Subject: Uses for Natal in Reach

Ron Artest on personal goals left in the NBA.

Q:"NOW THAT YOU'VE WON A TITLE, DO YOU STILL HAVE ANY PERSONAL GOALS IN THE NBA?"

A:"I would love to get back to first-team All-Defense. I own defense. It's like my corporation. I'm the CEO and everyone else is just an employee. The fans and players know I belong. When you need a stop, who you going to call? Not the goddamn Ghostbusters, I'll tell you that. You call me."

I will start by saying that IF Natal is going to be used in Reach, or even available by then, I have a good idea for what it could be used for. Bungie could consider creating an entire 'Machinima' lobby if possible. Now that being said, this game will be intended for all gamers and not just one subset. I'm not a machinima director myself, but this could be cool. You know, actually having complete control of your player character. While signed in to your profile, you could press up on the D-pad and have natal turned on, so your Spartan or Elite is fully controlled by your bodily movements. That being said, some of you might see some flaws in my idea, so feel free to contribute them. Comment and discuss.

PS. Sorry if anyone had an identical or similar thread.

Although I think that this is never going to happen, I think it would look hilarious in matchmaking, when some guy sitting on his sofa presses the "natal-button" and his player character sits down, partially floating in mid air
Would be great for taunts

Would be sweet use in custom games for some crazy tea bagging or much more variety to machinima.

I'd prefer it if Natal would be optional and that it would be used in conjunction with the xbox 360 controller. You could do your normal fps thing with the controller and maybe reach out to the screen to plant charges or whatever.

More on the taunt/teabag/victory dance thing. You could pre-record your thing, or multiple things, and assign them to d-pad buttons so you can do different taunts/teabags/victory dances.

If you ever try and fail.....erase all evidence that it was you who tried

I can just see this happening.
Oh my god Timmy what are you doing!?!? Are you -blam!-ing!?!?!?

Why? What makes this more important than the other threads?

Back to the subject at hand, I really don't think Natal could be used for anything other than menu navigation, a redesigned forge, theater, or some new feature I can't think of off the top of my head.
I really don't think there's any feasible way to control your character with natal from a first person perspective considering how difficult it would be to turn, jump, use a scope, or even just run.

No matter how many times I forget about this place, I always get dragged back.

I'm more than okay with that.

Custom Crouches. Add your style to the Lipton Dip.

Theoretically, Natal could work very well for FPS games. There really isn't a problem with implementing this system into Reach. When you mention turning, jumping, running, are you saying it is impossible to do these actions on Natal?

Impossible? No, just too wonky to be effective.
Having full body control with your character without the use of a controller (the OP didn't mention using one, so neither will I) wouldn't work for turning given there's really no easy way to do it without looking away from the screen.
Most big team games have a time limit of twenty minutes. I don't know about you, but I'd rather not be jogging in place for that long.
Jumping would just be annoying, especially for someone like me who has a limited gaming area. More than likely I'd get a face full of wall at least once a day.

Think outside the box, but here are my solutions to these problems. I think they work out pretty nicely.

Have small actions magnified to larger actions by your character. Make yourself turn 30 degrees and your character will continue turning until you face forward again.

You don't have to! Just have Natal target a hotspot on your floor where you are standing and when you move forward toward your t.v. your character will continue walking or running (depending on how close you are to your t.v.) until you move back to that hotspot.

Jumping would just be annoying, especially for someone like me who has a limited gaming area. More than likely I'd get a face full of wall at least once a day.
You don't need to jump. Just make the up and down motion and your character will make the complete jump.

Point(s) taken. But that still sounds like it would be more trouble than it's worth.

Ugh...

First on a BWU.. yeah, I'm cool.

ODST;MYTHIC Screenshot winner! One of the first to get their hands on the mythic map pack.

IF Natal is used, it will be for voice commands probably. But then again, you probably could use a mic for that.

Yes, I know. Unfortunately right now the Natal system is limited by the television and your room which has limited space. You can only see the game you are playing when you are facing it. I would like the next VR system to create a digital environment all around you, but that's too far off. As far as I know, these are the only ways to implement Natal into an FPS.
