Remember back when TU2 was released alongside a big Matchmaking update?
That was amazing. It felt less like a slight improvement and more like an overhaul, IMO.
Now that ODST is on it's way, I think Bungie should do a few things to Halo 3 to make it feel like a huge community and game overhaul.

Keep in mind that some of these are just wishful thinking and will probably never happen.

-Include the Heroic Map Pack and Cold Storage on Halo 3 discs printed after ODST's launch.

-Include a code to download one (or both) priced map packs in all NEW copies of Halo 3, kind of like what Gears of War 2 did.

-Create a small, bug squashing title update. It wouldn't do much, because Halo 3 is relatively free of huge bugs or glitches, but it would bring about the feeling that Halo 3 is becoming fresher and renewed.

-Greatly update matchmaking. Not a small "fusion coils removed from a part of Valhalla" update, but an update that tweaks nearly every one of the playlists whilst including one or more new playlists. Revive Objective with major tweaks? Remove radar from default snipers, and include advanced radar in shotties? Add in variants of maps like Epilogue or Boundless?
Whatever has been requested the most, just chuck it in.

And so there was a man who ate cake.

And he was happy it was that way.

Let me go down your list very quickly.

- They probably won't bother with that (even though it's a good idea) because it's free on the marketplace and if people want it, they can go and spend a few minutes going to the Marketplace to get it.

- They probably wouldn't do that this early on because they (more specifically Microsoft) wants to continue to gain revenue from the Legendary and Mythic map packs.

- They do update it for bug checks, but as you've already said before, Halo 3 isn't very buggy, so a "bug squashing" update wouldn't do very much.

- They just released Action Sack not too long ago which gave us a bigger variety of Matchmaking playlists (even if they don't give you exp). Removing radar from those two playlists wouldn't really effect the gameplay too much because Sniping is usually done at long range and shotties are close range so making the radar stronger won't really do much. I personally find Objective game types fine, but I won't speak out for the community. And more map varients would be nice, but that's why we have Forge: we can make our own.

PS A big problem with releasing free download codes in new copies is every person who paid for those maps won't want to get a new copy, hence feeling a bit cheated out of a good deal.
