Same goes for Halo 3 with all those custom game options. The numerous gameplay combinations are almost unlimited.

Are you kidding? Halo 1's multiplayer? What multiplayer? All I remember is just local multiplayer with only a few custom game options. Halo 2 did better with Xbox Live multiplayer and ultimately, Halo 3 beat all of them with it's new and improved matchmaking system as well as tons of custom game options, the map editor Forge, and Theater Mode. Halo 1's multiplayer gameplay options don't even have half of what Halo 3 offers.

You'd think the amount of times we told you to leave the Halo PC forum and stick to Halo 3/ODST/Reach were you belong. Of course Halo didn't have those feature its the first -blam!- game in the series. Really as Halo 3 being one of my main games to play on my Xbox, I really only play it for Multiplayer. When I first got it I played the -blam!- out of campaign. Multiplayer lacks balance. The maps are half a memorable as the ones you find in CE. Lanning is alot more fun then playing online with the assortments of little kids and "gangsters" playing online. Anyone that has participated in a 16 person Halo Lan game has had a lot more fun then playing online.

I love the entire Halo series, Halo 2 being my favorite of the games. I think that the universe is compelling and the story is deep, sweeping, and powerful. The hidden layers in the Halo trilogy and rich details of the backstory in the novels are something I love to be lost in, and im greatly looking forward to the story that Halo: Reach will weave. Bungie has carefully and lovingly crafted a mythic tale that will stay etched in my mind until the end.

Nope, Halo 2 is the best my nostalgic friends. Deeper and more intricate story(Halo CE story was good but too thin), more competitive and balanced multiplayer, super jumps, better maps(Halo CE had a few classic maps, but almost all of Halo 2 maps were classic), and the custom games were truly amazing compared to Halo CE's archaic and bland MP settings.

Yep, Halo 2 was the best. Halo 3 refined what Halo 2 introduced, but Halo 2 had the biggest wow factor.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Halo 1.
Halo 2 is equally good, but 3 is meh
Weapons are unbalanced, and also, people act like recon n00bs, sending "to all freinds, i need help getting recon" type messages (i got a few before).

Not to mention, Halo PC many features halo 3 has, like video recording (fraps/xfire), custom maps and map editor (Halo Custom Edition), freinds list (xfire), and best of all: ONLINE! (which is better than 2, 2PC, and 3.)

I'm sure if Bungie offered rare unlockable armor in Halo 1, you'd have tons of people doing the same thing. You can record any game with Fraps but the difference is that if you miss something, you can't go back and record it. Halo 3 Theater Mode saves every game you play so you won't miss anything like an awesome headshot. Halo PC itself does not come with all that stuff though including the friends list. And Xfire is a separate app that isn't integrated into the game like Xbox Live is. And it doesn't offer as many features as Xbox Live does. In my opinion, Halo 2 PC has better online multiplayer than Halo 1 PC. But Halo 3 still has the best (even better than ODST). In Halo 1, a lot of the games were always laggy because tons of people still use Dial-up connections to play Halo PC. Halo 2 PC is also laggy at times but it does improve upon Halo PC. Halo 3 being an Xbox 360 game isn't as laggy as Halo 1 & 2 for PC since XBox Live requires a certain minimum bandwidth.

The weapons in Halo 1 are definitely not balanced. The shotgun is a medium range weapon. On the PC version, you could shoot a banshee from all the way across the map and still hit the enemy. The pistol is way unbalanced. It only takes 4 shots from a pistol to kill a fully shielded spartan. Even if you have an overshield it still only takes 4 shots to kill them. The Assault Rifle is too accurate at long ranges as well. Also, the physics in Halo 1 are terrible. If you drive a vehicle and bump into another player, it instantly kills them. Even the slightest bump can kill them.

Think about what you just said, all the weapons in Halo 1 are extremely powerful, not one of them is weak. Therefore, they are balanced because they are so strong.

I'm sorry, but anyone that thinks the Pistol was overpowered either didn't play a serious game of Halo 1 multiplayer, or just got out-pistoled often. And by serious game, I mean an actual system link game. Not a split screen game. The pistol killed in three shots to the head, and had bullet lag. The pistol was not a garunteed easy kill at all. It took a ton of skill to use effectivley.

The Shotgun played it's role as the close/somewhat medium range weapon that could easily take down a pistol at a proper range. It was balanced.

The A/R played it's role as the close range weapon, that could easily take down a pistol, and even some other weapons like the shotgun, rocket launcher or PR when used in certian situations. I don't see how you could effectivley use it at long ranges unless you mod your xbox.

Being able to kill people when you run them over is a good thing. I don't know how many times I've tried to run someone over in Halo 2 and 3, hit them at the appropriate speed, but they didn't die. Killing people with vehicles in Halo 1 was consistent. In Halo 2 and 3, it isn't.

