Subject: Halo 3 and Halo 3 ODST Question.

Does anyone know if by any chance the two games are going to be on the same server for matchmaking? It would be very vital information for me, because I can only afford to own one of the games and if they are on the same server then I would be more likely to buy ODST. Please let me know asap. : ) Thanks!

...Love, love is a blind man's game, you have to look around to know where you are...

Whats that supposed to mean?

Check out the group, Planet Reach and talk about Bungie's next game without the annoyance of the public forum. Oh and it's nice there too.

You thought you had lag, it took Jesus 3 days to re-spawn.

Halo does not use servers. they use a P2P configuration.

And besides that, the multiplayer aspect is the exact same. The second disc is Halo 3 multiplayer only. If all you care about is multiplayer, then ODST is the one you want.

Okay so they second disk is going to be Halo 3 with all the maps included already and that's it right? Okay and the first disk is the campaign and whatever?

ODST includes 2 discs.

Disc 1- New ODST campaign, firefight, theater and Extras (where you access the Reach beta when it goes live)

Disc 2- Halo 3 multiplayer (only multiplayer, no campaign) and all 21 maps released thus far, plus three new that are exclusive to ODST.

Alright and last question... so you can't download the new maps on Halo 3 once the game comes out?

Hitman- Yes, any achievements tied to Halo 3 multiplayer can be earned through the second disc. it's still the same multiplayer.

And OP if your talking about the three new maps included in ODST, then no, those wont be on marketplace as far as we know. Just like the 3 mythic maps recently released.

Bungie hasn't said anything about that.
You might be able to, but it might only come with ODST.
If Bungie says they want to, Micro$oft can still refuse to host the map pack as DLC on the marketplace if they want to squeeze out as many pennies as they can.

sig goes where?

As far as the maps being on marketplace, I'd presume they'd do the same as what happened with the first set of Mythic maps and Halo Wars, being exclusive to that game for about a month before being released on the marketplace.

Forget what I said about P2P and servers.

The second disc is your Halo 3 multiplayer on its own disc. Nothing will change at all. There is no matchmaking on the first disc.

whats the point of buying a new game...if you get something you already have???
a disc of halo 3???

thats lame all you get is three new multiplayer maps and a new campaign???

forget that man!!! ill just rent it two months after it comes out...cuz i know it will be close to impossible to rent it right away when it comes out.

this forum really helped me out...i "was" gonna buy it...
lol but not anymore

ill wait for REACH in 2010

I could be wrong, but I think you guys are missing something here. ODST's 2nd disc comes with every DLC halo 3 map, including 3 new ones, but NOT the Halo 3 Multyplayer game itself.
If anyone remembers Halo 2, they released a stand-alone disc about 2 years after the game launched that had every DLC map on it. It was a way to get the new maps to players who did not have LIVE accounts.
As far as I can tell, the ODST bonus disc will be the same, but with 3 brand new maps that nobody has yet. If you don't purchase ODST, you can still download these new maps on their own.
So, how will this work? When you buy ODST, you put the 2nd disc into your X-Box, and it will copy any Halo 3 maps you don't already have on to your hard drive. Then you take the disc out, and you will never need it again. To play Halo 3 multyplayer with the new maps, you will need to put your Halo 3 disc into your X-Box as usual.
Once again, I could be wrong, but it makes sence to me that they would use this system since they did it before and it worked great.

That is incorrect. All of Halo 3's multiplayer, including matchmaking, is there. With all maps on disc, you have access to all playlists and you save hard drive space (and you have access to 3 maps that won't ever be available to download). And you play with people who are on either disc, so if you are playing Halo 3 and I'm playing ODST disc 2, then I could play with you, just not on the new maps exclusive to ODST. Forge and Custom Games, as well as Theater, are also there with no changes in function.

Do you have a source for this? You could be right, but this doesn't make sence to me. This means that if I'm playing Halo 3 campaign, and then I want to switch to some matchmaking, I need to take out my Halo 3 disc and put in ODST's 2nd disc in order to play all the maps? I can't see a why Bungie would do something like that.
