******THIS THREAD ID NOT ABOUT IF YOU WANT CLASS BASED GAMEPLAY IT IS ABOUT A COMPROMISE IF THERE IS CLASS BASED GAMEPLAY******

If you don't like to read skip to the quote on the bottom.

First off I don't like the idea of a class based Halo but I don't deny there is evidence to support Reach may be just that.

The biggest problem with a class based Halo is the death of custom games. How do we play zombies or rocket race when we spawn with classes? Sure we could use classes that partially fill the required role but that would just feel like a wannabe version of the gametype.

Another problem is that many fans don't want the class based gameplay.

Here is my idea.

So the game is built around class based gameplay. All of the weapons would be excessively balanced so no class has an advantage in every situation. I cringe at this idea but it is most likely inevitable. The game would most likely play similarly to Battlefield but with a Halo twist. The gameplay would support the classic Halo gametypes. Oddball, Slayer, Territories, KotH, VIP, Juggernaut, Assault, Infection, CTF, Race all playable in a class based environment.

Then there would be an optional mode called oldschool mode which would play like the old Halo. Weapons like the rockets, sniper, shotgun, etc; would all receive a boost in effectiveness and be placed on map. Player starting weapon would be decided by the gametype. It would literally be what we have had for the past three games.

There would be one problem with this, matchmaking would most likely be based around the new class based gameplay mechanics. Sure there would probably be an oldschool team and FFA playlist but I don't think that would be enough. So I think there should be some kind of a custom game search feature.

With this everyone would be happy. Well mostly happy, the oldschool players would slightly get ripped off but there is nothing we can do about that its Bungie's decision,

TL;DR Version: I don't like class based multiplayer. I think Bungie should make an oldschool mode if Reach is class based and add a custom game search feature so oldschool players can find games.

You are lame...

There is no debate, just a bunch of stupid kids who think they know what would be good for Halo. I have yet to see how classes could add any sort of enjoyment to the Halo franchise at all.

Your'e actually very wrong. I hate the idea too but look at the banner. Your'e in denial. I know its a shock to think Halo will be classed based but it most likely will be. Oldschool mode would at least keep the Halo we know and love alive.

if it is class based as in depending on your role you were given a sniper or explosives or medical equipment like in the books where blue team split the equipment e.g kelly had the medical items and sam was given some explosives and the team leader (john in this case) ordered them whereto put explosives and when to use medical items then i would agree with it

Did it ever occur to you (or anyone) that the banner may have some meaning to the story line. Like they're may be five different characters while you, as the player, focus on one of them?

Yes but there is also a chance that it applies to multiplayer and you can't deny that. He completely dismised the fact that it is possible.

There are definitely character in the banner that could fill the class role and I doubt a campaign would contain class based elements and not the multiplayer. I don't like the idea but that doesn't mean I will just deny the possibility.

How is there even any evidence that Halo:Reach will be class based? I haven't seen a Bungie employee say it or anything, it's just wild speculation. And the banner is just explaining that for the first time in the series you will fight alongside other Spartans against the covenant.

Anyone who thinks that the banner absolutely proves that there will be classes needs a serious reality check. Why would Bungie switch to classes randomly? I say we wait and see if there is any actual proof that there will be classes before we go around throwing arguments left and right.
