If this game is all about the Spartan's Battle of Reach, that means it'll be a short game. What's to cover? The generators falling, the other team retrieving Admiral Whitcomb, the wounded team escaping / defending the base entrace, taking down the Covenant carrier, and the battles in the caverns. Fighting for the generators and the battles in the caverns sound like the only fun parts that Fall of Reach could have turned into gameplay. Those all happened in First Strike... but what if we will play through a story not yet told?
We don't know what happened to Beta at the generators. Fred and Kelly were knocked down by what he believed was an EMP wave after they see two Covenant ships nearing the generators. Beta was still in posession of one of the two FURY tac nukes, so Bungie could easily flesh out their story to say that they used the FURY on the Covenant ships, possibly to cover the retreat of 5 of the Spartans (S-259, -320, and 3 others? The Spartans in the banner?)
And from there it would be an entirely new story. (I used Beta because it was the only team with at least 5 members in it who weren't all crippled from the fall to the surface).Yes, that was First Strike, but it was all still the Battle of Reach.
Assuming that we never heard from those Spartans again, it seems likely that they all died defending the generators. It seems highly unlikely that they'd survive a nuke going off. Even inside of a Covenant ship, that'd be a HUGE explosion. Enough to flatten a Nascar track, the parking lot, and a large area around epicenter of the boom.
