how come everyone talking about firefight makes it sound like a defensive thing? "your somewhere and the covenant are trying to get to you". i think of it as more of an offensive game, see how many points you can get, or see how far you can get. whenever someone talks about a map where between waves you back up or something i cring because my ideal firefight map would be where you are somewhere and there is a constant battle and you are trying to push your territory into the enemy territory, kinda like gaining ground. and as your doing this the covanent is getting reinforcemnts. anyone agree? also go cowboys. =)

Go Rams and Missouri!

Because you'll need to bunker down if you want to advance. You basically have the high ground and play defense against the Covenant.

My problems [with Reach] are basically just full parties, mlg, and people who go out of their way not to get killed.

Once the Mythic skull is flipped on, and the Chieftains, Hunters, and Wraiths are all dropped in at the same time... trust me... you won't be on the offensive anymore... Hell, even without the Mythic skull that trio is likely to rip most squads apart with ease.

but it is a defensive.thats y u have to hold back and conserve lives.also most of the areas that we have seen so far are of strategic points that obviously need to be protected so they are not capture. ie defend them

I agree this is way more deffensive than offensive, you should just stand your ground and kill everything that is thrown at you.

yeah but i think instead of all of the time slowly retreating, you and your squad consistantly move foreward, slowly through the waves, as if your trying to get to an objective or something like that. when a you're faced with a big challenge, be it wraiths, hunters, chieftains, or chuck norris, you might loose some ground and fall back a bit, but once thats dealt with and your cleaning up grunts, i'd like to think i'm moving forewards, gaining terretory and moving to complete an ultamate goal. eh?

Yes, which is why I want to make a good Firefight team amongst my friends. I dislike watching Firefight gameplay and seeing people waste rocket ammo on Grunts and Jackals. Save it for the big dogs.

Also, sniping Grunts is a waste of ammo. The lowest thing you should use sniper ammo on is a Jackal Marksman, and that's only if he is giving a squad member trouble, such as pinning him down or nearly killing him.

And so there was a man who ate cake.

And he was happy it was that way.

From the look of some of these maps, there isn't much to be gained by moving forward. Remember, ammo and health is usually where you started, so you'd just be going back and forth.

Plus I'm pretty sure bungie already said that firefight is endless and just keeps on going until everyone dies, and going on the offense is not the best strategy if your just trying to survive. Right?
Which makes this entire argument Null and Void.

The keys to getting far in Firefight: Callouts, team-shooting, power weapon conservation.

wow wow wow wow you mentioned you would only lose a little ground against Chuck Norris no no no you lose everything against Chuck Norris.

Chuck Norris fact: Chuck Norris uses a night light..... not because he is afraid of the dark but because the dark is afraid of Chuck Norris

when i was thinking about my idea of a basic firefight map and it turned out kinda like...

you and your squad are in a room, courtyard, whatever. a sealed off area. there's obsticles and different altitudes, higher grounds turretts, all that good stuff. and then you defend the rock for one wave (actually until the game stops to give you health and ammo, but i dont remember how many waves that is so i'm just gonna say one wave) and then you reload, heal up, and everything.

and you have as much time as you need for this and the covenant doesnt come at you.

you go to them. *gasp* haha
you open a door, open a gate, pass a one way barrier, idk whatever the guys at bungie get paid to come up with. and the covenant are there, waiting for you, and its a new environment. similar, but fresh. the turretts are new, not ripped off. the walls aren't broken (at least i think those things that were breakable covers in the trailer were walls.) and all around its similar, but its not totally new. it'll still be dark, or raining, city or forest. same basic environment, just further on. and then you repeat.
anyone catch my drift? i think this could add some great story and feeling into firefight, say you start out in the jungle and you need to fight your way into the city and once there, you defend from that point, or you start at the end of a bridge, and then once you fight your way to the end you defend a larger building that the covenant previously had.
so its like your taking from them.

That sounds like an interesting IDEA, but thtats not how firefight works it's just one area where you fight covenent wave after wave until they eventually kill you. Thats it nothing more.

alright, thanks for the read guys. and btw sorry if it seemed like i thought this was a offensive game type (i mentioned the term 'defend the rock' somewhere in my post, right?), i merely meant that i thought it'd be neat if in between waves you move foreward to fresh health ammo and base instead of backwards and different ways of introducing the covenent reinforcements other than phantoms rapid fire. and btw, does anyone know if it'd ever be possible to kill a phantom before it drops off its troops? i smell a killamanjaro! haha

Your is not the same as You're

Plunk.

A total FU exception has occurred at your location. All system functionality will be terminated. Press any key to power cycle the system. If system does not restart; scream at top of lungs and pound on keypad. If you need to talk to a programmer press any other key Press any key to continue_

Preliminary operational tests were inconclusive (the damn thing blew up)

I think it sounds like Gears of War 2's horde mode, which was awesome, too.
