1) Computer A.I. has not advanced to the point where N.P.C. Interaction can be entirely unscripted and is effected by everything. the processing power and development time is not there.
2) In real life, that is EXACTLY what the army talks like to eachother.
3) in Reference to point number one, the only time the marines in Halo ever really speak is in scripted sequences, when they are kicking ass, actually dying themselves, or when the player interacts with them. 2 out of four of those are guaranteed to bring positive, and sometimes stupid reactions.[/quote]
Your responses lack a meaningful interpretation of the concept at hand... I'm sure you know EXACTLY how the army talks to each other. Right?
I know for a fact they don't act like broken down babies. they scream, yell, and do (more or less) what young men do when in the company of only other young men.
Have you ever seen "Saving Private Ryan?" Once again you fail.
Have you ever seen "Jarhead", "Black Hawk Down", or Full Metal Jacket"? Sure, not every piece of dialogue is hunky dory, but when the situation arises, they pull off foul mouthed wisecracks that would put any highschooler to shame.
also, when you take my post in context with my other two points (which you deftly ignored) the times when marines usually pull their wisecracks fit into the description of WHEN they should be doing it.
Also, considering a good portion of saving Private Ryan's sadness was to do with the morality problems of killing other people. Aliens are very morally clean. you don't feel bad for killing opressive alien freaks with 3 eyes.
Oh, so the aspect of war can only be sorrowful/graphic if it's only People killing other people? Wow...that is just stupid. I would be terrified if an ape like alien was shooting nail spikes at me. And no i wouldn't scream like a little girl..but I wouldn't say crap like... "Get Owned!"
