Subject: Machete for Reach?

Halo CE would have had a UNSC equivalent to the Energy Sword if it wasn't a time resraint. Here's their chance. It will be exactly like the Energy Sword, so they can just make a skin for it.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

What time restraint? They could've done it in Halo CE, they could've done it in Halo 2, they could've done it in Halo 3. They had the time...

Who knows, maybe, maybe not.

Why would a machete be a one hit kill if the Brute shot melee isn't?

EDIT: maybe it would have a long lunge like the Halo 2 Sword, instant kill with the R trigger, but two hits to kill with the B button (like the Halo 2 Sword), and it would swing faster than the Energy Sword B button melee (but swung like a Brute Shot melee, so around the same strength).

Then the Energy Sword would be like the Halo 3 one. With no clash unless they can make it consistent.

They should be the only two weapons with a melee lunge.

The Shotgun should also no longer be the human melee weapon, because its just a reskinned Sword in Halo 3, or it would be redundant. Make it like the Halo 1 Shotty (can descope snipers at mid-long range if you have aiming skill) with 6 rounds/magazine and a slower rate of fire.

Signatures are for squares.

Can you explain how a blade would cut through energy shields and Mark IV/V armor?

  • 07.31.2009 8:19 PM PDT

Since your shields are weaker, a brute could kill you in Reach with a Brute S. melee. You aim for the neck to kill.

Explain to me where it says that just because the game is set near Halo CE that Bungie must copy every single mechanic and attribute of Halo CE, even if it doesn't match up with their vision of the game?

Oh yeah, and a normal melee does 70 points of damage, a brute shot melee does 72 points of damage, so I guess that excuse fails anyways.

You want a human melee range weapon? Its called the shotgun.

A NON - BALLISTIC human melee range.

I agree with the shotgun part, but technically, according to canon, the shields and armor were weaker than the MkVI. The MkV shield recharges slower, and takes less hits to go down than the MkVI. Just to correct your point. If Bungie didn't match it up with Halo CE to some degree, then it would completely through off canon and the storyline. Of course that is assuming we have main characters that are Spartans, if it's a new set like ODST, then it doesn't really matter what they do with it.

A NON - BALLISTIC human melee range.

Tough.

If you take a step back and look at it, it makes complete sense.

All the Halo 3 melee range weapons are unique in two regards:

1) All melee range weapons kill in one hit at melee range.
2) All melee range weapons have a mechanic that allow users to "catch up" to players fighting them from close range combat.

>Swords Lunge
>Hammers have a small lunge and the Gravity Bubble
>Shotguns do non-lethal damage at close range which can stack up.

To have a Machete, Katana, Knife, whatever it is you people want, would only be a Sword Clone that has been reskinned. It makes no sense since the average human infantry can't really do much with a knife or a machete or a katana against shielded opponents because they are weak as heck, and therefore rely on the shotgun.

It could be for campaign only because all covenant enemies have open flesh areas in their armor.

Yes, but they also have shields. The Shotgun does a good job for the human close quarter weapon, there is no need for a machete.

ok then it would just look cool. it could have salvaged power dran tech or reach scientists could create a formerly unkown plasma weapon (lightsaber spin off) that wasn't in the books.

  • 07.31.2009 8:53 PM PDT

Very doubtful, just wouldnt fit.

I was actually playing Halo 2 today. I liked it, so I'd agree with this. :D

I would guess that in the future they would have made blades better quality or at least sharper.

In the Warhammer 40,000 universe, they use Monomolecular edged blades. Basically knifes whose tips are filed down to a single molecule in width, essentially making them really, really sharp.

  • 07.31.2009 9:23 PM PDT

A machete is a retarded concept in a world like halo's....

  • 07.31.2009 9:24 PM PDT

I guess some people didnt see the Halo Anniversary video. It showed Cheif stabbing an Elite with a machete and the Elite fell to one knee, and kept fighting then died.

Machetes were in the original build, but for some reason, probably the ones we have already stated, got scrapped. In the video it shows the Chief stabbing the Elite with an Energy Sword, not a machete.

in some of the pics he also had it. On halopedia, they said it was not in Halo because of time restraints. That's why the Fuel Rod and Flamethrower are were only in Halo PC.

Not a big fan of blades in Halo. Blades would make sense for an ODST if the could only be used on unshielded opponents. Maybe there could be ODST sections of the campaign. Maybe even an option when playing games with no shields to play as Jackals or ODSTs with knives. IDK or care just something to make other people happy, a compromise if you will.

  • 08.01.2009 5:44 AM PDT

Right. Like a CQB blade that kills enemies with shields down with two hits.

Does anyone even read these?

Isn't that a dagger being held in the banner? I'm guessing that's a use-able weapon.

Educated always wins.

What would it run on, your own self satisfaction, How would it run out what happens when it runs out, and how would it effect gameplay
