the powers of the regular, and transport hornet. And, the missiles lose lock-on, but instead of 2 missiles per shot, 4 mini missiles that do much less damage then previously.

The chain guns could be slightly weakened, but I don't see why you would need to alter the missiles, it's not like they connect EVERY time they are fired.

Yes, I reckon this is a great idea apart from the fact that this has nothing to do with Halo: Reach.... Tut. Tut.

The Hornet will be in Halo: Reach, and I offered a way to balance the Hornet that will be in Halo: Reach, so it is relevant.

Your toast has been burned! And NO amount of scraping will remove the black parts!!.

As much as I've argued with you before, I actually like this idea. However it probably wouldn't be implemented, simply because none of the OTHER vehicles have an ammo limit. As silly as it sounds, it would be weird to have only ONE vehicle with ammo limits.
For me, I think you'd only need to limit the missiles. The gun doesn't seem too overpowered, and personally I think the Hornet's armor is a little weak, compared to what I envisioned.

Additionally, I think they should add area-specific hitboxes for the engine pods, similar to headshots on player models. Not that hitting an engine with one shot should destroy the Hornet, but hitting one of the engine pods with a few BR-rounds, or a couple sniper-shots would kill that engine, sending the Hornet out of control.

There you go making unfounded "proof" statements. Why must you insist on such things? You don't KNOW the Hornet will be in H:R.

Such as the engine from the ghost in Halo 2?

Can you make an explanation as to why the Hornet, which was in service as far back as HARVEST, not be on the largest UNSC stronghold?

Did I say it wouldn't be there? No.

All I said was you can't say it WILL.

All we know of H:R is what's in the teaser-vid, and we didn't see or hear about any Hornets...yet.

Will H:R have Hornets? Probably. But we don't know yet, it could have something different. Who knows, maybe we'll have access to the 'upgraded' Hornets from HaloWars. ;-)

And you know for a fact there is a drivable hornet in this game. We don't have a clue about the game and you think the hornet needs to be different. Wait until the beta, find info, then post.

idiot.

Other than the spectre, there has never been a vehicle in a previous Halo game, that wasn't in a sequel. Plus, the Hornet was the UNSC's main air vehicle, on planets. Reach was the largest UNSC stronghold, of course there is going to be Hornets, and that insult wasn't necessary.

Other than the spectre...

How about the Spirit? I haven't seen one of those lately either.

As soon as you find an exception to the rule, it's no longer a very enforceable rule.

AGAIN, we're not saying H:R won't have Hornets, we're just saying we don't know yet. /brokenrecord

The spirit wasn't a usable vehicle.

You didn't say "usable":

... there has never been a vehicle in a previous Halo game, that wasn't in a sequel.

Choose your words wisely. ;-) Besides, it doesn't matter whether it was/wasn't usable, the argument is about continuity, which still applies.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

The Hornet would be fine if the Missiles were nurfed, and the regular gun stayed the same as the Transport.

Then you would have to remove the fuel rod off the banshee. And nobody wants that.

its already equal lazer vs hornet lazer wins.

Who said the Hornet WILL be in Halo: Reach? And, who said that if it is in Halo: Reach it will be usuable? This isn't relevant to this forum. You say you are offering ways to balance an element in a game that we don't know much about. What you're really doing is offering ways to balance the Hornet from Halo 3 and assuming it will be in this game.

Once again, you are faced with the question. Why wouldn't the Hornet be ON Reach? It was the largest U.N.S.C. Stronghold in the entire universe.

  • 07.29.2009 2:30 PM PDT

Less accurate, less powerful rocket's, more accurate chaingun's. Now it's fixed.

^^ I agree with Bungishon, take it to the Halo 3 forum.

He didn't say the Hornet wouldn't be on Reach, but that it may not be in the game, and it may not be usable. You're assuming something about a game that we know nothing about.
