you know nothing of how a game works, you cant just press 1 button to make something, and every different color and piece of armor has to be loaded seperatly into each game, if there was over 100 different shades of green, grey, red, ext. no one would use the same exact color as anyone else, and it would half to load all of the detail colors, secondary colors, and primary colors into each game for all players to see.
I don't work for Bungie, but I do know how colors work.
Colors on a computer or gaming console are broken down into reds, greens and blues. Each of those values are given one byte to represent the amount of that color. One byte. My connection could transfer 16,000,000 bytes per second. The colors are applied to the player model's texture(s) and it's done. This method would allow for 16777216 different colors for any one portion of the player.
