Subject: Halo : Reach Needs...

A ranking system not based around TrueSkill. Instead, the ranking system needs to be based on Call of Duty or Gears of War. It would make the game much more enjoyable. They could keep the TrueSkill but I think the ranking system seriously needs to be revamped to make it one of the best online games and many more people will play it. Anybody agree? I'm serious about this too.

I had a dream that I was king, I woke up still king.

Good idea although I think it should take 50 XP to become a Recruit. 30 XP seems too easy.

Nooo this isn't Call Of Duty. I like the current ranking system.. it separates the skill more than COD does.

On COD you can play a 10th prestige but who knows how good he is? He could just be a no lifer.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

I say don't include a ranking system. Base teams on K/D ratios. Bungie has all the stat-tracking, it could work.

What I'm talking about it this: Ranks make people stupid. People will pay for accounts with a General symbol on them. There's also boosting, account hacking, and false egos involved with ranks. Also, people discrimate against rank. "Generals are jerks, no Brigs are, no Colonels!" People will look for any reason possible to be a bigger idiot than those before them.

I say, drop ranks and go back to Halo 2's old system of just a playlist rank. Throw in team balancing by K/D ratio and it could possibly work out well.

I have never quite understood why people want this. It's an arbitrary rank, getting 5000 exp in your system means nothing other than you have played the game for X amount of time which is different for differently skilled players. Games that use this type of method usually have two things in common, One is perks related to rank, which I personally disagree with, and the Second is usually achievements for reaching said rank.

With the old system that Halo 3 had where the only way to get a general was to get a 50 it meant something to be a general. With this style of system again all it takes is time and nothing more. Why would I want to show how truly nerdy we all are by being all generals in an EXP only based progression system?

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

Absolutely not. CoD is a fun game, but that ranking system is terrible. You only have to play a lot to go up in rank. I'd prefer a version somewhere between Halo 2 and 3's.

Here’s what Luke had to say about the differences in treatment between the Spartans and Elites in Reach:

“Instead of piece-by-piece customization like the Spartans, Elite customization is a full model swap with models selected from the various Elite classes appearing throughout the Campaign. There are all kinds of reasons for this, not the least of which is our continued emphasis on the Spartan as your identity in Reach.”

GoW and COD both use truskill.

I speak the truth, and truth speaks itself.
The lies disguise what you despise.
Run. Flee and be, what you've always dreamed.
What happens now won't matter later.
What you see will not be, nor what you imagine will not happen.
The end is close, so take your dose.

I like this better.

On Halo, you just have leeching noobs who only get exp by going afk in the middle of a game and leeching off of their team.

  • 08.03.2009 8:11 PM PDT

I hope most of you people realize I want the TrueSkill system to remain but you just need XP to level up. I also plan on the making the higher ranks require an immense amount of XP but not too much in order to reach ranks. Pretty much like Halo Wars but not requiring so much XP.

The trueskill system should be redone.

I think that, instead of giving only one experience point per won game, Players are awarded ffa style, so that MVP gets, say, five exp, the next best gets four, down to one for large games. Although the current ranking system encourages teamwork, it'd be better if the shining players got more exp than those who dragged the team down.

Wins also need to be rethought. Currently, the winners are the ones with the most kills, wouldn't it be nice if the players who can't play as well as the better players didn't award as many points to the other team as players who are extremely good? This might cause people to intentionally play badly in order to have an advantage, but it would be nice.

I like the CoD ranking system, but it's not for Halo.

I agree, though, that the ranking system should be rethought.

Good idea but the ranks would be reached way too fast (you could become a Private in a single game).

It may seem easy at first but now look at the XP required to go from a Lieutenant to a Major. It will take time and skill to get a 5 Star General quickly.

"They let me pick... did I ever tell you that? Choose whichever Spartan I wanted. You know me. I did my research. Watched as you became the soldier we needed you to be. Like the others you were strong and swift and brave, a natural leader. But you had something they didn't. Something no one saw but me. Can you guess? Luck."
—Cortana to John-117

I like this system alot better that the halo 3 ranking system...
To tell the truth, I don't like the halo 3 ranking system- it focus to much on skill with in turn means how much you play lone wolf...

Also, I can only see one big problem with this system... Which is teamkilling for the flag to get +xp.. or teamkill to arm the bomb for xp which totally destroy's your attack/defence...

Otherwise I like and support this idea 110%.

Edit-

To fix this teamkilling problem.. You lose say 50xp for teamkilling... and then minus 100 or up for getting booted.

Nay. Most of us here should know about noobs who boot people because of accidental betrayals. I was owning, getting high kill sprees, and some noob stepped in front of my gun and got killed. I was booted. It happens all the time, to many people. No -exp for being booted... That, or the game needs to become smarter and figure out when betrayals are accidental or intentional. Maybe track how long the person is aiming at the teammate and shooting at said teammate.

And who wants the ability to turn off friendly damage? (wouldn't that be so wonderful for griffball?)

It could be a problem if you lose a lot of points for betraying and even more for booting. Negative EXP boosters would betray 2 people and get booted to lose a bunch of EXP. Bungie would need to crack down on this a lot more.

  • 08.03.2009 11:11 PM PDT

I have always thought that exp should be something you earn in a large amount, with more opportunities to get exp not just one point per game

  • 08.04.2009 12:25 AM PDT

Alright, I finished the chart. Tell me what you guys think.

You can't kill what's dead.

Stand. Fight. Resist. S2F.

Somebody already thought of this, I just don't remember where. I like it. I hate the TrueSkill way of ranking. You can win a hundred times, but not go up in rank, othewise known as Rank Locked. I like CoD's and Gears of War's approach to ranking up. You get a mixed game of different skill levels, which may sound bad, but works out surprisingly well... in fact, MUCH better than Halo.
