I have been seeing a couple posts and several websites suggesting that Halo 3:ODST's campaign will no longer be 3-5 hours as originally stated by Bungie when it was announced. Many websites and forum posts have said that it has been lengthened to 6-8 hours (about Halo 3's length). This would be nice considering Halo 3:ODST is a $60 game (yes i know it has Halo 3's multiplayer and maps, but we all already have that. Loyal fans should get their money's worth).

Can a Bungie employee, forum ninja, or someone with proof please clear this up? Thanks.

It definitely has become longer but it may not be up to Halo 3's length. I would say 6-8 hours is about right but Halo 3 was much longer than that. And that's okay. I would prefer a solid 6-8 hours of awesomesauce than a 20 hour long pile of crap.

I don't have prove for my 6-8 hour long statement but I have proof for the shorter than Halo 3 statement. Rest assured the 3-5 hours was a long time ago and the game seems to definitely have grown a lot. Hell, it originally was only going to have 4 flashbacks during the Game Informer Era. It now has 2 more Full Flashback missions. Moreover, the night time city is an open-world with collectible Audio Logs in them. I'm willing to bet that Superintendent Video files as seen in the ViDoc are collectibles as well.

Well I beat halo 3 on easy in like 6.5 hours that day I got it. I'm just hoping Halo 3: ODST will be equal or at least nearly as long. You have given me hope though, I was worried that it was still 3-5 hours. I love how the game is coming along and want to have plenty to do. Thanks for the info :)

Aha see there's the problem. Halo 3 on easy is, in fact, easier than the previous Halo games on Easy. If that took you 6.5 hours on Easy, I would say Halo 3: ODST would take you about 5-6 hours on Easy. But like I said, the city is designed to be its own playground and there are things to do in the city.

Rest assured, even if the campaign, when rushed through in a linear fashion, is shorter than Halo 3's, its really up to how much you put into the game. This time, more than ever before, the playtime of Halo 3: ODST actually is proportionate to how much you put into it.

Well I rushed Halo 3 and did it solo. In Halo 3: ODST, me and 3 of my friends are doing the campaign on normal (not even doing easy). We plan to explore a bit too, so I'm sure it will proabably take 6-8 hours depending on how much exploring we do. I'm relieved though. I wasn't too happy with the $60 price tag considering the fact that I already bought all the maps. Now I'm certain I'll get my money's worth. The campaign looks pretty sweet from what I can see, more awesome than Halo 3's I think.

Which is good. I know the pricing's got a lot of people pretty pissed. Especially, people who have bought the maps. I, personally have bought all the maps myself (Not strictly true. Got Mythic with Halo Wars) and well, I mean, didn't really get pissed off with the price because I saw the justification behind it. But, in these tough economical times, I can see where people are coming from.

That being said, I believe what you plan to do, is the right way to do it. Exploring the city is a game in of itself. I'm personally starting on Normal and doing it solo first and I'll be taking my time. This game is made for exploration I feel.

I understand the pricing, I just wish they released all the maps in a separate disc like Halo 2 did. Then ODST would've been like $40 dollars. I guess this way is easier. One thing I hate is how this game is coming out during school >.<

All the great games tend to do that.

You're lucky in that sense. ODST comes out right before my Final Year papers. I can only play ODST on October 8th.

I bet theres going to be alot of collectables and the skulls are going to be hard to find considering how big New Mombasa isi pursonoly think that the 60 dollars asking price is reasonable considering u get a Srg. Johnson code if you preorder it.

Yeah, I know for sure the campaigns length is around 6-8 hours, depending on what difficulty and how long you want it to be.

Seeing as when I'm going to first play it, I'm going to play as a 4 player co-op on legendary, first were going to complete the game, ( Takes about 9-10 hours judging legendary, and are first time playing) then after were going to explore free-roam, ( About as long as you want it to be)

So I can freely say it will most probably be longer than Halo 3's legendary.

You Shall Not Pass!!!

I haven't heard much of anything, but as it was stated earlier, it depends on how much time you're willing to put in. If you rush through it, you won't be playing it as long who someone who tends to stick around and take a look at things before moving on to the next area. It will vary for most people.

If you go straight through the Campaign, on Heroic, only completing the objects given to you. Yes 3-5 hours.
If you factor in Legendary, Mythic, the 100 Skulls and Terminals and extras, doing certain things for achievements and the like. Then yes, it will take much longer.

  • 08.01.2009 2:16 AM PDT

I hope it can atleast be 6 hours.

  • 08.01.2009 2:18 AM PDT

My troll sense is tingling.

I heard in an interview that the flashback missions alone are longer than Halo 3.

in a recent interview in france, Lars Bakken stated that it's more or less the lenght of H3 campaign (even if it depends on the player who plays it)

I think that the open world aspect of the game really makes it hard for people to judge campaign length.
For example, my brother is going to blast through it as quick as he can, heading straight to missions, and avoiding anything that might hold him up.
I, on the other hand, will do my best to see every inch of texture that Bungie created, and will probably mess around with the improved Brute AI.

So basically, I'd say there is going to be easily a couple of hours either way of the official game time, because everybody goes about stuff in their own way.

I'll probably end up playing like you. I always explore the environments Bungie create and New Mombasa is like a Gold Mine to me.
