Oh man what I'm hoping for is that the armor can be changed and used in the actual campaign which I WISHED HALO 3 would have been like I would have loved to use my custom armor in the campaign. I want to be able to play in Scout armor in the game.

Wow, a thread that makes sense. Though what about prophets. maybe we'll get to play as them?
Sorry but I think that one can be ruled out.

How to spell "space"?

S-P-ACE! SPACE!

Very well thought out thread. I too would be surprised if we were Brutes, but I want the dangerous feel from Halo CE.

Well, it isn't what this thread is about, but I doubt Bungie would do that because they weren't using those kinds of armor. However, one can hope.

This apple is brown, and rotten. This orange on the other hand, is in relatively average shape. So the orange is definitely the preferable option.
----------You can't compare apples and oranges. You're so dumb.

If you read the Spartan II page on Halowiki, theres a little snippet about inconsistencies.

Before Reach is attacked, Hasely states "about two Dozen" Spartan IIs, are attending the debriefing. But she notes, that all of the Spartan IIs exept for three else where (gray team) are at the debriefing. Additionally Halo Wars states, 25 out of 28 surviving Spartan IIs regroup at Reach. This is consistent with FoR.

However later in FoR, and in First Strike its states 30 Spartan IIs are fighting at Reach.

That means, there were more Spartan IIs fighting at Reach, then what should of been possible. 30 fought at Reach, three were else where. that brings us to a total of 33 Spartan IIs.
However it is stated, only 28 were alive.

33-28 = 5. There were five Spartan II that fought at Reach, that didn't attend the debriefing, that technically shouldn't exist. There are five Spartan IIs in that banner.

In the trailer, it appears Spartan 259, arrives after the battle of reach begins. Explosions are already going off on Reach. These Spartans, haven't been directly mentioned in Halo before. They are free agents. A completely clean sleet for the game. And I imagine most of what makes up the game, was never references in FoR or First Strike. I also imagine, this game might explain how Buck fought at Reach. But survived to later fight in the invasion of New Mombasa,

--------

There are two good explanations for these Spartans origin:

1. There was a second generation of Spartan IIs.

2. There were originally 33 Spartan IIs, that survived augmentation. But by FoR, there is supposebly only 28. Five were killed, or permentantly injured. Perhaps these were all cover ups. Perhaps they joined a sub-project within the Sp- II program? Theres a problem with that however. They didn't all occur at the same time. And were far apart from one another.

------------------------

I think the call signs made it obvious. There is a second batch of Spartan IIs, and five of them were at Reach. There were only 150 candidates selected for the original Spartan II program. Only 75 made the cut, and only 33 survived augmentation and became SP IIs.

All Spartan II call signs, before the Halo: Reach trailer fell below 150. Then the trailer comes out, and all of a sudden we have a call sign higher than 200, and another higher than 300? This is also the only way to make sense of armour permutations. The original Spartan IIs definetly never used them. So who did?

Beyond that. We have two works of Halo fiction, both considered non-canon, but neither definetly non-canon. That BOTH state, a second generation of Spartan IIs begin in 2537. With one telling us it happens just a couple months after Alpha company of the Sp IIIs gets wiped out. Perhaps ONI realized the value in having the Sp II, and SP III project run parallel with one another?

I think Bungie put a clue in Ghost of Onyx. Nicoles call sign is 458. We are told the Spartan II project was postponed because of a lack of funding, and because Hasely lacked the nessary amount of candidates.

Meanwhile the Spartan III project, was just in the planning stages. And Ackerson figured out a way to find candidates more efficently. Eventually, the funding intended for SP-II class II goes to SP IIIs.

In the first two companies of Sp IIs, there were potential canidates that weren't used. If you add the unused canidates from Alpha, and Beta company up, you get 465. 465-7 = 458 (nicoles call sign). I think the second generation of SP IIs, capitalized on unused canididates from the first two companies of Sp IIIs.

This is all amazing information, thanks for posting it. I am pretty sure it will focus on completely new Spartans, whom we don't know much if anything about.

Based on that idea I had this idea, what if it is about "you" as a Spartan. Meaning the Spartan you play as in campaign is one of your own creation. You have you own armor set that you can switch and modify based on items you find in game, or achievements, and you name the character and a service tag is randomly generated when you start the campaign or you choose it (randomly generated would have more "in the game" feel to it). It then becomes your story as you participate in various missions either leading from or two Reach (The story either builds up the fall of reach or starts from it and continues on with your journey back to the earth or where ever).

I think this would be an awesome way to approach it and would really pull people into the game. But I can see where there could be complications with it as well. Being that no one would technically be playing the same character so Canon story might be hard.

I highly suggest kickin it old school and looking up KOTOR one of the oldest groups here on Bnet. Be sure to stop in and say hi!

"Lord Snookie"

Maybe we can also play as Spartan wash outs. Those that didnt reach the Spartan augumentation phase or those that couldnt cope with the strain of the augmentation.

Good Post, My bet is on team Beta, it is the most logical choice, though I have to say I like the ONI idea but it is unlikely.

Edit: but that's not to say we wouldn't see any ONI in the game...I wonder where DARE was during the Fall of Reach? And just as a side note, I don't think we'd play as ODST's in Reach, but Why waste awsome characters for 1 small expansion? It does kind of look like an ODST on the right with a sniper rifle.
I cannot wait till we see these characters.

I remember reading somewhere that Dare and Buck had relations in the past or something.
That would be pretty cool if Halo: Reach had those 2 characters in it.

Yeah, it would be cool but I think Bungie wants to stick to canon while introducing new stories at the same time.

The UNSC pays enough to outfit the successes with the MJOLNIR armor, so I doubt they would give it to the failures.

Well I think the Nicole part can't be considered important because Nicole is non-canon. She was just made for a different game and doesn't exist in the Halo universe.

Just enjoy the damn game!
Who cares about BR vs AR

Good work, one of the most thorough posts I've seen on this forum so far. The only thing I would say is Black Team. They are mentioned in an upcoming comic, and supposedly they are an elite force of Ninja Spartans.
Halo: Spartan Black is an upcoming four-part comic series about a team of stranded SPARTAN-II Commandos before the Battle of Reach in mid-2552 . It is set to be launched in December 2009. It is written by Fred Van Lente and will be penciled and inked by Francis Portela as well as colored by Ulises Arreola.
There are 4 spartans in the team, with 1 AI, and i would say the second from right in the banner could be an AI, as she is significantly smaller than the others. But its just my opinion.

Remember to post! I want your feedback to make this a complete guide

  • 08.12.2009 10:04 AM PDT

Remember,
It is easy to be male
it is another thing to be a man.

I hadn't thought about black team. A good idea to include them.

  • 08.12.2009 10:39 AM PDT

Its also possible we'll be playing as a group of different characters. Just because the trailer focuses on Spartans doesn't mean that all five characters in the banner are Spartans. It could be we will see a group of Spartans, Marines, ODST's, ect. thrust together due to the destruction on Reach and losing their squads. It would make for some pretty interesting tactical situations with such a diverse group of character types. Not that I'm saying this is what will happen just a theory.

Also I don't think that the guy on the left looks like a Spartan at all. I know alot of people want to think he's an elite and I'm not saying that but he doesn't fit into the Spartan mold at all.
