Subject: Ship to Ship combat.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

As many of you remember, Halo CE, and Halo 2 had one big thing in common. In the first level, you were on either a UNSC Ship OR Orbital Defense Platform, that was being assaulted by Covenant boarding parties. This always got me thinking: "What if they took Halo multiplayer, and made a map featuring a Covenant ship, and a UNSC ship, with a bunch of ways to get over."

Halo CE featured a map that I believe began from this same idea, the great map Boarding Action. But Boarding Action never fitted my needs... (The ships were open? Rooms OUTSIDE the ship? Teleport from one to the other?)

So then I said "What if they used parts of the single player missions Pillar of Autumn, and Truth and Reconciliation. Then meshed in the idea of automatic Boarding Craft (load up in the craft, hit the switch, the craft immediately flies over to the UNSC ship and penetrates the hull, like the ones in Cairo Station). These craft would be limited on the map (probably 3 to 5 on each side, the UNSC side would feature Pelicans that automatically fly into the Covenant Hangar...) And perhaps a few directly connected tubes between the two ships (as described in Halo: Contact Harvest) and we could have one hell of a multiplayer map.

Imagine, looking outside your UNSC ship's windows, and seeing a massive clash between AI controlled Seraphs and Longswords (to add ambiance), a MASSIVE Covenant Cruiser taking up most of your pretty view of Reach below. Maybe catching a glimpse of a Covenant Boarding Craft headed your way, and moving away from the wall in time too see the penetration tunnel pierce through the hull of your ship, looking into the tunnel, and seeing a couple of enemies running through that tunnel, ready to attempt a bomb plant in your base (likely the bridge of your ship).

Now flip sides. You spawn in the Covenant ship, you wander the purple halls and eventually come to the hanger. looking out the fazed windows, you see the UNSC Frigate in all its glory, a and manage to spot Archer Missiles flying through space and hitting one of the energy barriers that surround your window. An explosion lowers the shield barrier long enough for a UNSC Pelican to make its way into the ship, spinning around quickly, and opening its hatch, a group of players from the enemy team run out. You take cover, knowing 4 players would kill you big time, and tell your teammates the enemy has reached the hangar.

Good times on a big map (definitely rivaling the size of Waterworks, and Sandtrap.)

Legends never die.

This is an interesting concept to say the least. I like your brainstorming. However, I fear that almost the entire game will be fought on the ground on Reach. Of course, I could be wrong. I would love to see some good old fashion pirate ship-like fights. Ship to ship combat huh? hmmmmmm....

I would actually just like to see this as a multiplayer map. But in campaign, a mission to board a Covenant ship MAY follow some level of Canon (if say, your particular group of Spartans escapes Reach on a UNSC ship, you may be attacked and boarded by the Covenant, and pull a good ol' switcheroo on them.)

Thanks for the support so far... hmm, no flaming yet, must have been a good idea. Anyway, I used to create modded multiplayer maps for Doom, so I have a level of experience in structural creativity, and multiplayer map planning. Unfortunately I only recently learned to use forge well... but I am thinking of making my own Guardian/Lockoutesque map soon... New layout, similar feel. Maybe I should wait for Reach though...

4 europeans, an american and a japanese person in a game

I was totally expecting a joke out of that.

How about drivable Pelicans and Phantoms?

I'm sure there are a ton of problems, but it would be cool to have maybe have Star Wars Battlefront II space battles, maybe even with flyable longswords and seraphs.

This would fit hand in hand with Battlefront style class choice, thats for sure. But Reach is an Arm of the main Halo franchise. A class based shooter would fit more of a Spinoff game, like Halo Wars, or ODST.

It would be awesome to see some Marathon cruisers duking it out with CCS cruisers. Or Supermacs gutting Covie ships.

Pride is power. Bravery is strength. Zeal is necessary. Blindness is death.

I love the idea of ship to ship battles, but it would be awkward if Spartans started on the Covenant cruiser and Elites on the Human frigate, and there's no way to set that.

I like the idea it sounds like alot of fun but the only problem i can c with this idea is it would be way to easy to camp the locations where the boarding crafts land.

That part of Cairo Station was one of the hardest parts in the whole game, also, the Covenant Hangar is HUGE, so it should work fine...

Thats exactly what I was thinking.

I suppose it could be done but the entire multiplayer would have to be completely different from any other halo game.

The difference between this and Battlefront, is that the way from one ship to another is automated, you won't control your own ship, just where to land.

Sounds good
but needs way points in between to fight over
say "islands" with territories to control?
pieces of debris
pieces of a glassed planets
maybe they could even explain the gravity issue
it may b like battlefront
but whats wrong with that?
battlefront is awesome
but the space battles lacked a little
some improvements would be nice

The Halo REACH Script (post thoughts in thread)

Writing Lead of Whisper Studios. Check out Heron!

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

(I believe that "Boarding Action" was used to train Spartan-IVs, possible the rumored Delta Company).

I would definitely like a UNSC vs. Covenant ship to ship map. I feel it would work better for MP than SP, but it would be nice going right from a crumbling UNSC ship into a Covenant ship to try and destroy it from the inside in campaign... wether that happens in Halo REACH, or Halo REACh 2/3....

~the falcon doesn't hunt just to kill, but to survive~

the battlefield space battle type gameplay would fit great in the halo universe, but bungie would defiantly have to make a few changes, space battles in battlefield were way too easy

if they could tweak it some parts, change other parts entirely (maybe more than just 5 rooms inside the ships) and make it support boarding raids a lot better, it could prove to be pretty fun.

i'd love to see something like this in the beta, just to see how it would turn out
