It doesn't really matter though when Halo 3's multiplayer gameplay is inferior to Halo 1's.

Are you kidding? Halo 1's multiplayer? What multiplayer? All I remember is just local multiplayer with only a few custom game options. Halo 2 did better with Xbox Live multiplayer and ultimately, Halo 3 beat all of them with it's new and improved matchmaking system as well as tons of custom game options, the map editor Forge, and Theater Mode. Halo 1's multiplayer gameplay options don't even have half of what Halo 3 offers.
then you have never played the game if you think that generalkidd

Actually, all that evidence is factual. Halo 1 does have no online multiplayer with the exception of the PC version. But this isn't the Halo PC forums. Halo 1's custom game options don't let you control the physics of the game like in Halo 3. You can't set the gravity, speed, damage, and health like you could in Halo 3.

That doesn't make Halo 2's and 3's actual gameplay physics and balance good. Halo 1 had much better gameplay. It was so good, Halo 1 didn't even need all the extra features Halo 2 and 3 have.

Ahh but those extra features are what gave Halo 3 the highest ratings out of every halo game so far including ODST which lacked a few features. And Halo 1 is only fun when you play it with tons of other people which would involve system linking. I doubt you can get 16 people to bring bring 3 more xbox's and 3 more TV's to your house everyday and play Halo 1. Without more people, the game gets boring very fast if you play it by yourself. How many times can you really play the campaign over and over again by yourself? Even on co-op it still gets repetitive after awhile like all halo games.

Halo 2 and 3 can have all the extra features and good ratings in the world. It still wont change the fact that Halo 1's gameplay was much more balanced and fast paced than Halo 2 and 3's.

If I have to explain that one more time, I'm going to puke my balls out of my mouth

This is the average H2 Fanboy.

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Highest Ratings? Metacritic doesnt think so:
Halo 1: 97
Halo 2: 95
Halo 3: 94
ODST: 84
Do the math next time.

And also, Kai and XBC let you play online halo 1. Or just get it on pc.

Unfortunately, the PC version was rated 83% by Metacitric vs the 97% on the Xbox. That indicates the Xbox version of Halo 1 is better than the PC version. But I'm not going to get into that right now. I've never used XBC or Kai before, but from what I've heard from other posts, those services seem to be quite laggy compared to xbox live. Again, I never used them before so I can only say what i've already read from other people in these forums.

To some critics and reviewers, Halo 1 had higher ratings. But to other critics and reviewers, Halo 3 had higher ratings. It all depends on the people reviewing the games. For example, Game Informer and Famitsu rated Halo 3 higher. So it all depends on opinions and the people reviewing the games.

Why would you base your arguemnts on critic's reviews if not all of them come to an agreement?

Not all of them are the same ratings, but they are pretty close to each other. It's not like we have huge fluctuations in the ratings where 1 critic gave the game a high rating while another gave the game a low rating. So the ratings are fairly consistent.

Yes... Metacritic is a website that collates reviews of music albums, games, movies, TV shows and DVDs. Or in this case Halo 1 and Halo 3.

  • 10.04.2009 5:50 PM PDT

So even though the the newer games have more content. The game itself has been getting lower reviews each time.

Not necessarily. Like I said, it depends on the reviewer. Some gave it higher ratings. Others gave it lower ratings.

In the case of ODST, it got lower ratings overall. But at least ODST still was rated higher than Halo Wars.

Walking tank... what is this, MGS?

yes because it was epic, original, and it had the kick-ass magnum that is coming back in ODST

I couldnt agree more

Agreed.

A critic's review of a game is his/her opinion. It is no more valuable than mine or yours. A critic's review is just another fan's opinion

That's true but it seems most critics give the same game similar ratings. It's not like we have 1 critic giving a game an A while another critic gives a game an F.

Exactly, so because there are different critics out there, and they all don't share the same opinion, the critic's review don't necessarily stay consistent with eachother.

Not that it matters, because as I said earlier and you agreed, a critic's review is nothing more than another fan's opinion. It is no more valid than your opinion or mine.

I couldn't agree more, but like I said, critics do usually reflect the opinions of the majority. And also, most critics and their reviews are usually consistent with one another. There usually aren't any huge fluctuations in their reviews. In the case of the Halo games, there aren't any fluctuations at all.

1. Every Halo game had a great story except for Halo Wars.

2. Magnum is back in ODST and is a lot more accurate plus shoots faster and I believe it has a higher zoom.

3. ODST has the most challenging campaign. Especially on Legendary since you are no longer a Spartan Super Soldier like in the previous Halo games.

4. But it doesn't have online multiplayer except for the PC version.

5. What do you mean by intro? The first level? Well, the first level kind of didn't give you any background. It just kind of dropped you right into the middle of a battle. In fact, the purpose of Halo Wars and Halo Reach will be to complete the intro for Halo 1. On the other hand, I liked the Halo 2 intro with the ceremonies. The ODST intro is amazing because you're actually in the HEV Pods as an ODST dropping from Orbit. Sure all the Halo games had some scene where you drop from orbit, but ODST is the first where you witness it in 1st person.

6. Yeah, the ending wasn't that bad. But Halo 3 had a more dramatic and emotional ending. As for ODST, well, it's ending was different and somewhat a rip-off from a few movies. And to no surprise, ODST had another long driving mission. Halo 1 & Halo 3 had pretty fun driving missions (warthog runs), but ODST's warthog run was just annoying especially because you had to protect Dare and the Engineer.

7. Actually, Halo 1 did change FPS's, but not to the extent of an even older game. Some people might say Counter Strike revolutionized FPS games. But I say an even older classic game changed FPS's forever. That game is: Goldeneye 64 on the Nintendo 64. Not only did it have features that wouldn't be seen again for many years until Halo 1, but it's multiplayer despite being only local was much more replayable than any Halo game thus far in my opinion. I'd like to see a remake of it on the 360. Goldeneye, back then, already had tons of weapons and maps like Halo. You also had the ability to dual-wield certain weapons like in Halo 2. There was also a vehicle level where you got to drive a tank. Vehicle combat that was good would not be seen again until Halo 1.

So in my opinion, the most revolutionary First-Person Shooter game would be Goldeneye 64. All subsequent FPS games just took a lot of their ideas from Goldeneye. But ODST is a lot more creative because of it's different gameplay style which you don't normally see in a FPS.

i remember having it for original xbox when i was younger and never played it that much. it was my first FPS i ever ownd. it got me hooked.

Fine, give me an example of the ratings for the Halo games (besides Halo Wars and the PC versions) that show a fluctuation of more than 10% between ratings.