Posted by: General Heed
Halo 1's multiplayer was terrible mainly because of the fact that there's no online multiplayer with the exception of Halo PC. Since you're limited to 4-player splitscreen, you're going to have a lot of screen looking. The fact that Halo 3 has tons of custom game options already means it's much better than Halo 1's custom game options. And you can adjust the physics in Halo 3 to make it more like Halo 1 such as speed, gravity, weapon damage, health and more.

Yes, Halo 1 lacks the features that Halo 2 and Halo 3 provide, but it doesn't count for anything because gameplay in Halo 1 was much better than Halo 2's and 3's. I went into a pretty detailed explanation above about why that is.

If you have only played split screen multiplayer, then I would highily recommend you get some friends together, and play Halo 1 on system link.

As for the campaign, Halo 3 definitely has the best. Although ODST's campaign might be better than Halo 3's since it brought back the night missions from Halo 1. But in Halo 3, you have more variety of combat than you did in Halo 1. The story is much more meaningful and dramatic. And air combat is a plus in Halo 3. Halo 1 doesn't really have that much vehicle combat compared to Halo 3. Halo 3 also has a broader range of weapons including support weapons like detachable turrets and missile pods. Hijacking vehicles is a great feature brought in from Halo 2 which Halo 1 does not have.

Gameplay is very inconsistent in Halo 3, and your grandma could outrun master chief in Halo 3. This really makes campaign very slow paced and boring. Actually, it makes any Halo 3 game with the default running speed and default settings/maps slow paced and boring.

Halo 3's campaign was pretty repetitive. Actually, all three Halo's campaigns were pretty repetitive. You go on foot with the basic weapons, then get some new weapons, then get in a vehicle, then get some new weapons, etc.... It's all the same. The reason why Halo 1's was better out of the two was because it was original. I couldn't go back and play through it again, but the game was original, Halo 2 and Halo 3 were not.

Halo 1 lacks everything that makes Halo 2 and Halo 3 awesome.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 lack everything that makes Halo 1 awsome.

Halo 2 and Halo 3 lack everything that made Halo CE stupid. The campaigns in Halo 2 and 3 doesnt have levels where you go through the EXACT same hallways and rooms over and over and over and over. The stories in halo 2 and 3 are deep and more intricate, the muliplayer has more features and is more refined, and the music in Halo 2 and 3 is much, much better than CE. Quit living in the past people I loved Halo CE when i first played it in 2001, but like an intelligent human being, i was smart enough to realize the vast improvements Halo 2 and 3 brought.

Ok, look. Those of you who support Halo 1 are only preaching to the choir. Halo 3 fans just saw this thread and went wtf. Personally, i've learned not to care about little things like monkey men or forge, mainly because i can't afford these things. My fav is halo 1, mainly because it was my first video game and it will always be a classic to me. I had to make do with what i had. I'm not saying i hate Halo 3, i love the series as a whole. Get over yourselves.

btw, you guys don't have to type out essays about which is better, because all you have to say is 'OG needler melee'.

Actually, all that evidence is factual. Halo 1 does have no online multiplayer with the exception of the PC version. But this isn't the Halo PC forums. Halo 1's custom game options don't let you control the physics of the game like in Halo 3. You can't set the gravity, speed, damage, and health like you could in Halo 3.

Custom Games is the only multiplayer mode Halo 1 has. Playing it online still makes it custom games.

No, I'm pretty sure Halo 1 had a custom games option. It wasn't called custom games yet back then but it's basically the same as custom games in Halo 2 and Halo 3 although it lacks the same features.

Custom games by my definition is where you can customize the game options like weapon starts or vehicles on the map. Halo 1 had some of these options though limited. Also, having different gametypes makes it a custom game mode. Firefight in ODST is not custom games since it only has 1 mode. But Halo 1 had different modes so it should be considered custom games.

So making the game more based on luck rather than skill was an improvment?

Nerfing a skill based pistol for a noob friendly BR, then an inconsistent BR was an improvement?

Making the game much more slower paced was an improvment?

Making almost every map enormus was in improvement?

Making the weapon balance garbage was an improvement?

Yes, Halo 2 and Halo 3's improvements lie within extra features like forge, more custom game optinos, online playability and theater. However, Halo 1's gameplay was fast paced and had a large skill gap. Halo 2 and Halo 3's gameplay was much more slower paced due to inconsistent weapons that didnt do much, the addition of equipment and maps the size of Texas.

Extra features are nice, but they don't compensate for mediocre gameplay.

That doesn't make Halo 2's and 3's actual gameplay physics and balance good. Halo 1 had much better gameplay. It was so good, Halo 1 didn't even need all the extra features Halo 2 and 3 have.
