Subject: Mickey the leader?

Well he at least holds the higher rank. Not sure how it works in any of the American systems (which I imagine the Halo one is based upon) but over in the UK a pilot is always an officer. Whereas Buck is a Sergeant - an NCO, aka the lower rank of the two. Is he just doing the sensible thing and giving the guy with the leadership control and experiance command - as any butterbar with any sense would or what?

Of course they both answer to Dare I'd presume - so long as she's alive/in contact with them, still.

Go Rams and Missouri!

Dare was promoted to the leader of the squad, Buck is next.

  • 08.03.2009 3:01 PM PDT

Erm, Mickey is the lowest ranking ODST.

EDIT: Yep I double checked and this is definatly true.

Erm, Mickey is the lowest ranking ODST.

I'm gonna check this in the field guide but I'm pretty sure its true.

He's a Private Grade 2 (Or at least a Private).

  • 08.03.2009 3:04 PM PDT

Mickey is a PFC Private First Class

  • 08.03.2009 3:06 PM PDT

Huh, so the pilots aren't all officers. Things really have changed in the future.

  • 08.03.2009 3:08 PM PDT

As far as I'm aware, Mickey isn't actually a pilot.

Private grade 2 is a halo 3 ranking, not a real one...do you actually base your knowledge about military rankings off a video game??? wow, loser

What was said is that he's capable of being a pilot -- he perhaps has the reflexes and the training. There was no confirmation that he has ever been a pilot or that he currently is one. Just that Buck thinks he's smart enough to be one.

Dare assumed command temporarily.

  • 08.03.2009 3:21 PM PDT

He actually was a pilot, I remember that being confirmed. Don't let the ViDoc throw you off! Perhaps his pilot rank only applied when he was in the Navy, when he joined the corps perhaps he had to start low again.

"Mickey LOVES being an ODST. More than he did being a pilot. More than he did being a crew chief on a Pelican gunship. He is no stranger to battle and has a fair number of notches in his belt, but he is unique amongst his ODST brothers in that he has never seen absolute ruination visited upon a human colony-world by the Covenant."

Dare, being an ONI officer, was given command of the squad. Buck would be second in command.

You don't go from the Navy to the Corps. That just doesn't make sense. He was a Marine pilot then had his own Pelican. He later volunteered to join the ODSTs.

Mickey isn't a Pilot though...although he was.

Ooooh, this seems very likely. I remember reading something about how when you pass selection and join the SAS you start as a private. Well hi5 man, that'll be the answer.

I get that Dare assumed command, I'm not questioning that. She's a captain or something right? and ONI which I imagine gives her de facto command over these guys.

  • 08.03.2009 3:30 PM PDT

He's not a pilot, buck merely states "he's smart enough to be a pilot."

EDIT: I stand corrected. According to the field guide at least.

Sorry, I can't hear them over the sounds of Modern Warfare 3 on my Turtle Beaches.

I think it goes like this (highest to lowest):

Dare
Buck
Romeo
Dutch
Rookie
Mickey

Pilots aren't all officers here either. You don't need to have gone through OCS or an equivalent program to be a pilot. Besides, Buck's the highest rank that we actually know.

He used to be a pilot. But since he's joined the Marines or Navy (Dunno which) he starts at the first rank again and has to rank up again.

  • 08.03.2009 3:37 PM PDT

You can think of the ODSTs like the British SAS. You have to be a Sergeant or greater to join the SAS, and when you do, you start off at their lowest rank, Trooper. So you do start all over. The same can be assumed for the ODSTs. They are both "volunteer," but you are still hand-picked from that volunteer pool.

ODSTs are Marine Corps only.

Still, if you are an officer, and then are moved and do have to restart, you wouldn't lose your officer status. So as I said before, you don't need to be an Officer to be a pilot.

That is true. Crew Chiefs are generally Petty Officers/Sergeants to Lieutenants, in which case, Mickey would have kept his seniority if he was an officer.

Vrrin Vrrin, yeah here I come.

private is the lowest rank, and it is certainly not higher than a sergeant. your a retard.

and of course he is not the leader, buck is! haven't you read the updates?

this is the end of the /thread.
