Subject: Halo Reach MP will emulate (and improve) the Killzone model

What is your ideal sensitivity?

Has this been said already?

I am convinced that the new MP will be like Killzone. You'll play several different people in the campaign, each as a different class (medic, demo, stealth, etc), then choose amongst those classes during the MP. That is what will make it unique to Halo. I'm 99% certain this is the direction they'll go. Thoughts?

We'll see. It works for Killzone 2, not sure about Halo.

Agreed. I don't like it so much but I really think this is the way they'll go. Hence the beta. They'll tinker for a while with us to get the model just right for Halo.

The Multieplayer needs to be bigger..

Large Battles where people play as the covenant which their true abilities and Spartans with different abailities like you stated.

We should be able to pick any alien race we wanted to play..

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

It is possible, though I would like to think of it more like Star Wars Battlefront in terms of class choice (it was a much better game than the Killzone series).

Dianna Agron is the epitome of perfection.

Quinntology.

I would like to see it in Multiplayer more than campaign. Each team is a squad of 4 set players. That way, we won't be seeing 3 Lindas (snipers) or 4 Johns (soldier) running around.

  • 07.29.2009 10:36 AM PDT

Or maybe we can play the flood in Multieplayer also..

I hate to say it, but i think you might be right in terms of Bungie implementing "classes" into Halo Reach. I've never really liked the class FPS with the exception of TF2. But who knows? Maybe Bungie can pull it off with great class and style.

I'd rather not have it in MP though. We'll see soon enough.

Maybe in MP each team would have set classes. Each team can only/has to have a certain amount of each individual character. To make for a more leveled playing field and skill curve.

I REALLY HOPE I'M WRONG THOUGH. DIFFERENT SET CLASSES IS THE LAST THING I WANT TO SEE IN MULTI PLAYER.

And how will this work with weapon pick up and equipment? It only raises more questions and pisses me off. I must stop posting in this tread for fear of brain hemroids.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

Would be cool to see a Battlefield style class system, and a BF 1943 style squad (though improved for better team cohesion), on enormous maps. Other than that, Halo's gameplay should remain largely the same as in the classics (shields, melee, strafing, fall damage, crouching to save yourself, etc.)

The classes should be preset because custom classes are unbalanced (as demonstrated in COD games).

The Multieplayer has to have a major Overhaul.. If its another game with the same multieplayer..

I am going to be really disappointed.

I agree to an extent, but fall damage = epic fail. I always hated it in Halo CE and was extremely grateful they took it out.

Well, if they are going to do classes nurfs need to be made. What would the classes be? I have a few ideas... (I will put the Elite variants in brackets)

Soldier: (Warrior)
Armor: Mk V (Combat)
Speed: Medium
Health: Medium
Load: Assault Rifle (Plasma Rifle), Magnum (Plasma Pistol)

Rifleman: ?
Armor: ? (?)
Speed: Medium
Health: Medium
Load: Battle Rifle (Carbine), Magnum (Plasma Pistol)

Heavy Gunner: (?)
Armor: ? (?)
Speed: Slow
Health: High
Load: Chaingun Turret (Plasma Cannon), Magnum (Plasma Pistol).

Anti-Tank: (?)
Armor: ? (?)
Speed: Medium-Slow
Health: Medium-High
Load: Rocket Launcher (Fuel Rod Gun), Magnum (Plasma Pistol).

Grenadier: (SpecOps)
Armor: CQB (Assalt)
Speed: Medium
Health: Medium
Load: Shotgun (Energy Sword), Magnum (Plasma Pistol), 2 Frag Grenades (2 Plasma Grenades).

Engineer: (Pilot)
Armor: EVA (Flight)
Speed: Fast
Health: Low
Load: Magnum (Plasma Pistol), *Sotering Tool, Health Packs. (Has some benefit in vehicles)

Sniper: (?)
Armor: ? (?)
Speed: Medium-Fast
Health: Medium-Low
Load: Sniper Rifle (Beam Rifle), Magnum (Plasma Pistol).

Then maybe some unique classes per side like:

UNSC:
Anti-Air:
Armor: ?
Speed: Slow
Health: High
Load: Missile Pod, Magnum.

Flamer:
Armor: ?
Speed: Slow
Health: High
Load: Flamethrower, Magnum

Covenant:
Needler:
Armor: ?
Speed: Medium
Health: Medium
Load: Needler, Plasma Pistol.

Honor Guard:
Armor: Honor Guard
Speed: Medium
Health: Medium-High
Load: Honor Guard Pike, Plasma Pistol.

Ok, so thats all I could come up with so far... but if you want to fill some of the holes (like covenant name variations, armor permutations, etc.) feel free, or make your own. Keep in mind that though this may not seem balanced at first, think of the Plasma Rifle and Pistol as the Halo CE versions, then they balance better.

You my friend, get a cookie. You have great ideas for classes. I love what you're getting at. It reminds me of the TF2 class system. Great post. I just wrote a lot of small sentences!

It isn't our shiznit anymore.

Who says Killzone is the first game to create this system. The first console game I played that used this method was Call of Duty, though I'm sure there were pc games that had earlier class systems and different perspective campaigns.

I don't know if classes could work because some weapons can't be balanced. One class would have the rocket launcher or sniper and be able to destroy all other classes. Unless Bungie makes Reach's Multiplayer larger, the current maps can't competitively work for a whole team with rocket launchers and snipers (imo).

I think the Classes should be able to use all the weapons.. but, If you choose a Sniper class and there main weapon is a sniper rifle and you choose an SMG. The Sniper class wouldn't be as good with the SMG as the class that has the SMG as their main weapon.

To expand on this, it would be neat to see 4 squads of 4 on a team, one with a designated "leader". That leader can press left on the Dpad to send chat to other leaders, or right to send chat to his squad. This will force the teams to divide up into these squads, but STILL be able to work together with the rest of the team.

Actually, with this, squads would get kinda cool, you might have a seperate group that snipes, while two groups assault the enemy base, and a 4th is set to defense (the sniper group would be laid out across the map, setting traps and such) This would be in combination with the class idea though.

It would be extremely unbalanced in a class based game. Example: you spawn as a sniper and climb to the highest mountain and start picking people off. Someone comes after you, and you just jump off of the mountain and don't get hurt.

Fall damage in Halo CE worked well, because Halo CEs maps were made with fall damage in mind. I would like to see the return of fall damage. (Remember Hang Em High, which later became Tombstone? the loss of fall damage RUINED that map)

im sorry, but how does copying another game make it unique?

Doc: "i'm a pacifist"
Caboose: "your a thing that babies suck on?"
Tucker: "no dude, that's a pedephile"
Church: "tucker, i think he means a pacifier"

I don't see the role thing happening in any large fashion, considering Spartans are multi-role soldiers (provided were playing as Spartans). Even though they have specialties, they are all ass-kickers through and through.

Pride is power. Bravery is strength. Zeal is necessary. Blindness is death.

Elites as well were versatile fighters, but both Spartans and Elites fall back to a certain job. Did not squads have a Spartan set for each job, like sniping or demolitions? Did not Elites fight in different styles, such as Zealots in melee or Spec-Ops in stealth?

Perhaps it could be a mix of both systems. Blend the role-changing system of SW Battlefront with customizable features we are all familiar with for a better system. Have personalized armor, but be able to change your role and your appearance only slightly.
