First of all, this was shown at E3, and was not leaked, as it is present on several websites around the net.

Alright so, the ODST are not told of their mission at all. In fact, during the drop, their pods "Adjust trajectory" meaning they are moving away to wherever Dare needs them. This is already known. What I don't get, is where. On the Holo-table there is a layout of the city and the orbital elevator. Now, by comparing the drop and the map, I can't see any place they'd be dropping other than to the elevator itself. I'm now physics major, but by looking at the way the Rookie's pod angles after getting it, he's angling toward the city. But It doesn't seem like the rest of the squad is headed there. So where are they going?

Feel free to criticize and speculate.

The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space--each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision.

I think it was just for effect. As for where they were going, well after the slip space rupture most likely everywhere.

Go Rams and Missouri!

For your reference, here's a better quality version.

I've got a feeling that Dare needed to get down to the ONI Alpha Site or some special Naval Intelligence place. I think with the parachutes, they would have landed there, but it ends up that the carrier made a slip-space jump and they all crash-landed all around the city.

That was my inital thought, but looking at the table, that would also be closer to the city.

When Buck responds to Dare's comment on them listening, he says, "[They listen] to me, and they aren't going to like what they hear." Also, the squad minus Buck and Dare were looking at the ship, they didn't know they were going into the city, unlike Dare, who took over as leader.. Remember, Dutch picks up the Silenced SMG and Romeo's says, "Seriously?" Dutch responds, "We're gonna be close-quarters." Romeo then takes a shotgun, but Buck walks by, gives a small speech, and gives him a Sniper. This implies that Buck learned where they were going to drop.

Halo: CE Anniversary Achievement Idea
C-C-C-CANNON BREAKER!
Let Sgt. Johnson die on Halo.

Honestly, I think they're heading towards the ONI Alpha Site. There must be some VERY important intel inside that Dare doesn't want the Covenant finding.

Perhaps Dare doesn't want a new person in on her mission...Buck trusts his squad so Dare trusts them but Rookie is new...So maybe she specifically gets his pod guided away from the others to stop him from compromising her mission.

By a random burst of EMP? Not probable.

But his pod changes course before the Slipspace Rupture.
