Subject: The Only Classes Acceptable

Show Faith/Defy Fate

In my opinion are the Spartan 2 and 3 class and Elite Honor Guard Classes (could be really strong). This would make more sense rather than allowing a COD based class system.

  • 07.31.2009 11:43 AM PDT

I think I like this Class System better:

if you pick up a sniper, your now a sniper, if you pick up a laser, your vehicle control, you know, kinda like how the current system is.

Completly agree, but lets hope Bungie does as well.

What?

Judging by the banner, if this game ends up being class based, there will be 5 classes. If I were to assign them roles (left to right):

Support. Extra health and slower running speed. Has strong but inaccurate weapons. Can give other players more health (biofoam) and ammo (ammo packs).

Recon. Very little health, active camouflage, quick agility. Has silenced weapons which do not disrupt the camo or make them show up on the radar.

Soldier. Average across the board. He has the standard weapons: Assault Rifle and Battle Rifle. He has regenerating health and can carry more ammo for his weapons than the other classes.

Engineer. Little health but powerful shields and extra motion tracker range. He specializes in close range combat, and is the only class to have melee lunge. He can fix vehicles with a repair tool.

Sniper. Little health and very vulnerable to fall damage, but with high endurance for sprinting. Has a prone ability and specializes in long range combat... and has a very limited motion tracker. Watch your back!

I seriously hope they stay away from a class system, and i'm sure they won't. It is pretty hard not to copy something from some game in the last 20 years, but a class system, specifically some of the systems recommended by people on these forums, is a blatant rip from COD, and I don't see Bungie doing something like that for their last Halo game.

I've never played COD multiplayer (aside from -blam!- zombies), but are there preset classes with different health/speeds/etc. in it? I know it has custom classes, and if classes ever make it to Halo, custom classes should definitely not.

CoD didn't invent classes in shooters. The Class-based Shooter genre is a very popular one. Saying that putting classes into halo is a rip from CoD is like saying CoD is a rip from halo because it's an FPS

There is nothing affecting the vitals, only weapon sets and "perks", but I was speaking generally. I don't mind the current setup, it just needs a few tweaks here and there concerning weapon balance and map design to promote said balance.

I think a class system (from the extreme suggestions to the minor ideas) would be a mistake. Though I don't hate the idea (your example is pretty slick) I don't think it would be a decent fit. Then again not knowing how this game will play, who knows? I could be totally wrong.

I didn't say it did, I was using a current competitive title for the sake of example. As mentioned in my post it is impossible not to draw parralels from one game to another, even if you cross genre you can make an arguement for it if your smart enough.

It takes the sting out of your insult when you mis-spell something after questioning someones intelligence.

Anyway, the beta is not already made, it currently carries a "to be announced" monicker. If there has been some official change, please link it and enlighten me.

So, you want to make it Battlefield: Bad Company 2ish or Battlefield 2?

Support. Extra health and slower running speed. Has strong but inaccurate weapons. Can give other players more health (biofoam) and ammo (ammo packs).
Heavy in TF2
-Extra Health
-Slow
-Inaccurate
Support in Battlefield 2
-Can give health
-Can give ammo
-Innacurate weapons

Soldier. Average across the board. He has the standard weapons: Assault Rifle and Battle Rifle. He has regenerating health and can carry more ammo for his weapons than the other classes.
Assault class in Bad Company
-Standard weapons (M16, AK47, etc.)
-Rechargeable health

Recon. Very little health, active camouflage, quick agility. Has silenced weapons which do not disrupt the camo or make them show up on the radar.
Spy in TF2
-Camouflage
-Low Health

I'm just telling you the classes that fanboys will yell at you for. I like the idea of these classes since it is a mixture of different games. But, once again, be prepared for die-hard fanboys.

I think that with classes you are always going to run into the same kind of stuff as in other games, especially when those other games are based on stuff already well rooted in real life.

But with a Halo twist (it would be Halo's gameplay with shields, dedicated melees, etc.) instead of a basic no-shield war game, it would not feel like BF or COD at all.

True enough, as long as they made sure to actually emphasize a difference between classes that go beyond the weapon set.

Thats not a bad idea. Although i like the current system i would not mind playing this.

Wait, Cheehwawa, would the Recon be fast since it has high agility (similar to Kelly?) or would that be the Sniper class. I would want a class like Kelly (a faster Spartan) but then all the fanboys would yell that it rips off the Scout class in TF2. I, personally, would like a Spartan class system using characters from the universe. The sniper class would be like Linda and utilize all the traits she has. The Recon would be like Kelly since she is faster. John would be the "Soldier" class in your class system.

That's what I based most of them off of (though I dont think thats who we will be in the campaign).

Support = Sam
Recon = Kelly
Soldier = John
Engineer = Will
Sniper = Linda

Sniper would be more around average speed but with the most agility (longest sprint time) to move perch to perch conveniently.

There is no greater catharsis than arguing on the Flood.

The Spartan 3 class isn't even comparable to the mighty 2s.

Will was a close range specialist so I think he would be more appropriate for the Engineer than Fred (Engineer doubles as close range combat).
