Subject: Keep Reach the maincourse, sidedishes and desserts come later

Hi,

first off, I'd like to say that I prefer you read first and then reply. replying only to the title is unnessecary. you would probably say that I hate CoD, Battlefield or whatever that I played halo only since halo 3 etc.
all of that is false.

lets begin with the actual thread:

Every 3 years Bungie gives us a new Halo game. We had Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 and next year we will get Halo: Reach. These games form, in my eyes, the mainline of the Halo games.
The gameplay is great! everybody here would probably agree with that.

Halo is one of the most sold/played games in the world and should therefore not change too much. just like battlefield and CoD they are great games many people play and are they changed so much that the gameplay is totally different? no!

Halo is quite the opposite of CoD:
Halo has free weapon pickup and you run/jump/crouch/drive/fly wherever you want without being stuck to certain places where you can duck for cover. In CoD it's the other way round. You're stuck to the weapons you choose before you get back to life and you shouldn't run around spraying your gun as in Halo, no, you use cover and accuracy.

Both games are great and attract different kind of players. you don't like one of them? who cares?? just play the one you like!

why change Halo into CoD? that would only mean that the Halo fans wouldn't have a game anymore they love, right?

What about change Halo a bit, so it is more like CoD? maybe add coversystem or just add a class system?

-_-'

why would you?
We already have games which are kind of mixes between Halo and CoD (They were not supposed to be it and are great games themselfs!! no offense here!)
-Battefield: it's like a colourful CoD. It has a class based system and it's human vs human and with realistic weapons, but with more colours like in Halo.
-Gears of War: It's like a gloomy Halo. Free weapon pickup fighting against aliens with some strange weapons, but with a coversystem and less colours like in CoD.

All four games are great on their own! and I've played them all and enjoyed them all.
Battlefield is still battlefield and not much want that to be changed.
CoD is still Call of Duty as it should be, but set in different times. still not much if not nobody wants it to be changed.
GoW has only two games yet, but probably stays the same. I never heard anybody complain about the way it plays.

So, why are there so many people in this forum complaining about the way halo plays??
why do you want it to be changed into something darks? something with a coversystem or classes?? Halo is great the way it is.

there's enough variety in games, great chance that one (or more) of these four games will perfectly fit with you.

every year a CoD game is released, once every 3 years a Halo game is released. (with exception for this year, two halo spin offs: halowars, halo 3 odst) and there are many battlefield games! 1943 and heroes are just released and bad company 2 is coming in about half a year.

just saying that the people who really love halo get less to chew on than the people who love to cover behind a destroyed car and like to be stuck with weaponsets.
SO let that little bit to chew on have the same taste.

There's enough space for different spin-offs like another Halo wars and Odst. It probably only takes some time until something like Halo battlefront is announced. there's enough space and time for the aperitif and the desserts, just let the main course taste the same!

Thanks for reading :P
Greetings,

Icy

Subject: Reach should stay in the mainline of what Halo is

A lot of people on the forum have been giving their own wacky ideas like "OMG CAN REACH HAZ CLASSES LIEK COD?" or "AIRSTRIKES PLZ?" I love cod but I also love halo. I switch between disks everyday. I still like it when bungie takes risks with new things. (ODST LOOKS SHWEET) But when its so drastic that the gameplay is too similar to another game then thats lame.

Oh btw, you can pick up enemy weapons in cod.

with odst they actually created something new, but put in things which were older too. it fresh, but comfortable at the same time.

odst was only going to be something extras, but is quite an alone standing game now.
it was to fill the gap between their games.

Halo Reach should be something more into the direction of the previous halo's and not something too new like odst. maybe it's like odst... could be cool.

Hmm. Or probably a mix of both? that would be awesome too

CALL OF DUTY IS NOT A REAL CLASS BASED GAME.

For a better example of what a class-based Halo game would be, judging by the physiques and stances of the Spartans in the banner, you would be better off looking at Team Fortress 2 for an example of classes which all have different speeds, health amounts, etc. so that the weapons they start out with are balanced out by both their strengths and faults as characters.

How many drummers does it take to change a lightbulb?
-one to hold the bulb, and one to turn his throne (but only after they figure out that you have to turn the bulb).

Dont you mean Team Fortress 2?

you make me smile :D

I never played TF2...
CoD uses classes and is more well known than TF2, it was just an example of a great game with classes. there are enough games with classes and coversystems, I don't want to see that happen with Halo: Reach!

a spin off, which could be something like starwars battlefront may have classes that's great but just not the real halo's. a change like that has too much impact on the way the game is played.

COD is not a true class based game. Real class based games, like Battlefront and Team Fortress, have different classes which are all very unique, not simply the same dude with different guns like in COD and Battlefield.

The way a class based game could work is if the classes are based off of the specialties of some of the main Spartans in the novel. Left to right in the banner (its obvious that the ones in the banner aren't the ones in the books, but the new Spartans appear to have similar specialties)

Sam - Support - heavy weapons, supporting
Kelly - Recon - quickest, stealth
John - Soldier - jack of all trades
Will - Engineer - close range, electronics
Linda - Sniper - long range, scout

Support spawns with a heavy machinegun and rocket launcher. He has lots of health and shields, but his shields regenerate slowly, and he cannot move fast or jump high. He can heal other players (no more regen. health standard) and can give them ammo reloads as well.

Recon spawns with silenced weapons, the SMG and Pistol from ODST. She can use camo for a limited time, but is very weak. Very quick, but not with much stamina (cannot sprint for long).

Soldier spawns with an AR and a BR, and can carry a larger amount of ammo for whatever weapon he picks up. His health automatically regenerates like in Halo 3, and his stats are all midway, allowing him to be decent at everything, like the Master Chief was.

Engineer spawns with a shotgun and rockets. He is very weak, but has a powerful shield, and is the only troop to have melee lunge. He has low stamina (cannot sprint long), but his rockets have tracking. He can not hold much ammo.

Sniper spawns with a sniper rifle and a scopeless pistol. He has a long range weapon, but at close range he is very weak. He has low motion tracker range and high vulnerability to fall damage to demote camping. Has the most stamina to help move from perch to perch, but is not above averagely fast.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

I totally agree, ODST and Wars are Spinoffs, so they are ALLOWED to play with the formula, and be totally unique to the series. Halo Reach should be Mainstream Halo, and MAYBE a new spinoff will come out later (MMO? Class Based? Racer anyone? How about Halo Madden 2K10?)

No....classes.....

someone who gets me :P

@Cheewhawa

I know what a class based game is, CoD does use classes and maybe battlefield was a better example (since that game uses classes you kind of described)
I just used a game everybody knows and many people seem to want halo go more like CoD....
( and many people, like me, who obviously don't)

Not everybody knows Team Fortress, so not everybody would know where I was pointing towards to.

You may feel a bit offended, in the way I don't like your ideas, but that's not true!
Your ideas are good, but they can better be used for a halo spin off than for the actual main games in the series.

Like Fos Tis Krisis said: "ODST and Wars are Spinoffs, so they are ALLOWED to play with the formula, and be totally unique to the series."

There are plenty of spin offs to come. what about halo legends? (not a game, but a spin off)
thats the third spin off this year!

Well Halo REACH is a story about new Spartans, so I would consider it more of a spin-off (I doubt it will have a sequal).
