Isn't this extremely illegal? Taking a retail game's content and releasing it for free? Bungie should use microsofts SS lawyer division and go flood on their asses.

Quoted from their website:
"- Is this legal?

We don't really know for certain, as to our knowledge this is the first case of such a mod project. We have sent emails to both Bungie and Gearbox with no reply, but we feel it is safe to proceed based on reading the EULA for HaloPC."

Apparantly the think it's legal. It's not like they're selling it, so it could be worse.

Looks very promising. Here is an image of Master Chief in the UT2k4 engine

A great image of 2 Elite fighting over

Unfortunately, look good as it may, if they are ripping the stuff out of the Halo disk and putting online, that IS stealing and its not a copyright issue but a federal crime.

yes, as long as they don't directly use the game files from halo, then it's fine, but they still need to cite halo, bungie, gearbox, microsoft, as the owners to halo, and that they are not affiliated with them in any way. if they were SELLING it then there'd be a serious problem.

bottom line is that if this is illegal, then all mods also based on movies/tv shows would also be illegal.

ive also seen a battlefield 1942 HALO mod that looked extrordinarily well done.

Using the image of copyrighted entities (like the Chief) would probably be illegal though.

no i dont really think so...

if thats true, then me drawing a picture of MC and showing it to my friends would be illegal. it's non-profit entertainment distribution, and for that, i think just about anything goes, as long as you don't take credit for the ORIGINAL creator's works.

If they are using the images for example, using Governor Schwarzenegger's image as to sell their lipstick or soap to gain a profit and benefit from it, then thats against the law.
