Subject: Idea's For A New Color Selection System in Upcomming Halo Games

"This is where things get Ugly"

I think they should change the color selection, instead of having set colors, maybe they should implement Color Sliders or A Color scale so that everyone can have a custom color and further custumize their armor and add more character and selection to the game. maybe even add dome decal selection for further customization, as in bullet dents, or plasma burns, Etc. What Does Anyone think or suggest.

I don't see why not, but the main thing I want is black armor.

Yeah, I agree, the steel color is awesome but Jet Black is even better. Kudos and thanks for the reply, this is my first time doing forums.

The platypus is all...

This is always what I thought....Bungie didn't put Black into the game for a reason because if there WAS black....EVERYONE IN THE GAME would have black ninja Armour...I mean everyone...

There will be no creativity whatsoever in the arrangement in colors. Even now you don't see someone in orange and blue armor!

Well there is black in the first Halo, but why they took it out is beyond me.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Black in the first Halo was more of a puke green than a Black. Either way, they don't have it because on darker maps Black players would be WAY too hard to see.

Another cool thing i just thought of would be visor colors, maybe we could be able to change the colors on that. I just think it would be awesome, not that bungie will actually do it but if they do, Awesome!

"This is where things get Ugly"

Very good point I didn't Think of that.

Having sliders or something like this could make the game lag more, as there would be so many more different possible armor combinations, and it would have to load each of them in every FFA game, and load all the custom detail colors in every team game.

The system we have now is fine

Colors don't make a game lag. I've played makeshift DOOM, and I mean OLDSCHOOL DOOM PORTS, that allow full color customization, is there lag? No.

Thanks for your input, I can see where that would be a problem in games but with todays tech maybe they can find a simple way to decrease load time, I mean look at Modern warfare and the constant 60 FPS that i holds while loading all of the customizations into that. im not sure, but thats a very good point, not sure how that would work out.

How would it lag? At the beginning of each game, each player would 3 bytes (red, green and blue) to every other player. It would then do whatever it does to make the player model, and then the game would start. Colors wouldn't be transferred mid game because the game already has those colors stored locally.

This idea is definitely worth implementing.

What I want to see in terms of color, is the Secondary color should NOT take up the shoulder, the trim, maybe, but not the whole shoulder. Also Secondary Color should show when you are in a team game, like detail (It did in Halo 2, why not combine BOTH).

"This is where things get Ugly"

I Agree totally, Awesome post, i dont think there would be any lag either, but everyone is entitled to their opinion. but anyways, Kudos

you know nothing of how a game works, you cant just press 1 button to make something, and every different color and piece of armor has to be loaded seperatly into each game, if there was over 100 different shades of green, grey, red, ext. no one would use the same exact color as anyone else, and it would half to load all of the detail colors, secondary colors, and primary colors into each game for all players to see.

In the world of Bungie, I think anything is possible.

"This is where things get Ugly"

The thing is all of that stuff loads before the game starts anyways so im not so sure that it would be that much of a problem in game.

"This is where things get Ugly"

Also with the processor power and graphics engine of the 360 i think it can way more than handle it.

Can you name 1 game that has color sliders, used in a large fashion like on Spartans, and supports atleast 4v4 multiplayer without lagging?

Also: I would rather have a game thats fun to play, than having a game that lets me dress up my character like a god damned barbie doll

and use the -blam!- edit button, for gods sake.

"This is where things get Ugly"

Armored Core, among others.

  • 07.31.2009 10:25 AM PDT

"This is where things get Ugly"

Amored Core is the biggest use of sliders because every part is customizable down to the camo paterns. and it has big mp games too.

  • 07.31.2009 10:26 AM PDT

Armored Core's multiplayer isnt that big, its mostly 1v1, and it doesnt have as much to load such as interactive scenery and cover the way halo does with vehicles, fusion coils, and pallets.

Dont double post.

I don't work for Bungie, but I do know how colors work.

Colors on a computer or gaming console are broken down into reds, greens and blues. Each of those values are given one byte to represent the amount of that color. One byte. My connection could transfer 16,000,000 bytes per second. The colors are applied to the player model's texture(s) and it's done. This method would allow for 16777216 different colors for any one portion of the player.

Each map is on a separate color pallet, I know this. But each color can be found in separate spots on each different pallet. Don't accuse me of lack of knowledge, I have worked plenty with computer game modding, and am even on a team dedicated to the creation of our OWN First Person Shooter (its coming along nicely). The point is however, that a pallet could feature enough colors to allow this full color customization, the initial loading time of the game may be a split second longer, but it is no real difference. And with the download to Xbox feature (which Im guessing Bungie will make Halo Reach to take advantage of) there will be a shorter load time and LESS Lag than Halo 3 already offers.

THE ULTIMATE DOOM, DOOM II, HERETIC, HEXEN, STRIFE etc... (All those games support up to 64 player multiplayer, depending on the source port you use)
