Installed Halo for PC on my laptop and played a couple of levels, spent some time in multiplayer. I would get a message at every startup that my video driver wasn't tested, and an update might help. I believe it was defaulting to PS FF (the lowest rendering mode), but was working fine. After a level or two I got tired of seeing that error on startup, so I tracked down the upgrade to my video driver. The upgrade worked, and now I don't get the error. Some of the visual effects are better ... like water and fog. But the one effect that's completely junked is the Active Camouflage. Where I used to see a "ripple in the air" (similar to the effect in the movie Predator), I now see camouflaged figures as a flat grey form. They're much more noticeable! If I want to get the camoflage working, I have to force the PSFF rendering mode, which restores the camoflage effect, but once again loses fog, some ambient lighting, rendered surfaces (water), etc.
Has anyone else experienced this behavior, and is there any way to fix it?
