It is what it is.
My real gamertag is Boomerf16.
I've been doing a lot of thinking recently and I've come to a few conclusions about why ODST will be a huge hit and truly a great addition to the Halo franchise (even though it probably won't sell as well due to the decreased hype compared to Halo 3). First off, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the previous Halo games but ODST will definitely bring a refreshing change. Firefight mode will (kinda) make up for the lack of multiplayer but, overall, I think the campaign will be a much more immersive experience than any other campaign Bungie has made.
The main difference will lie in the similarities it will have to Halo: CE's campaign where you're on your own but, more than that, it will finally give the player the chance to completely imprint him (or her) self onto the character. I've always felt that it's important for the players to be able to define their own experiences in the game and really get an intimate sense of what the story means to them. This has, so far, not been a huge focus of Bungie games and will represent a subtle yet monumental shift in Bungie's storytelling dynamic.
Furthermore, the different art direction looks truly incredible. Even though there hasn't been a huge revamp in the graphics engine (due to it using the same basic game engine) the destroyed city of New Mombasa is going to be truly breathtaking.
Overall, this game is going to be huge and absolutely incredible for it having taken only a year or so to be developed. Despite what all the naysayers have been, well, saying, this will end up being a must buy game for 2009.
