Whatever! it doesn't even start, it starts to load to access the menu, but it doesn't load it, nothing, it gets minimized and this pop up and then close the program.

Hmm... I really don't know what is happening, I've had the "Gathering Exceptional Data" error when one of my maps on the folder were corrupted, but that only happened when I tried to play on Ice Fields

Now, in the quantum moment before the closure, when all become one. One moment left. One point of space and time. I know who you are. You are destiny.

"Gathering Exception Data"*** for you kiddos.

Let there be CHAOS!

Have you changed any settings for Halo in your graphics card's control panel? And have you installed any new hardware in your PC lately?

That's precisely what I was going to ask.

"Gathering Exception Data" means that there was a problem reading the map you are trying to play. That might be a corrupt bitmaps.map file or sounds.map file or the map file itself, like bloodgulch.map. This could also be related to preference files saved by Halo PC. A new software install might mess that up sometimes. A reinstall should fix all your problems. You do not need a new copy of Halo to fix this.

Yes, I am a hypocrite, and I'm sorry. I really do mean well, but I'm not running on all cylinders.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

It could be corrupt save games. Try moving or deleting My Documents\My Games\Halo.

That is highly doubtful. The save game files do not cause exception errors, these errors are caused by reading game data.

Oh, sorry. Was just a thought since the crashes are persistent even after a re-install.

Hmmmm, it is a thought. I just don't think so because Halo has a safeguard system that says if it cannot read the saved game file then it will prompt to create a new one or erase the corrupt one and start it new.

You might also want to have a look at reinstalling DX9 and make sure that is ok. Normally you will get a "Gathering Exception Data" when you have a bad map file which can be easily solved with reinstalling. I don't know if you are running Vista or not, but see about disabling the feature of file restore, because it might be restoring the corrupt map file and resulting in errors across different installations.
