Bungie values the MLG community, and they sure as hell wouldn't let that number of people go. MLG is built for FPS and TPS. Like shadowrun, Halo, and Gears. Classes would ruin MLG, and that wouldn't sit over well.
Classes would actually not ruin MLG, provided bungie include custom game options. MLG gametypes could limit the classes to a single one, and change their spawn weapons.

Then that really isn't classes.

This is not Call Of Duty... this is Halo. Halo has been great without classes and Im sure it'll stay great without them

By default it would be class based but you should be able to limit whatever you want in customs. Like how Halo 3 isnt a class based game but you can make the zombies spawn with different weapons and give them traits, turning it into a basic class based game.

Class based games tend to be more balanced, deeper, and generally more fun. Take TF2 for instance (PC, of course); every time you switch classes, it's like you're playing a different game. It also keeps things fresh when there's a counter for every counter...and then a counter for that.

Not to mention it makes it much easier to log hundreds of hours. Maybe Bungie doesn't have their heads in the sand....?

Armor Lock isn't overpowered. You just suck at Reach :)

Reach isn't bad, you're just a BK :)

For my gamertag, look up "Ghoulishtie"

Ghoulish go -blam!- yourself you dumbass kid.

Just the kind of reply a troll would make, which proves i'm not the ignorant one ;)

BTW, 18 isn't a kids age last time I checked.

"I am the Walrus." (:3=)

I think that if Reach had classes it could either be really good or absolute fail. But if Bungie did decide to impliment classes, they would definately do something original. Another cool style of game that the Halo universe could be adapted to is, well honestly I don't know what you'd call it but it's like a mix of RTS and 3rd person vehicle.(If you've ever played either of the Battlestations games, something like that.) And on a side note, I have to say that there are a lot of angry, closed-minded fanboys flaming in this thread that need to grow up.

i would love for everyone on the map spawn with either a sniper, rocket,or laser! the game will be so much fun i cant wait to spend countless hours playing *Sarcasm

I guess me stating my opinion makes me a fanboy that needs to grow up....

No Caboose, I wasn't talking about you. I was talking about the guys getting really angry over an idea that a community member thought would be cool in Reach. Sorry for the missunderstanding.

Its not a spinoff, it's a prequel. So theres no need for classes.

But I wouldnt mind joining as a sniper everytime. Or rocket spam...

Which would be fine, because the sniper wouldn't be any better than any other class. And there wouldn't even necessarily be a "rocket" class.

If the sniper is effective in ALL ranges, (If you can no-scope) then things will be completely unbalanced, and if there is a heavy weapons class (Rockets/laser) people could easily whore that.

ok i wouldnt like to see preset classes in Halo Reach. it wouldnt work with the current Halo. Bungie had to change the main concept, the whole engine, the weapons.

I read alot of topics like a class with no shields but able to run at 200% speed. and a class with 2x shields and very slow -> NO.

a class shouldnt change anything to the shields/ strengths / Speed. maybe only per 10%.
Maybe some speacil features. like the Scout is able to Snipe like: BAM..BAM..BAM..BAM
and no sniper classes like: BAM......BAM.....BAM......BAM

but to be honest i would like to see H:R without classes

Okay, so that would be the exact reason I said at the very beginning of my very first post that it would be cool to have a game where we play as marines. Then there doesn't need to be a crosshair unless you're zoomed in. It makes more sense for a Spartan to have one since their crosshairs are linked to their HUD. Also since marines don't have half a ton of armor backing their shots, their could be more recoil, and the rifle could shoot slightly slower, since it would logically take place earlier on in the war. Bungie has changed their guns before from game to game, so don't cry about how it's just "not Halo". As for rockets, just let them take on more of an anti armor role, and make them less effective against infantry. A slightly smaller blast radius would help that. Or go play BF1943 and spawn as the class that gets a rocket launcher. See if that makes you way better than everyone else.

And seriously, if you people think this would never work, why didn't you -blam!- when Halo Wars was announced? Is it just because it was a different developer? Then do that with this idea (a capable developer) because at least it would result in a good game to add to the franchise. Some of you who just genuinely don't care for that type of game would not be affected, and the rest could eat their words.

Again, NOT necessarily for Reach but for a future game.

The same reason why I'm not freaking about ODST, it isn't a mainstream Halo Game, it was a spinoff. If classes where in a Halo Spinoff, cool, but not a mainstream game.

I didn't put alot of thought into this and Im not suggesting Bungie put this into Reach it's just a quick example. You would choose your character the same way you choose them in Halo 3 along with your starting weapons and equipment. You can only change your character, starting weapons and equipment at the starting menu. In custom games you can change the traits for each character or even just turn character traits off.

Yes I agree that it should be a spinoff. I've said that many times in here. As a spinoff it would be cool while keeping traditional Halo the way it is.

But, Reach ISN'T a spinoff. This is the most significant battle in the entire war (except maybe for Earth) And Bungie won't change the formula for this. That's like saying that Halo 3 should of been class based.

  • 08.06.2009 11:26 PM PDT

Are you serious?! I've already said plenty of times that this idea may NOT be good in Reach and should be a spinoff. I already agreed with you, why are you still arguing?

You argued pretty defensively about this, so I assumed that your objective was to persuade people that classes would work in Reach, my apologies.

  • 08.06.2009 11:44 PM PDT

Oh haha, no hard feelings, I'm only being defensive because it seems like a lot of people here make it out to seem like this idea is some kind of impossibility for any Halo game. Good to know we're on the same page though.
