they should make a gametype with classes problem solved

Nope. Would take up space. I would say Halo: Reach would rather have to have or not.

after this the mods should close this topic now!!!

Oh haha, no hard feelings, I'm only being defensive because it seems like a lot of people here make it out to seem like this idea is some kind of impossibility for any Halo game. Good to know we're on the same page though.

No, it's very possible that classes could be in a spin off game, since there seems to be a high demand about it. I just highly doubt it would be in Reach. I've got no problem with Classes themselves, but for a game I plan on spending 1000's of hours on like I did for previous Halos, I want to play something I'm comfortable with.

It's like when I picked up Halo Wars. I loved the game, and it was fun, but it isn't something that I spent more than 100 hours on. It's great fun, just not something I would want to play all the time.

  • 08.07.2009 12:01 AM PDT

I think we can agree again. I don't think I would want a Battlefield-style game to take over the mainstream Halo games. But I don't think after Reach there will BE any more mainstream ones. But the idea kind of came to me while playing BF1943. I can put TONS of hours into that game, and it's pure multiplayer, three classes, and only three maps. If it was a full game, with a campaign and everything, and in the Halo universe? Well that's just a recipe for success.

Again though, as a spinoff.

Hmm.. i think that the only classes that could be balanced are Spartans and Elites..

There's definitely so validity to this discussion. Some people enjoy class based first person shooters as much or more then the "Oldschool" style of play. Some people just want to change it up a bit. I think that it is within Bugie's skill to make a perfectly enjoyable class based game based off the Halo universe; however, I personal find the Halo 3 style of play much more enjoyable then the Class based FPS. The reason why I would then like Halo: Reach to be a "Oldschool" FPS is simply because if I feel the need to play a class based FPS I go elsewhere. There are fantastic class based FPS already out there, but there is a lack of good "Oldschool" style FPS. This is why I would rather Halo: Reach be the next great "Oldschool" FPS as opposed to joining the ranks of the many class based FPS that are either already out or coming out.
Simply put, the reason I play is because it isn't a class-based FPS and I would love to see the next major installment from Bungie follow the same path. (Plus, its less risk, there's still a possibility that they make a horribly imbalanced game that isn't any fun at all, which is next to impossible if they stick to the Halo method thus far.

-I know what you're thinking, and it's crazy.
-But... what if monkeys really could fly?

I think this thread should stop complaining until bungie has actually given you something to complain about. Or anything at all for that matter. As for now, this game is just a name. Nothing more, nothing less. So if you don't feel that you can't live with the game's name, STOP COMPLAINING!

  • 08.07.2009 2:00 PM PDT

Can I ask who's complaining. On the one side is people who are happy with what they have but are willing to go in new directions, and on the other side is people who prefer things the way they are. There's nothing to complain about at this point.

I wouldnt really like classes, when Reach is going to be an ordinay 16 player bunnyhop game like the previous ones. Instead of classes they should give something like individual starting weapons where you could choose from a given pool of different weapons like SMG, AR, Plasma Rifle, Pistol, and you always start with that weapon when the starting weapons settings are default.

Or different start up weapons for elites and spartans, like spartans get an AR or SMG and elites get a plasma rifle or something. So it brings a slight difference to your gameplay depending on which character you chose, without totally changing the gameplay at all.

I wouldn't bother if they include classes in a game like Battlefield, that is based on the Halo universe, where you play important, bigger battles of the books or something. Maybe this game would be a pure multiplayer-title, in the style of Battlefield or SW Battlefront and the gameplay would significantly differ from the "ordinary" games.

For Reach, I hope that the gameplay stays "traditional", like the gameplay of all previous Halo games developed by Bungie, with a few innovations though

That right there is exactly what I mean. It would be awesome.

Someone suggested no campaign for this? Shame on whoever that was.

But if you just think it wouldnt have a SP just because there's classes... maybe the MP classes would be based on different Spartans from campaign, possibly the player's squad mates.

