Subject: Please bungie Halo shouldnt be like Mortal Kombat

In Halo 3 the melee is so over powered and there are so many 1 hit kill CQC weapons it tends to turn Halo into in fighting game instead of a FPS. People should not rely on the melee to get kill like they do now, but rather use it as a last ditch effort when all hope is lost. Many people in halo 3 have the melee as their top 2 TOD because of this.

Halo 3 without a doubt has the easiest and most powerful melee within the halo series. It has a super lunge and a almost auto lock. Many players become to rely on it like a crutch because it is so easy and powerful, plus the fact you spawn with it. Players wind up rushing towards one another just so they can use the melee even if they have the advantage of distance because melee is just so easy to use and powerful.

With the weapon selection, it seems as if majoirty of the weapons are close range weapons or weapons that lead to beat downs. Only 7 out of 18 weapons in MM fill the role of mid to long range weapons (BR, Carbine, Sniper Riffle, Beam Rifle, Needler, Laser and Pistol) and 11 weapons that can be categorized as close range weapons. That's over half the match making selection falling into one category.

With reach could you Bungie please take a step back with the melee and close range weapons. Make it so the lunge isn't so large, so you actually have to be close to the target to use it. Turn down the aim assist with the melee. Allow people to dodge it by ducking, and jumping away. With the weapons, space them out evenly through out the categories.

i can agree that the lunge should be minimized a tad....just a bit though.

Really, I understand melee is powerful, but master chief is a spartan. Spartans are extremely strong and able to kill another fully shielded spartan in 2 melees, so it makes sense. Bungie cannot change their story, unless they say spartans' strength wore off after a while.

Im not talking about the two hit kill as the problem, just how easy it is use in game. If you have played Halo CE or 2 you will realize how over powered it is to use because of the aim assist and lunge.

It has never been confirmed what a Spartans melee strength is in the books. Don't make -blam!- up.

I like the melee for regular weapons, but the sword is just retarded.

Hey, Webster, don't be a dick. And actually, it does. In the books it says that the Spartans have extremely high strength, which is as much confirmation as I need.

Its reasonable that there are 1 hit kill weapons, but allow people to avoid them. In halo 2 you could avoid the sword lunge with a quick side step or a duck. Implementing this into Reach would be great.

Dude, in Halo 2 i took 4-5 smacks to kill a full sheilded elite. And in H3 it takes 2.

Holy -blam!-! Extremely high strength means two hit melee kill. Never knew that.

could people talk about the things in the OP rather than books and how strong Spartans are. Like i said before a two hit kill melee is not bad. Just the fact that it is so easy to use because of the lunge and aim assist.

Show me another FPS besides halo 3 where the a large part of the kills are based around melee attacks. FPS should be about shooting guns not punching people.

Lol what u just explained had nothing to do with meleeing someone. Trowing a nade then shooting them in the head =/= meleeing. but that's ok.

I think the problem is that people who cannot aim as well in Halo 3 have begun to rely on the melee because it is so easy. Thats why you see people rushing at one another and beating each other down so often. For something as powerful as a 2 hit kill weapon and assessable as in you spawn with it, it should be some what difficult to use.

The lunge is unneeded. But without the lock on, the melee will become a fest of elbow swinging with no end result and just a bunch of aggravated expletives. Ever tried meleeing your own teammate? It's not very easy.

Halo isn't a fighting game, however.

It says the Spartans are strong, but they never fight each other in the books. The Spartans also have energy shields and bio-augmented skeletons. IMO these two practically cancel each other out. Therefore, It should be like Mike Tyson hitting himself.

  • 07.31.2009 12:05 AM PDT

They actually tried 6 melee hits in Halo 2 pre-patch and the melee was completely useless. Also, Call of Duty 4 has one hit melee kills. They just need to remove the lunge.
