I think so. But I'm not suggesting time travel, I'm suggesting that maybe the H3 Legendary Ending was actually not MC, it was a teaser teaser for Reach.

I'm really tired, so let me know if I'm making absolutely no sense. If so I'll update tomorrow.

I think you are really tired.

The Master Chief was at the Halo 3 ending, and the planet was most likely NOT Reach.
Reach would be a smoldering orb of glass. The planet that the chief viewed was, in my opinion, Forerunner in look and had evidence of technology and/or civilization (not ruin).
Furthermore, Bungie has stated before that they do not like the idea of time travel so it is unlikely that the Chief went back in time to Reach.

I believe that the planet at the end of halo 3 was onyx from the book "Ghosts of Onyx"

I personally think that Bungie is lying ( just like how they said they were don with the halo universe after odst) and that they are working on halo 4.

Look... I'm on bungiepedia!

The planet in the legendary ending looks nothing like Reach, so no. Halo 4 will probably be made, just not by Bungie. With the way Bungie butchered the gameplay in Halo 2 and 3... I say that's good.

I doubt this, but it's possible. During the time of Ghosts of Onyx, though, the Chief was off fighting the rebels, not on Onyx, at least so I remember.

The events of that book also occurred before those of Halo 3.

The planet seems forerunner to me.

Ugh...

Halo 3 legendary ending planet was most likely Onyx. (IMO)

The planet in Halo 3's legendary ending had a bunch of lights that made up forerunner symbols.
Onyx was a forerunner planet that was made up of trillion of sentinels. This wasn't evident because organic material covered them.

But when the spartans and Dr.Halsey went into shield world one of the spartans set off 2 nukes on the surface, or near the surface of Onyx destroying most of the organic material revealing trillions of sentinels that made up the planet.

(correct me if I am wrong)

Anyways, the Halo 3 legendary ending planet is most likely Onyx. It fits perfectly.

The lights that make up forerunner symbols on Halo 3's legendary ending planet, and Onyx being a forerunner planet made up of trillions of sentinels.

He means it may be the Dyson Sphere which the Spartans ended up in after Halo 2. The portal to it was located inside the core of Onyx, but it was displaced elsewhere in slipspace. It could have dropped out of slipspace from some anomoly within, or possibly even from the Ark's destruction.

I'm just stating the fact that Bungie would not use time travel, thereby lessening the possibility that the planet was Reach if the ship had the Chief in it.

"They let me pick... did I ever tell you that? Choose whichever Spartan I wanted. You know me. I did my research. Watched as you became the soldier we needed you to be. Like the others you were strong and swift and brave, a natural leader. But you had something they didn't. Something no one saw but me. Can you guess? Luck."
—Cortana to John-117

It will not be reach...

Besides, the planet looks more like a forerunning planet or construct.

Also, Reach is quite a ways away from the ark. So, it would be pretty much impossible for the cheif to end up there. Even with short slip space jump.

I opened this thinking "oh god not another one of these," but i kinda understand the misconception. But it's really MC in the ending. But it is kinda strange that they'd have a mysterious legendary ending, then years later make a similarly designed advertisement for Reach...

John is really Kelly in disguise. All I'm saying is that John was on Victoria at the time.

Reread the description of Onyx in the book.

The book also mentioned that there were no stellar systems are other significant bodies in the region. Some type of gas is clearly visible near the planet. This would have been mentioned. Honestly, though, not enough detail is mentioned with this.

The typical flood music that was played during that ending, however, suggests it might be the flood homeworld.

Halo 4: Flood, released after Halo: Reach :)

Master Chief and his daring escape of the flood homeworld, and his fate. Cortana nearly captured again, more graveminds, and a planet made completely of the flood. All one giant organism, out to eat everything and make them into zombie-like creatures...

I say the ending of such game would be, hmm, Master Chief finds a way to use the thrust power in his suit to reach escape velocity and become free of the planet, but has to leave cortana behind (or accidentally drops her) due to weight. The chief then is found by a random covenant exploration vessel, which then glasses the flood homeworld and returns the chief to earth.

Edit:

Now that I think of the dyson sphere idea, I believe it's possible.

I think the planet in the H3 ending would be possibly Threshold (the planet that is orbited by the original halo ring) since it looks like the last level of H3 seems to take place on the first halo ring.

Onyx was relatively close to Earth, though, and the Ark was around 250,000 light years from the Galactic rim (the whole galaxy is 100,000 light years across). I doubt its Onyx because if those were Sentinels, wouldn't we be able to tell they were Sentinels?

I think its the Dyson Sphere which the portal in the core of Onyx led to.

We know that Delta Halo going into standby caused the Sentinels to mobilize and the core to open and close, so its possible that when the Ark was destroyed/disabled, the Shield World exited slipspace... at least temporarily, and the Chief floats by.

Ok I haven't read all the posts so I don't know if someone has already said this. REACH people is the Beginning. Where JOHN became SPARTAN 117. As well as a couple hundred other spartans. Reach falls to the covenant BUT what people don't know is that NOT ALL THE SPARTANS ARE TRULY DEAD... A small team of Spartans survive the glassing so the statement in all the games where the Chief is the last of his kind isn't a true statement. Reach will be an amazing game I know bungie is going to do something awesome with this one.

i think bungie just isn't done.

like a retired athlete. they just cant stop, even if they tried.

I would love to see a 4th halo, but i also love seeing these stories in the halo world.

like the animatrix. stories revolving in the universe of the matrix.

i hope they make a story trying to find the master cheif. maybe an ODST 2: finding 117 or something.

  • 08.04.2009 12:05 AM PDT

That would be something that bungie will really have to consider. I think that they should send a rescue to the beacon that Cortana started at the end of Halo 3

Exactly. I think that the Halo 3 Legendary ending wasn't actually for MC - I'm pretty sure (by the general shapes, the sun, etc.) that the Halo 3 Legendary ending was another teaser for Reach, we just assumed it was MC because it had the ship.

And for the record, I went to bed right after I posted that. I'm recharged.
