I feel stupid. I was suggesting something that you already suggested.

:(

most Xbox 360 games use trueskill. Halo 3 is simply one of the few who use it as a comprehensible number instead of an invisible one.

I know. It's invisible. which is what I'm saying to do here.

Sorry. Im used to idiots complaining about trueskill "because no one else uses it" and assumed after reading the first two paragraphs that's what you wanted.

Ummm, well how exactly would people be matched together? Are you suggesting that all matchmaking would be done on exp? The number of second, third and fourth accounters that just do it to beat unskilled players would increase exponentially.

again, read the second half. I made that mistake the first time. Play it like Call of Duty. Trueskill in the background, XP in the front.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

Something like... 50 points = 1 EXP point

+20 points for winning
+5 points for MVP
+2 points for a kill
+1 point for an assist
-0 points for losing
-1 points for a death
-4 points for a betrayal
etc.

With modifiers, such as "was the kill a headshot?" (and if it was, its +3 for the kill instead of +2) or "was the kill a killjoy?" (and if it was, its +3 instead of +2). I would like that. This way, even if you don't win, if you do the best in the game you can rank up.

I would still like to have the EXP be visible, though, maybe a new system where your current amount is listed as well as a little bar underneath that represents how many points you need to get to the next EXP point. The military ranks are cool, but need to be re-worked along with a new number ranking system.

Well, not new, but working. I would like for them to re-introduce the Halo 2 number ranking system. You're bad at level 10, okay at level 20, good at level 30, amazing at level 40, and a pro at level 50. Now when you're going against a 50 you can't tell if they're good or bad because its so simple to get them now if you just have the time/team.

Quixoticelixer might, but I probably will not fix your bike.

idk...i kinda like how halo's skill takes skill to get. I'm a lvl 40ish in halo and gears....gears cause i play a lot and halo cause I'm as good as 40's are

something about quantifiable skill makes me happy :)

Putting trueskill in the background is best I think, though we may see an increase of "omg general iz too easy to get all u hav to do is get 1 kill per game and lose for 200 games and u g3t it" threads, its worth it to get rid of all the troll's favorite topics here.

Want Coup? Here it is for Chrome.

How about if you needed won ranked games to replace tru-skill? Such as win 1800 ranked games and have 2100 exp to be a general? I think that would be a great replacement to the tru-skill system.

Recruit - Win 1 Game, Get 1 EXP
Apprentace - Win 3 Games, 5 EXP

And so on, Until you get to a general.

I hunt for the Prophet of Contentment, the San 'Shyumm that murdered my son, and stole his birthright, his Energy Sword. They call our species Heretics. They claim to all that our tongues sting, our words a vile poison that feeds on the unworthy. I have seen the true face of Heresy. The head of a gallant warrior lay on the ground. His neck scorched and blistered, scarred by his own blade. I shall retrieve the weapon, and drive it through that bastard's heart! Punishment for his sins is nigh.

Only one issue, the worst player in the world can become a level 100 on Gears of War, and the same goes for CoD, and level 60s, this is because Points ONLY Accumulate.

There needs to be a way to keep the poor players at a low skill level. Trueskill has some extent right. But the problem with Trueskill is that the rate at which your rank moves slows down. If from the start, your rank can go up or down at a set speed from level to level, becoming harder to increase as your level is higher, and easier to increase as your level is lower. I think a Balance could be found.

The Accumulation of all wins and losses doesn't work, it needs to be a SET amount per-level.

I am the hand of fate!

Good idea. Make it completely based on what you said and only have trueskill to match people up. I get so tired of the stupid second accounts and trueskill rankings. Just make it all invisible like it is in Social, and make the damn game enjoyable again.

Without visible ranks, people feel no problem with quitting. In Halo 2, Training had invisible experience and people left as soon as they started losing. This doesn't happen in Halo 3 thanks to the visible experience in Social.

So kind of like what Rainbow Six uses? I like it, that system made it fun to actually be able to rank up.

Oh, GOD, I would love that. RSV (despite the fact I barely play it) has one of my favorite ranking systems.

"What's the last thing a dead backseater ever hears from his pilot?"
"Watch this!"

Despite what most people think there is nothing wrong with the Trueskill system, people just don't like the results therefore they claim it is broken, ahhh the cycle of society not being able to take responsibility for their own shortfalls.

You can't kill what's dead.

Stand. Fight. Resist. S2F.

So you mean something a little like CoD4? A point based ranking system? Well, I agree with that. The system should keep your K/D in account as well. For instance, let's say you went -1, you would loose 10 points from your overall score for that match, but if you went +1, you gain 10 to you're total.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”
