Halo 1 and Halo 2 had something called "momentum melees". Basically melee strength was determined by if you standing still, running, or jumping. Standing melees did the least amount of damage, running did more damage, and jumping did the most amount of damage. Usually in gameplay this meant that standing and running melees were three hit kills, and jumping melees were two hit kills. It also affected the objective items (Flag, Oddball, Bomb) in that standing and running melees were two hit kills, and jumping melees was a one hit kill.

In Halo 3, for whatever reason, momentum melees were not in the game. Why? I don't know. I'm not going to comment on Halo 3's current melee system.

What I'm proposing is that momentum melees should make a return in Reach. I'm not sure if Reach will use Halo 3's hit point system so here's how it would be:

Standing+Melee= Three hit kill
Running+Melee= Three hit kill
Jumping+Melee= Two hit kill

Thoughts?

I would like that. Maybe make standing melees 4HKs, running 3HKs, and jumping melees 2HKs.... just so standing and running are different.

Standing+Melee= Four hit kill
Running+Melee= Three hit kill
Jumping+Melee= Two hit kill

This would just be the average. I think a jumping Brute shot melee should be a 1HK and rockets(large weapons in general) should be almost a 1HK.

That was in Halo 2 (For the Brute Shot), not sure if I liked it or hated it, but it definitely was useful and unique.

I think that the Halo CE Rocket launcher was also 1HK with a jumping melee. Weak melee weapons would usually be faster.

Don't get cocky now!

it shouldnt be 4 hits though when standing still.... more liike 3 unless they integrate different hitboxes for meleeing them in the head (would be 2 head melee to kill with standard fist...ie holding plasma pistol)
obvoiusly different weapons would do different weapon depending on the general weight of the weapon and if its 2 handed or not. for example a shotgun / AR / battle rifle would do more damage than a pistol / plasma pistol / smg melee).

Bladed weapons liek the brute shot would do more than the shotgun / ar... and a bladed pistol like the mauler / spiker rifle would do more than the pistol / smg, but be less than the shotgun / ar / br.

the SPNKr would do just as much as the brute shot for it's sheer size / weight, as would the fuel rod gun (custom games)... then you get into the sword / hammer which would be at the top of the list (duh) but the hammer only doing max damage if the actual hammer end hit the enemy (not the gravity blast).

The sword would be instakill with lunge, but regular slash would not be instakill, just stronger than the brute shot. The sword should be the only weapon with a melee lock / lunge.

All other weapons shouldnt have any aim assist/ lock on just like in Halo: CE.

I don't think so, then again I haven't tested that sort of thing for awhile.

That would be expected, but they like to work in Hit Points (HP) variable from weapon to weapon,
That up there would probably be from light arms weapons, easier kills from bladed weapons and heavy weapons.

Well, maybe the amount of actual damage they do is different, but the end result is same, a three hit kill. I don't know if they'll use the same hit point system from Halo 3, so I can't get really specific.

I don't care if they are momentum based or not, just get rid of the obnoxious heat seaking lunges and bring back Halo 1 melees

Yeah I did put average. Brute shot should be definitely be a 1HK jump melee and it would be very hard to land.

I think as well as momentum melees, they also need to add first-hit melees. I hate stupid ass newbs who just rapidly press b-button when i clearly hit them first and they somehow kill me.

That and client side hit detection.

Yeah, I'm not too fond of the "who has less health, loses" system. I don't understand why it's in LAN or Local play either.
