Even though the administrator of a group can put in the group description, motto, FAQ, etc. whether a group is open or not, I think there should be some way to show to that a group is open or not to anyone wanting to join a specific group. Yeah sure you could always message the administrator and ask, but it would save time if we knew whether a group was open or not.

Yeah there should be a little icon beside the "join this group" button that says "opened Group" or "Closed Group".

It should that way staff groups wouldn't have to worry about the member queue

Yeah, when you searched for chapters. That's the only place I can remember seeing it, at least.

Quit reminding me about the old column you! It's 1:15 in the morning and I can't come up with something creative to call you.

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

Yeah i guess. But if you're going to commit yourself to joining a group, it shouldn't matter if it's open or closed. If a group/chapter is closed for a particular reason, there is usually an explaination avaliable somewhere.

I'm not that active, but never dead.

Edit:
Just realised that this topic is about "Displaying Open/Closed" groups. Yea, that's a great idea. Combined with what I have outlined below, such a display would also include invite only. So it would display either:

Invite Only or Closed.

If the qroup was open there would be no need to display that it is open, if it is, then there would just be the join button.

It would be nice if they implemented sosmething like the party system on Xbox Live. The group would have a overall "Privacy Level" that would deterimine joining.
"Open" would be just like the setting now. Anyone can join, and no message is displayed.
"Request" would also be like the system now, you click on join, and be added to the queue.
"Invite Only" would be like the invite only option on Xbox Live. You would recieve a special PM, or the equilavent that would allow you to join said group if you wanted.
"Closed" is well. closed. No one can join, and no invites can be sent.

Related to invites, invites would be something that could be available as a group staff power. Using security settings, an Overlord would decided just who can send out invites. This would be very much like how only certain people can approve people on the joining queue.

With system implemented, I can see a lot of invites going around as PM's. Personally, I pefer what chapters I want to join and hate being pestered by spam. That is why with the implementation of an invite system, a "block invites" option would also have to be implemented for people who do not want to be asked.

This system would work well, adding a new way to recruit new members for groups while also eliminating the overuse of the PM system as a recuiting tool. By giving Admins the power to 'invite' people, it speeds up the process. Countering any missuse of the system, having a filter would be benifical to many well known members, not to mention the Mods. ;)

Comments? Opinions? Spelling?
