Go Rams and Missouri!

I'm just curious. If I made a poll asking if you liked to fight Elites or Brutes, most people would say Elites. I want to know, why do you like Elites so much?

The Halo 3 and ODST Brutes are very similar to Elites. Brutes have shielding, just like Elites. The only difference is that once their shields are completely depleted, the armor falls off, leaving them vulnerable. However, they tend to take more shots to remove their shields. Basically, Elites have less shields but can take cover when shields are down, and Brutes take more shots to take out shields, but you don't have to worry about shields recovering once taken out. The two aren't very different to fight in that sense. Except for Brutes with jet packs. Those are different than anything an Elite can have.

Now, another difference is weapon type. Brutes tend to stray from plasma weaponry in Halo 3 and use their Spikers, Spike Grenades, and Brute Shot. Higher ranking Brutes use Gravity Hammers and Fuel Rod Cannons as well as Plasma Cannons. In ODST, the Brute plasma rifle will return to their arsenal. Elites use plasma instead of projectile and have a plasma rifle, which acts pretty similarly to the Spiker, as well as needlers on occasion. The Brutes have more powerful weaponry higher on because their War Chieftans can use Plasma Cannons and Fuel Rods, and higher Elites just have Energy Swords to improve on their weaponry. Both enemies use Carbines. To sum it up, Elites don't have the explosives like Brutes, but do have more plasma weaponry. Higher ranked Brutes have more diverse weapons than Elites.

In vehicles, Brutes have more powerful, yet less controllable vehicles like the Chopper and Prowler. The Spectre is weaker than a Prowler, but is a lot easier to control. The Chopper is to a Ghost as a Prowler is to a Spectre. Then, both sides do use Ghosts, as well as Wraiths and Banshees.

This gets me to my last point. Brutes are more aggressive than Elites. They will move up in cover if you start to shoot at them, they will look for every opportunity to kill you. Brutes like to pin you down and close in on you. Elites tend to fight at more of a distance, lobbing grenades and taking out your shields. However, should you get in cover, the Elite will not pursue like a Brute might. Brutes can also go berserk. While they have less protection in this mode, they can kill you with only a hit or two on higher difficulties.

So basically, Brutes have more explosive weaponry than Elites at the expense of powerful plasma, are more aggressive, but are similar to the Elites in their shields, and more powerful, yet harder to control vehicles. Are people afraid of more of a challenge?

Maybe its not that We dont like Brutes, WE dont like ELites thus we want to fight and Kill them... But I like Elites more because they were the actual Halo Enemys. Until your Furry Beasts came in and just go crazy whenever theyre armors gone out. Elites are smarter, stay back picking of lazy marines. Brutes However, just run in and Get shot in the head. Dead. I like Elites more because they were the Classic Enemys in the good old game called: Halo:Combat Evolved.

I think you are basically saying that if Brutes were there first and Elites came later, then you would prefer them.

They aren't remotely close to being as fun to fight as Elites IMO

J-H

There is literally one word (repeated three times) that is definitive proof as to why Elites are better than Brutes...That one word (repeated three times) is..."Wort"

<3

They are boring to fight to people because Elites fight more tactically and actually think. When you melee a Brute once or twice their armor comes off and they charge you in the same way every time. Elites work together more so than Brutes. I DO like their different weaponry though.

Possibly Lol.

I think its because in Halo 2 the elites were fun to kill and responded correctly to fire, but the brute were just sponges and had no actual character about them just sat there and went OM NOM NOM dead. Wasnt fun gameplay. I think the feeling still stick with Halo3. Although in ODST the brutes have adapted to the elites moves. In the Nathon Fillin Interview you see one do the elite duck and side step move.

As a great man has said before "..." That is where the truth lies my friends

I didn't read the OP, I know, I broke a rule yada yada yada, but I can flat out tell you that it's
1) Elites bring that classic Notasolgic feeling
2) Elites are more of an interesting enemy, asteticly, a brute looks like something from earth.
3) Elites move alot smoother than an Brute

Me personally, I like brutes, but when they changed their apperance from Halo 2 they lost that awesomeness.

