I voted No simply because from what I know about programming it is very hard to take an object model, like an elite, grunt, brute, spartan, or marine model and turn it into an NPC without complex scripting so that it can follow an infinite number of paths that the player has set up for it and fire on any player that is not on its team...Until you can provide PROOF. Hard proof, that it is easy, and does not require complex scripting to do the things that are part of your idea, my vote will stay no.

I do not claim to be a programmer. Other games/companies have managed to create complex bots that function on their own. If it is possible for a bot to search for, recognize, and then shoot at a player, who does not have any pre-set responses, I believe this is possible.

Either way, this thread is NOT about if it is possible, even if others try to make it so. Its purpose is merely to put an idea out into Halo community. If Bungie sees this idea and likes it, they WONT CARE if forum users think it is possible or not, as long as they see a way of doing it.

Argue to make it a better idea. Ultimately it is Bungie who makes the decision of "possibility."

7/1/09 Bungie Favorites- RECON Devil
9/9/09 Bungie Favorites- Champion
5/22/10 HaloCharts Favs- Prey

the only reason it's impossible for Halo 3 is it wouldn't work in a DLC, it game coding wouldn't fit, but I don't see why a next gen halo, like reach couldn't make this work

no too glitchy and laggy....we have firefight to fight people together

Mm..no? If what you're saying was true, Firefight would laggy and glitchy.

It's pretty much Create-a-Campaign. I like the idea.

Wasn't this idea hinted at when Bungie released that thank you video some months ago? That was before Bungie totally shot it down.

Yes, please.

Placable AI would bring a whole new level of play to Forge maps. I could see people Forging their very own custom campaigns, and if falling short of that, simply adding AI into the mix on some mini-games would be very interesting!

I want this in as an option to see what I can do with it, and what others can do with it.

So...Yes, please.

Are you serious?
Laggy?
Ever played squad battle?
Because most SQUAD BATTLES I HAVE BEEN TO HAVE 16 PEOPLE AND NO LAG!
I support this objective 200% and it could help people make Machinima's if they can't find people to cooperate with and it could help make Screenies, films, and lots of stuff.

Don't other games have you play against A.I and computer characters? And programing? Not to sound arrogant but Bungie can take all the time they want. I really do believe it isn't THAT hard

Yes other games do, however, they also dont have the kind of player customization Halo does. I do think my idea is possible, but if implemented, we can't set our expectations too far.

For Christ sake, Perfect Dark for the N64 had a pretty advanced AI. I don't see why Halo: Reach couldn't.

I think we can set our sights as high as we want. Reach is a new engine and a new game. Bungie has made huge strides when working with new games, and I bet they can do this better than anyone has before.

I think it is human nature that we let out minds run wild with expectations. I'm not saying they won't do a good job, I'm just saying I don't want to get MY hopes up.

Please post when you vote. For or against, I would still like to know the reason.

If there wasn't, it would be a VERY bad move on Bungie's part.

I mean this the mother-blam!- last game bungie is making this better have much work put into it...Like I'm just saying it..They should like delay the release till like 2011 to work on some more..Because if this is really the last bungie made halo game it should have much work put into it.

Yes. Instead of scripting the enemies, you just draw out a path for them to follow. You can either close the path, and make it loop, of you can make them go from point A to point B, and maybe back from point B to point A.

AI's don't have complex scripts to begin with. Normally, they have a simple code that basically tells them:

Find and try to kill the player while avoiding obstacles.

The only time when AIs are truly scripted in a complex manner is in campaign when the development team wants AIs to follow a certain path, etc. every single time.

But in forge the only script that would be needed would be:

-Shoot enemies
-Follow preset path

While I am not a programmer, I know how it works, and there is no reason for this not to happen.

To the OP, if need be, feel free to quote this in the OP so people can stop making up lousy excuses.

OP - You're a dumbass with the reading comprehension skills of a second grader.

Can someone tell me what's wrong with these two, this made me LOL hard.

I want this idea to happen, if it's possible.

Nooo that makes halo a silly game, Halo doesnt need the bot sistem

  • 08.14.2009 9:58 PM PDT

Thanks for all your support, especially TW InKoGnIto.

I was getting tired of all the complaints about lag. Just because I post this idea doesn't mean Bungie will be forced to use it if it causes lag. Right?

This was just a suggestion because if it was infinite it could, in fact, cause lag. For the reason that bungie put an item limit, I am placing this as an A.I. limit. If more could be put in, I would obviously support it.

i like it but i think that the 360 is WAY underpowered considering how much halo 3 lags in the 1st place....... it could work on a new platform, i sugjest that it has a dedicated graphics card with 2 gb mem(if your wondering the curent xbox has a totol of about 512mb for the card and RAM) and 5gb RAM, with a processer thats maby a quad core 2 ( 2 processers with 4 cores;= to 8 processers) with blueray-dvd drive, games being blueray type(like the ps3) backwards compadable with 360 and ornginal games, bulit in blue tooth, usb, firewire, eithernet of corse, opinional bulit in wirer-less, virrus pertection, web surfable, and either a water cooling system or a tower fan like fan (to pump out massive amounts of air) i and many other people would probly be terafied at the price but for our sake i will not give my estiment......
