You dont know that it would be too laggy. Just because I suggest it, doesnt mean Bungie would implament it just like this. And if it doesnt work then Bungie wouldnt include it.

Not just that, you discredited yourself in your own statement

we have firefight

Since we are able to have so much together in fire fight, why wouldnt Bungie be able to work this in?
There are not costant enemies, they are limited to a certain number each round.

And at higher rounds, those enemies, weapons, dead enemies, and pieces of enemies far outnumber the object that are on our maps right now. You are NOT A PROGRAMMER, you can NOT say it would be laggy.

Not only that, but you have provided no reason why it would lag. With no reasoning or examples, it makes it your opinion. Opinions have no effect on how things play out irl, only facts do.

In my opinion, if you are going to include AI in forge you might as well make them act similar to those in campaign. An enemy that runs along a predetermined track over and over again holds little interest for me, and although it could doubtless produce some entertaining game types, the possibilities are exponentially greater when one introduces a more advanced path and AI system. The system I propose is not so immensely complex (indeed, it is not far from yours, merely one step further) as to be unusable by the average player, but I think it would strike a fair balance between capability and ease of use.

And I believe that Bungies references to bots being "impossible" were limited to the halo 3 engine, as it would require restructuring from the ground up to support AI in multiplayer. Reach is utilizing a new engine, so this impossibility may well no longer hold true.

No we are not programmers, and yes, all our opinions are based on experience rather than knowledge.
But what makes us so wrong about the speed of the gameplay and you so right? You aren't a game programmer either, so none of us apart from the game programmers have the knowledge to judge and evaluate the speed of the game. So lets just leave it at that.

Great idea, though it probably would never happen.

Being able to create your own firefight scenarios would be awesome.

If I were your I would run your post through a spell check, I spotted lots of mistakes.

Ossoona is an 'eye of the prophet' who is basically is a spy for the covenant. You only see him in the Flood Book.

Proud member of the 7th Sanctum Clan

i like your ideas, very well thought out, however waypointing every AI would be a nuisance, instead, all waypoints could act like teleporters, you set the waypoints around and link them together, then on the AI you set which waypoint path to follow

so path 1 would be a set of like 10 waypoints and the brutes are set to follow it
and path 2 could be for jackals so they patrol back and forth
path 3could be for a hunter pair to patrol your base

and so on and so forth, build the path, then assign the AI to that path

I'm not saying your idea wouldn't be a great addition to this idea, in fact I would like to see A.I.s that could, in some sence, think for themselves. I mearly state it is "impossible" (to my knowledge) because I don't know enough about the new AAA Engine to say that it is.

I would love to see an option that combines both of our ideas, and allows players to set "forked" pathes, and the A.I.s could determine which would be best to follow.

Despite my lack of knowledge on the new engine Bungie is utilizing for Reach, I do hope they choose to implement your idea here, as it does look very promising. As I said, the only thing I would prefer to be different is the option of a single "mega path" that the AI can use to navigate an entire map on its own, instead of a set one way path that it has no choice but to remain upon for the entire game. I agree that a combination would be very nice to see, perhaps with your combat zones for specific map areas in addition to my multi pathway suggestion. I can see many very interesting forge maps being produced with such a system, and I dearly hope Bungie at least chooses to implement your idea in some form.

The AI Coordinator in firefight is going to be exceptionally complex, and reach being the newer game, it would have a more advanced Coordinator. The coordinator could 'coordinate' the units in this forge-firefight to, if they are set on that function, run on a certain pre-determined path, with many different paths, randomly directing the units down one path allowing for a different gameplay every time, Similar to valve's Left 4 Dead 2. Except Better.

What no one seems to realize is that this is very possible. There are many games with bot systems that work, and this even makes the "bots" simpler than for example those in Gears of War 2, seeing as they will have a predetermend path to travel.

To make the "bot" actions more "eratic" (not erotic, read it again) there should be an optional rout for the "bot" to travel, say 2-5 optional routs per "bot".

The reason some people would think it would lag is because; There would be many "players" / "bots" on the map, but what they don't know / understand / realize is lag is caused by NETWORK error / delay / poor conectivity. So the "bots" would only lag if they surpass the competance of the console (wich it should not, unless you add 25 "bots" while playing a 8 v 8 match).

Also there are lots of characters in campain, prolly around 40 all at once in some areas, not once has that caused my 360 to lag.

I really liked this idea and i think it is most absolutely possible.

I think you should go for it OP.

A very good explination. I just wish someone who actually thinks it would lag, could post something that actually makes sence. I just can't take anyboyd seriously if the entierty of their proof is "just trust me on this."

Go Elites!

I am all for this idea, but i don't think it should be in matchmaking. Matchmaking is to put players against other players not AI's. It would be great to customize your own minilevel. If they don't want to put this on Reach then they could make another game disc independent from Reach and call it something like Halo:FE(Forge Edition). I'm sure that if we get enough people to ask Bungie nicely, they will eventually cave to the desires of their fans who helped them take over the world by spending so much of our lives on their awsome games.

Well I think that you should forget the Accuracy section, because it goes by the Health/Rank section. Also, there's no such a thing as perfect accuracy because we, who play the game, are so big pile of different variables, and it would not be possible to hit every time, for example, A.I. is using Plasma rifle he has range setting of infinite (I think that he will shoot you when ever he sees you.). In this case plasma rifle has Unlimited range, but the plasma shots are still going so slow, so it's easy to get out of it's way. So there's no way of having perfect accuracy. Otherwise, good work. :)

To other business. I think that it would be easy to add A.I.s to Halo: Reach forge, if there is a forge in Halo: Reach. Parameters are everything that matters.

By perfect accuracy, I mean they will always be aiming right at you. Obviously it is impossilble to have every bullet hit, but if the gun is aimed at you for every second possible, your gonna get hit quite a lot.

Last Refuge - Operation Phoenix is in effect. From the ashes, we will rise.

Customizable enemies.... I'm sorry but that just sounds ridiculous, even in Forge. I like fighting against other people, different kind of challenge every time. Customizable enemies.... Eh....

No one is saying you have to use this. If you actually took the time to read this thread and some of the posts, you would realize that this would be an optional addition that could add many benifits to custom gameplay.

I know that it'd be an optional thing, I'm just saying that Customizable Enemies is not exactly what I'm interested in. Although it could be useful to help in machinimas and the like. And yes, I have actually read this thread.

Who is this crazy darkpig guy anyway?

I have no doubt that AI would be possible but why should Bungie give that much power to the players, we are not the programers. If we could make our own courses and our own enemys what would be the point of buying another game? We have been lucky to have a forge option and I'm just speaking from the business point of view.
