I always liked the idea of different Spartan suits performing differently. Like "hulk buster suit" that can take more damage, move slower, and can rip off turrets, or like a "stealth suit" with medium speed, maybe radar jamming...dont know about camo though, or like a light infantry suit...less health, quicker on foot...I always love the idea of different armors accessing different abilities and playing differently. What do you guys think?

So you mean. The Spartan Armor Permutations in Halo 3 but with different functions?

Well, almost like the logo for reach. There is larger armor for the "heavy lifting" maybe increased melee damage or smaller armor units for recon and ground work. Why have armor permutations that don't differ in stats? Just wishful thinking I guess.

If you don't know who I am, the feeling is mutual.

I always never find myself liking this idea because of Call of Duty. With so many perks and options, I always imagined that people would use a playstyle that suits them (Appearantly everyone is suited by a M16 with a red dot scope and Stopping Power).

When I think of different armour having "perks" I always immediately think "Someone will realize that one armour perk rules all and will A) that armour will be condemned for harbouring Satin or B) Be "skilled" armour and be used by everybody." For example, one suit might make you faster, but the one that soaks up damage can destroy it.

I always like the idea that everyone gets a fair chance, regradless of experience and how long they've been playing.

True, thats why I like Halo actually...we all start with the same stats, weapons, health, and we then see how creative you can get with what you got. It has a very rock, paper, scissors feel to it.

But that reach logo got me to thinking about the suits of armor...it's a thought I've had since halo 2.

Well.... Call of Duty isn't a real class-based game. For a real class-based game, you can't customize how your guy playes. You play preset classes, like Battlefield or Battlefront games.

Judging by the sillhouettes in the banner, the game may in fact be class based, but with different classes having more depth than just what weapons they have (as in BF), but things like speed, strength, etc. (like in Team Fortress 2). Bungie could pre-balance the classes and not let us customize them, so they would be balanced.

Left to right in the banner:

Support. Moves slow, has lots of health and strong shields, but the shields recharge slowly. His melee is more powerful (can hold the B button for a one hit kill) but is slower. He has powerful weapons which are largely inaccurate (Heavy Machinegun, Rocket launcher) and can heal other troops.

Recon. Moves fast, has little health and shields, but the shields recharge fast. The melee is weak but very fast. She has active camoflage which she can activate/deactivate, but it has a long recharge time. Her weapons are silenced so they don't give her position away, but the silencer makes them have less stopping power.

Soldier. Your bread-and-butter soldier. Would handle a lot like the Chief in Halo 1, except with regenerating health like in Halo 2/3 (the only class with regenerating health). He spawns with frags, a battle rifle, and an assault rifle. A very flexible class with no real speciality... like John-117.

Engineer. His shields are weaker than the Soldier's, but regenerate even faster than the Recon shields. He has more motion tracker range and his rocket launcher can track targets. He is a close range specialist, so he can hold the B button for a one hit kill melee (uses a combat knife for extra power). He has a Shotgun and a Rocket launcher, and can repair vehicles.

Sniper. A little more sturdy than the Recon troop, and in turn a little slower as well. The Sniper is very limited at close range because of the low health/shields, a slow shield regen. rate, and a small motion sensor radius. The Sniper could be rebalanced so that its firing speed would be about equal with the recharge rate of the Engineer shields (maybe not the firing rate, but the time it would take to level your shot back out from recoil). This class would be most vulnerable to fall damage, to prevent camping.

It still doesn't seem that easy to balance. The Support class seems like a blundering bullet sponge, with recon sounding like an unstoppable monster. Besides, the good people of these forums are 117% likely to go out of their way to complain about how one class is too strong and needs nerfing or how another is perfectly fine, but needs laser vision anyway. That's how it always is on the WoW forums.

It just seems easier to balance nothing and keep the armour all visual.

That wouldn't really be fair because the Support would be a larger target with no bonuses, while Recon would be a smaller target with no drawbacks (if the sillhouettes in the banner would in fact be MP classes)...

i think it might be cool if it would be balanced enough and the armors wouldn`t be unlockable

The idea is a very good one but thats kind of the same as imposing classes upon Halo's gameplay. Im sure everyone has seen the arguments over whether a class system would be a good idea but it would change gameplay and therefore change Halo. it may seem like a small additional thing but it would affect multiplayers hectic action packed feel very much so.
