Subject: Perhaps - These Spartans are SPARTAN-III's?

Still using a pump-action shotgun over 500 years in the future I see.

omg not realistic stop game production plz

This would explain why there are Spartans with numbers as high as 259 and 320, as SPARTAN-III's often had numbers this high.

Thoughts?

This is a prequel. The Spartan III's weren't trained until late in the Human/Covenant war. Reach was earlier, before the Spartan III project was developed.

Yeah, actually it is canon. It's most likely going to follow the events of Halo: Fall of Reach, at least to some extent. Perhaps it will just be limited to the time line, but it's canon none the less.

Bleh. The project might have been started then, but there was no mention of Spartan III's on Reach. I was off on the time, but I was right that they weren't present during those events. I'm pretty sure someone would notice a hundred or so extra Spartans running around on Reach.

To explain the confusion, I was following the Halo story in terms of...publication. I know that isn't the case, but I mistakenly forgot certain dates between books.

1. Spartan-III's are used for highly strategic/higher risk operations, not worthless suicide missions.

2. Spartan-III's identify themselves with their number and class name (A, B, G).

The Halo novels have always been considered canon. Besides the fact, Bungie wouldn't make a game in their series that isn't considered canon. That's like saying Halo 2 wasn't confirmed to be canon.

Actually the spartan IIIs were trained in the 2540s which is before reach but they were still too young to have fought in the battle

No where. Spartan III-s start relatively early (about 10-15 years) after the start of the war. Reach falls within nine months of the end of the war.

Which is what I should have written. I know, I'm off right now, but I'm, running on very little sleep, and the basic point is getting across. There were no Spartan III's present during the fall of Reach.

  • 07.31.2009 7:29 AM PDT

We're not retreating! we're just advancing!......Torwards future victories!

Reach was just a small group of spartans holding out. Masterchief was not involved nor were any Spartan-IIIs. They fought guerilla warfare while the covenant were looking for something dumb.

Read Halo 3: Fall of Reach

Chief was in orbit with James and Linda blowing up a NAV database. he later returned AFTER the battle to steal the thing the Covenant wanted.

When you think about it, Spartan III's are just glorified ODSTs with auto-camo armor.

No, wrong. They're quite a bit stronger than ODST's, are quicker (in reflexes and movement), superior senses (especially sight) and their armour has the camo and is tougher against plasma.

  • 07.31.2009 7:47 AM PDT

Signatures are for squares.

*sigh*

All of the Spartan III Alpha Company was killed before Reach.
All of the Spartan III Beta Company was killed before Reach, except for Tom and Lucy, who helped train Gamma Company.
The Spartan III Gamma Company didn't receive deployment orders until Reach had fell, and 3 teams from Gamma remained on Oynx, when it was attacked.

Also, Chief DID fight on Reach, just very briefly.

EDIT: Oh, and this game IS Canon.

They are kids. They aren't THAT strong. They are probably more agile and nimble and can sure take a lot of pain. they have unit cohesion from being with each other over a decade or so. Their armor isn't any better in terms of plasma protection.

halo reach better be like the exact gameplay as halo ce, like no duel weilding or equipment or highjacking and it should use all the original weapons and sounds. Bungie BETTER actually try and make the campaign good on reach becuase lets face it: halo 3's campaign was terrible. biggest let down in the history of mankind.. ok not that big. but still. and this is coming from bungies biggest fan and more importantly halo's biggest fan. The multiplayer in halo 3 is amazing so now that they've got that sussed out they should really put in effort into making things like a plot or maybe even characters you come to care about (i laughed when miranda keyes died, sergeant johnson went out like A loser, and they left halo 3, the supposed finale, at a cliff hanger (may i ask WHY?!)). anyways i would love to see reach with beutiful graphics and the most realistic explosions and all but in the end its the plot of the game that makes it good. Halo ce has, arguably, the greatest campaign out of any game ever and continues to be my favorite out of all the halo titles. It would be cool if bungie introduced some cool new multiplayer but really, first things come first - the campaign.
oh and this goes to bungie... REMAKE BLOOD GULCH.. plz... and let us use pelicans in multiplayer!!

and about the Spartan 3's... it wouldnt be cannon for them to be in the game BUT it would be cool if bungie let us use them in the multiplayer

They are wearing SPI armor Version II, They can take some plasma fire first, and their suits have built in camo. Not to mention they've been in training since they were FOUR YEARS OLD

  • 07.31.2009 7:54 AM PDT

plus they have better augmentations than spartan 2's