Well I'm planning a thread to layout step by step exactly what I'd like to see. I'm not sure though, is this the right forum for it? Or is there another more appropriate one. This looks like it might make more sense.

I wouldn't like classes, but maybe just the weapon customisation from CoD? E.g. Different scopes, silencers etc.

  • 08.08.2009 12:08 AM PDT

When you say "branch out" you really mean 'be more like COD'. Maybe OP needs to branch out and play COD, instead of wishing Halo would turn exactly like it.

If bungie makes a game really close to COD (which it seems like they're doing), and they can't make it better than modern warefare 2, the kids who left for COD will stay there, and the REAL halo fans, who have been playing since CE, and allowed this game to make it to what it is today, will probably hate the game.

IMO taking out everything that makes halo different from other games would be the end of halo. I am a huge halo person, but I'm completely ready to jump on the COD train if bungie keeps going this direction.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? I MEAN, SERIOUSLY SERIOUS?

If adding classes would make this game identical to COD, then NOT having classes already has made Halo identical to Quake. And in that case, THERE IS NO "HALO," so changing something wouldn't matter because its already a clone of the games which came before it.

While the guy is an idiot I have to disagree with you. By his uneducated standards Halo is still not a Quake clone. At the time of Halo: CE's release did Quake have melee, vehicles, grenades? I'm pretty sure it didn't and those are huge gameplay factors that completely change the game. Halo just borrowed the concept and added much to it.

A class based Halo on the other hand would feel like a Batlefield clone because it uses the same gameplay concept and the same gameplay elements. Vehicles, melee, grenades, equipment, classes that follow the same set up, etc. There is nothing new Bungie could add to the class based gameplay experience other than a Halo feel and Halo gametypes. Everything has been done.

Shields, Equipment, Forge, Orbital Strikes, On-the-fly Melee, Crouch jumping, Crouch saves, CTF, Oddball, Assault, etc.

Halo would not at all be a Battlefield clone. The same gameplay core would exist for the two, like the same gameplay core exists for Halo and Quake, but the games would play absolutely nothing alike when it comes to melees, vehicles, speeds, health, weapon types, shielding, etc. It would not be a BF clone, it would be Halo on a larger scale with Spartans which act as they did in the novels.

Oh well, its not like any of the people asking for change is even gonna make a difference. Bungie is a lazy bunch (retconning your own game so you can recycle enemies) and they will churn out more of the same. Hell, I even bet that Reach ends with a vehicle level where you ride through a corridor or on a platform while everything blows up around you.

That would be so badass! Maybe your being chased by plasma bombardment and you have to get away on a warthog!!

So basically whaty you just proved to me is that considering how many times I explained that my idea is not like CoD, you went above and beyond my expectations by not being able to comprehend the meaning.

So you're illiterate? And owning every Halo game and playing them since they came out makes me not a true Halo fan. Whether or not you think Halo is the best, only idiots can't see that other games can do at least some things right.

And nice MLG logo. I could've guessed your opinion without you posting.

How about Reach allows custom classes, but also has a few playlists that play 'old school' style (COD4 players should know which playlist I am referring to) that disallow class-based starts, this way everyone can be happy, even though I am one of the guys that would prefer it be not class-based.

How about no? The game needs to be designed around the classic Halo gameplay. Maybe they could have 1 playlist with classes.

What is with you? (Brandon) He just said that there could be other playlists that play like the Halo that we all know and love (aka. Old School.) It is a spin off, not a Sequel/Prequel. If you want a game that is EXACTLTY the same as previous Halo games, stop complaining about the new one and put your head in Halo 3.Anyway aren't new games meant to introduce new ideas?
By the way, it's Bungie's game, not yours.

So stop being so ignorant.

a) You don't know what a forum is.

b) Locking a thread for no reason other than the fact that you don't want to see it anymore is stupid, especially considering the best way to get what you want is to not post in it.

c) Nobody is telling anybody how to make a game.
