Good good. Much better than Halo 3's current ranking system.

Interested in making a team for ranked team games? Send me a message if you're around my level.

I really hope something like this isn't added. Halo doesn't need to be dumbed down even further. I've heard Halo 2's ranking system was a lot stricter but fairer (note that I'm only saying I've HEARD this) so if this is the case Bungie should revert to this.

What Reach needs is a ranking system that takes a consistently long time (maybe the amount of wins needed to reach the next level would increases by a few percent with each level gained) to level up or down in rather than quick ranking for high sigma and slow ranking for low sigma.

Seeing as Halo 3 has such a large population is should fill out each level bracket fairly easily, as well as making the earlier levels easier to advance and the later levels extremely difficult to advance.

I like the idea of the kill to death ratio as a big part of the ranking system.

Think about it, it's very challenging, but if you get a +5 you get 50 points, but if you go -10 you lose 100 points.

Maybe not that harsh of a ratio, but you get my point

If would keep the n00bs at low levels, but the skilled players would rank up quickly!

I partly agree with this but then there wouldn't really be any ranked gametypes

No matter how many times I forget about this place, I always get dragged back.

I'm more than okay with that.

Without visible ranks, people feel no problem with quitting. In Halo 2, Training had invisible experience and people left as soon as they started losing. This doesn't happen in Halo 3 thanks to the visible experience in Social.

An interesting point. Perhaps this can be avoided by simply disabling the standard exit function. Thus, making it a chore to retreat.

A la Lost Planet, I assume, where dashboarding is your only means of exiting the game.

Something like that, yes. The system should be able to detect the difference between a quit and a disconnect.
Couldn't you just unplug your router to simulate a disconnect and cheat the system?

its all about the K/D ratio

I feel that my idea of a ranking system works better than this. 5,000,000 XP is too much to reach the highest rank. Plus, you shouldn't need wins to obtain a rank.

Well, not new, but working. I would like for them to re-introduce the Halo 2 number ranking system. You're bad at level 10, okay at level 20, good at level 30, amazing at level 40, and a pro at level 50. Now when you're going against a 50 you can't tell if they're good or bad because its so simple to get them now if you just have the time/team.The current trueskill -> visible level function is not set in stone. It could easily be changed to fulfill your wish in Reach.

It might cause some ruckus if it was used for matchmaking, in which case using the visible skill for mathcmaking could simply be removed. That might look strange from the outside point of view, though.

But this is a bit unfair for an objective player who might go -10, but capture all 3 flags that game. I'm like that. I'm not solely into just KILL KILL KILL because that's not my forte. Things like flag running, however, are.

The fact that anyone will be able to reach "General" is just stupid. If im not mistaking, this is just a sorry excuse for someone who cant pass level 30. (im not pointing my finger)
And trust me, there is no such thing as a "rank lock", i was a colonel grade 2, then a brigadier grade 3 and then a general grade 3.

This is just overcomplicating everything, Bungies current rank system is perfect. You dont have to be a 50 to be a general in a playlist and you gain exp by winning, its perfect. And if you are ashamed of your rank then maybe the best thing bungie can do is to give the player the option to make his true skull hidden to others.

In my opinion this idea of yours is just plain call of duty with some sparks and the only thing i hate about that game is its rank system where anyone can reach 55 just by playing a lot. No, thats just not halo.

Im not bashing you or anything, I completely respect you and the time you put into this idea but again, in my opinion this would destroy halo, a lot

Ohai, I'm Loscocco (pronounced Loss-cocoa). I'm a college student (computer science major), 3D animator, and long-time Halo player.

Honestly- My opinion.... NO....

Making the system like this doesnt show who is good and who isnt... If the system was like this- it would say that staff captains are as good as generals.... There is something wrong there.

Rewarding someone for each kill is bad because a player that is incredibly unskilled could be the best rank for dedicating a very long period of time put into gameplay, but sucking at that....

In other words, turn Halo's ranking system into COD's.

Bad idea. All you've created is a rank that tracks time played not skill. If anyone can get the highest rank then it's pointless and doesn't show who's actually good.

It won't happen.