Thanks to Halo 2, we've all seen the Saangheilian side of the story. The emotion. The drama. We can connect to them better. To us? In Halo 2 Brutes were just bullet sponges. In Halo 3, they are big ugly Apes wearing Rhino-like armour that we kill.

I can't argue with that, but I find it more enjoyable fighting Elites. I like them better, visually.

What? Brutes have Jetpacks in Halo 3, that's one game. In Halo 2, you had Space-Elites who had thrusters, which is essentially Space-Jetpacks.

I'd love to be a 10 year old and tell my mom I'm going on an adventure out into the world catching Pokemon, with her full support. Never mind the fact that there are rapists, criminals, and murders out there, or the fact that I may get killed by a Pokemon.

Luckily I have Pikachu.

The Brutes in Halo 3 rarely ever take cover (except for the Gold Chieftans). Brutes were more interesting to fight in Halo 2. Elites overall though were better enemeis, espeically in Halo 1.

GRUNT BUD!!!!!

The thing that bugs me is the way that even on legendary on H3 you can run up to a brute and melee him, he gets stunned you run behind him melee again and hes dead. Thats why I hate brutes in H3 they are too easy to kill even with mythic on there too easy. Its just Halo 3 in general. the brutes in halo 2 were fun to fight as well as the elites but I still like eliets more because they think more tacticly and dont just rush which makes you the larges target in the world.

I am a Halo 3 Failure.

1. The Brute's anger usually kills them, if you kill a pack mate, at least on of them will charge straight at you, without shooting, basically giving you a free kill.
2. Brute's don't use strategy like Elite's do, Elite's stay back and fire, and if you have Plasma Rifle's and Carbine's going past your head, you're going to stay down, and if you don't, there goes your shields.
3. Halo 2's melee was MUCH weaker, so we remember fighting Elite's at a distance, and not rushing up to them, meleeing, then shooting them in the head. You can take half a Brute pack this way, and just stick the rest of them. In Halo 2, it took at least six or seven melee's to take down an Elite's shields, on Easy.
4. Elite's and Brute's use there respective vehicles basically the same, they stay back with Ghost's and Wraiths, they're in your face with Prowlers / Specters, and they're great pilots.
5. Elite's use Energy Swords, and not just one of them in a squad, most of them have swords, but they know how to switch weapons when the time comes to do so.

We like Elite's more because they're much, much smarter then Brute's, and more fun to fight with as well, they give a challenge, where Brute's do not.

Elites in general are just more fun to fight. They (or at least they seem to) use better tactics and make better use of cover. The dodge grenades and melees. They have honor and are in general a more interesting enemy, whereas the brutes act like gorillas and seem too familiar. If you shoot at an elite, it will try to evade the bullets and find cover, whereas the brutes will simply stand there and keep getting shot (as other people have said, like bullet sponges). The hammer chieftains are nearly impossible to kill, so as the player you end up redoing a certain part of a level multiple times because of the stupid hammer chieftain. Brutes travel in large packs, so they are hard to sneak up on, whereas fighting a single elite or a group of 2 or 3 seems like more of an even fight and you can use more stealth if you choose (there is no greater satisfaction in a halo game than sneaking up on an elite and assassinating him).

Overall:
Elites- interesting, fun, exciting, and challenging but not impossible gameplay
Brutes- boring, repetitive, too familiar, and highly varied difficulty between extremely simple to almost impossible

  • 07.31.2009 10:40 PM PDT

The Brute's in Halo 3 are just too slow, and easy too headshot. Also, they have weak melee. Obviously, they overdid the one hit melee for Elite's in Halo 2, which didn't make sense seeing how they have Sword Elite's, but they didn't have to tone it down so much in Halo 3 for the Brutes.
